Bucs bring back Jevan Snead

Former Ole Miss quarterback Jevan Snead was labeled by some draft “experts” a likely Top 10 draft pick a year ago, then wasn’t drafted at all after leaving college early, and ultimately signed by the Buccaneers, only to get cut before training camp.

But Snead is back in Tampa Bay -- at least for now.

With starting quarterback Josh Freeman suffering a thumb injury, the Bucs wanted a young quarterback who knew their offense, and so they re-signed Snead today.

Freeman is out for the rest of the preseason, and Snead will back up Josh Johnson and Rudy Carpenter in Freeman’s absence.

Freeman is expected back in time for Week One, and Snead will probably be gone by then. But today’s signing is one more chance for a quarterback whose fortunes have fallen dramatically over the last year.
