Darren Sharper looking unlikely to make early season impact

It was almost three weeks ago when we first passed along word that Saints safety Darren Sharper may not even be a starter when he returns to the field.

In the meantime, Sharper hasn’t even returned to the field.  As Mike Triplette of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, there a growing possibility Sharper could be placed on the PUP list to start the year, which would knock him out for the first six games of the season.

This isn’t devastating news for the Saints.  They are well situated to replace Sharper with 2009 first round pick Malcolm Jenkins and there’s no need to rush Sharper back from serious knee surgery.

“I like my chances with him,” defensive coordinator Gregg Williams said when asked if he’s worried about the Vikings picking on Jenkins.

Still, it’s hard to forget the team and Sharper promising in the Spring that Sharper would be ready to roll to open training camp.  They either lied than or he’s taking longer to recover from microfracture surgery than expected.

    Sharper blows

    Hurry up Darren!

Sharper is old, he doesn’t heal as fast as the younger guys do anymore. All that trash talking with Stankho will amount to nothing when he’s riding the pine in street clothes.
Malcolm Jenkins will take his lumps but homeboy has skills.
Favre has bigger problems than worrying about either of these guys though. He first needs to have his line actually block pass rushers or at least slow them down….and that runningback with the infant size hands needs some stick’um.

May the Wrath of Favre strike you down.

Saints have great depth…no big deal. Plus, they’re well-coached…unlike that joke of a franchise in Minnesota.

  6. cusoman says: Aug 24, 2010 7:34 PM

Boy, all that trash talking to rile up your fan base and he’s likely not even going to be there. I hear they make great omelets in N.O. because there’s no short supply of egg on people’s faces.

It’s pathetic that he actually gets credited in the record books for most return yards in a single season when all of his INTs came off of rookies/terrible QBs, and his run backs consisted of basically running in a straight line to the end zone. Ed Reed is the greatest safety of all time, and the REAL record is still his.

3rd and 1? lets do a double-triple-reverse to Reggie Bush and let him lose 17 yards. Yay we made sportscenter!

Hey Zach, you don’t win a Super bowl with bad coaching…..Take a look at the Vikings staff for an example…or the Cowboys for that matter.

So much for X marking the spot, Darren. Maybe your teammates will have your back and mark the spot on Favre for you. Unfortunately for Shiancoe and the Vikings, they wont be able to mark it on you(Sharper) unless you meet in the playoffs.

So…Sean Payton’s not a good coach? Is that what you’re claiming? If so, you need to have your NFL-watching privileges revoked.

Yeah, the defending champs have egg on their faces…right.
What do the Vikings have on their faces besides Brett Favre’s man juice?

So Matt Ryan and Tom Brady are terrible QBs?

  16. mikemcsaint says: Aug 24, 2010 8:19 PM

Zach – in case you haven’t noticed, Payton coached them to a Superbowl victory.
ccoolihan14 – He picked of Brady, numbnutz, and they are all NFL qb’s
robert ethen – at this point it looks like the wrath of Favre is going to strike down the Vikings

  17. Hailskinzz says: Aug 24, 2010 8:31 PM

Haha he was talkin all that smack and word on the street was he might not even start this year

  18. Saints#12 says: Aug 24, 2010 8:32 PM

Favre cant pick on Jenkins, when he’s laying on his old Ass..he will cost the vikings this year.he could;nt touch his ass with both hands

  19. Pervy *Harvin says: Aug 24, 2010 8:34 PM

    mikemcsaint-where is my reponse?? PUSSY!!!

  20. mikemcsaint says: Aug 24, 2010 8:44 PM

Pervy* Harvin, the only PUSSY around here is your moms. That’s a great video but we still beat your team and are the champs. So don’t go away mad, just go away.

  21. PurplePeopleBeaters says: Aug 24, 2010 8:53 PM

I’m looking for a video of the Vikings winning the Super Bowl. Anyone know where I can find it?

  22. Pervy *Harvin says: Aug 24, 2010 8:59 PM

oohhheww big mcsaint talkin’trash to the Pervmeister…don’t worry doucher…after you go 8-8 the world will know that last year was a fluke aided by black Cajun magic and fairies…

  23. goombar2 says: Aug 24, 2010 9:14 PM

Wow, this changes my prediction… I had NO by 52 points, now I’m sorry to say it’s only by 35… Complete embarrassment for the viking still, but at this point does anything embarrass that franchise?
50 years of toilet bowl football, and I ask again, why would this season be any different?

  24. mikemcsaint says: Aug 24, 2010 10:41 PM

Pervy talking in the 3rd person. Clever. Not quite sure what a “doucher” is. Must be some term your Senator thought of while on crack. But even if last year was the only SB we ever win, it’ll be more than your queens. Can I ask, who will be the next idiot you guys elect? Franken, Ventura, Wellstone, etc…..

  25. efil4zaggin says: Aug 24, 2010 11:16 PM

Maybe Sean P will let Sharper have some of the Vicodin he pilfered from the team drug stash. Better yet, that subterranean dirtbowl of a city is due for another bath this fall. That would make The prancing pretty boy even more irrelevant

  26. SSgtLMJ says: Aug 24, 2010 11:34 PM

Purpley Purvey…I’ve been watching you tube videos of Favre’s second interception vs the Saints…I’m psyched how well documented it is. What’d you think of Tracy’s jared allen impression? Pretty cool huh…just thought you’d want to relive it! Man that was great! Whew! TWO DAT FOOL!!

  27. clintcooper says: Aug 24, 2010 11:36 PM

All the Sharper haters are truly hilarious. He broke the record last season for total interception yardage. And this was after all the same anti-Sharper trash talk we’ve come to expect from the HATERS.
All I have to say is YAWN.

sounds like someone has sand in their verginer. I watched the first 3 seconds of that video and skipped ahead.
Pretty sad video skillz gotta say. The best you can do is take some pics you found on the internet and put simplistic titles that a child could do? Is that really the extent of your abilities? Or is that not your video and you’re actually showing off someone else’s sad effort?
    Questions:
why do you even ponder passing?
how many players are allowed in an offensive huddle?
why does your runningback have infant hands?
BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY: how many superbowl victories do the vikings have? better yet, when was the last time the vikings even went to the superbowl?
Lombardi trophy count: New Orleans =1 Minnesota=O
I mean you got beat by the saints! This is the Saints man!!! and they beat the vikings! I mean this is the vikings we’re talking about man!!! and they got beat by the historically sad saints! How embarrassing! just like your life.

The Vikings must have the most tasteless fanbase in the NFL. You guys are ridiculous. Keep on crying trolls. We’ll just keep winning, with or without Sharper.
