Saints cut Troy Evans

The New Orleans Saints have dumped several players on Tuesday.  Most notably, they have severed ties with linebacker Troy Evans, the team’s special-teams captain in 2008 and 2009.

Evans, an eight-year veteran, appeared in every game last season, starting twice.  They were the first two starts of his career.

“Decisions like these are never easy to make,” G.M. Mickey Loomis said in a team-issued released.  “Troy Evans was an instrumental part of the Saints’ Super Bowl XLIV Championship in 2009 and we are truly thankful for his hard work and dedication. We know that the fans of our team will be grateful for Troy’s contributions and the way he contributed to our success both on and off the football field. “

“It’s always difficult when you have to make decisions such as releasing players that have contributed as much to the Saints as Troy has,” coach Sean Payton said. “Troy was our special-teams captain the past two seasons and provided us with tremendous depth at the outside linebacker position the past three seasons.”

Also released were receiver Mark Bradley, receiver Rod Harper, guard Tim Duckworth, and cornerback Danny Gorrer.

I guess that’s nicer than saying, “Hit the bricks, scrub.”

Ted Thompson, you’re light on outside linebackers and your special teams suck. In the immortal words of George Steinbrenner, via Seinfeld, “Hire this man!”

If they really wanted to do him a favor they would have released him earlier right? Allowed him a better chance to catch on

The seahawks will sign at least two of them. And they’ll have a chance to compete for starting jobs.

Ask the Steelers if it’s a good idea to cut your special teams captain after winning a Super Bowl.

So, did they “dump” him, or “sever ties”?
Or did they sever the ties holding him in the wheelbarrow while it was tilted over the incinerator?

He lasted longer than his talent warranted. Hopefully, you invested some and saved some for that rainy day. Be glad you can still walk and sign your name. Now you can taste the real world. Count your blessings sir, and move on.

Agreed, Tim Duckworth and Troy would both be a good fit on the Seahawks.
They should get to Seattle ASAP.

Sad to see Troy Evans go… and yet one must be happy for him because how many NFL players end up with Super Bowl Rings???

Our coverage units were ranks 28th in the league last year, and getting torched this preseason. Time for a change…

I’m sure he’llget a job somewhere. ST guys that have captain material usually sign elsewhere quickly. The Saints really like b-ball players first Graham and then Duckworth.

    @OLDCRACKER
This guy’s parents won a $10 million lottery about 10-15 years ago, this guy will never hit the real world.
