What do Benson, Adams, and Russell have to do with the drafts of GB and Minny? You’re ripping on Minny’s draft, yet they have drafted more hits than misses, while Thompson keeps on misfiring.
From 2005-2009, GB had over 50 draft picks. 3 of those picks have made a Pro Bowl, and Matthews only got there by injury replacement. In that same period, Minny had 24 picks, with the same amount of Pro Bowlers. And each team has added a few other solid contributors. The difference being Minny has brought in multiple Pro Bowlers using FA and trades, while GB has done nothing.
In the past 4 years, Minny has steadily improved their overall performance. GB has been incredibly inconsistent.

I don’t scoff at it, the way Minesotta assembles its team its completely fine. Thats what they need to do put a team out and hope will be a success.
You guys scoff at building from within and drafting and creating depth. I think the Packers are far better at that then Minnesota is. Thats the point I am trying to push across.
Top ten picks should be elite talent, Hawk wasn’t, but if you want to know some worse top five picks of last five years, Cedric Benson,CHI Adams in TB (rip) and Jamarcus Russel wasn’t that great of a top five pick.
Raji was the best DT in his class in my opinion and will pan out though. He will need a little time on it, but will be fine.
Packers build depth i.e. Bigby has been injured alot last season they draft a safety. They knew Jolly probably wasn’t going to be around they draft DL.
Minnesota is probably trying to use this tactic for when Fumbles (All Day) gets hurt or puts the ball on the carpet too much Gerhart can come in and be a solution.

Probably a lot more than Reynolds will for GB. Rice figures on starting 8 games, more with the playoffs. Harvin will start most games, may miss one or 2, just like last year. But are you really suggesting Minny is at fault for not foreseeing that Rice would injure his hip? Really? Well then why didn’t GB see that Harrel, a top 20 pick, would get hurt any time he stepped on a football field. What has he played, about 10 downs his entire career?
But why are you so obsessed with only using the draft, and scoff at trades and free agents. Last I checked, Minny has had great success using those 2 avenues. Guys like Allen, Favre, Hutch. It just makes sense to use all available avenues. Why would you fault the Vikes for trading draft picks for a guy like Jared Allen? Should they have kept them, and drafted guys like Harrel, Brian Brohm, Jordy Nelson, and AJ Hawk?
As you’ve said, you expect great production from top 10 picks. So you write off the success of Minny’s top 10 pick Pro Bowlers. Yet all of GB’s recent top 10 picks have been failures, but that’s OK in your eyes. How does this even begin to be rational?
AS for GB’s number 1 rush defense, it’s not even close to as good as the numbers suggest. I mean, Beanie Wells and the 28th ranked Cardinals rushing attack put up over 150 on them in the last game they played that counted. Get used to seeing that without Jolly, another GB draft success story.

wow. understatement. he can’t shed blocks, he can’t cover over the middle, he’s pretty much invisible most games, i don’t think he’ll even be starting for you guys – how many worse top 5 picks have there been in the last 5 years? harrell is a bust cuz he hasn’t even been playing but hawk as a top 5 pick was just as abad of a pick and raji so far is a disappointment, raji and hawk were top 10 picks and hawk was top 5.
the vikes picks under spielman and studwell have been so much better, ad, harvin and rice were all pro bowlers last year, cook looks awesome, greenway

I am sorry that I don’t find it completley astonishing that top ten make the pro bowl. While Packers have not had any of the 3 of the last top ten picks make a pro bowl yet Reynolds and Hawk obviously won’t make it, but while MOST of the probowlers listed for Minnesota were top 10 choices the Packers have players like
Nick Collins, Donald Driver, Aaron Kampman. that made MULTIPLE pro bowls that were drafted after the first round. THANKS TO COACHING AND DEVOLPMENT WITH IN!!!!
The Vikings can take the best HB in college the top LT they should be good when they get drafted that high. Minnesota can only find talent when it bites them in the ass.
Raji will continue to help anchor what was the number 1 rush defense, but if thats what you consider getting “walked all over” I really hate to hear what you think of your phenomal brick wall made of Starcaps.

It’s funny how you disregard the 3 Pro Bowl Vikings because they were top 10 picks. How many recent GB top 10 picks have even sniffed a Pro Bowl? Here’s their last 3, did any of these studs make the Pro Bowl?
Jamal Reynolds? AJ Hawk? BJ Raji?
As for Raji, is being the “anchor” of a bad defense who gets walked all over really considered being successful?

Yeah they are in the top ten unfortunetly AJ Hawk isn’t as great as he looked in college, but Raji will be the anchor the D and will prove that he was worthy of top ten picks.
All but ONE of the Vikings FIRST round picks has been in the top 20 since 2002 you guys are too foolish to read whats in front of you. Maybe you guys should try looking elsewhere if you don’t believe me, before you spaz out.
Yes the 3 Pro Bowlers I listed, as I also stated where all in the top 10 when selected. Where you hope that you would get pro bowl talent.
I hope no more Viking fans read this so I don’t have to repost again for them.

Hey shaggy, when were AJ Hawk and BJ Raji drafted? What’s that, top 10. Weird. And just curious, but who did the Vikings draft in the top 20 in 2008 and 2009? There’s 2 drafts with no picks in the top 20, but according to you, there’s been only one.
And it’s funny how in the same paragraph, you list 3 Pro Bowlers drafted by the Vikes, yet you proceed to say the Vikes don’t know how to draft. Do you realize how badly you’re contradicting yourself? You’re an idiot.

Yes you guys have hit on first round ESPECIALLY when your drafting in the top 20 picks which has been all but one of the first round picks since 2002. AP Kevin Williams and Bryant McKinnie are ALL TOP TEN PICKS. They should be able to make pro bowls as they were some of the top prospects at thier position. I don’t judge the Vikings for building with in just stating a fact. I mean some teams like the Colts, and Pats can build through drafting and good coachig. Some teams have to use FA. Why do you think the Vikings can afford to give up so many draft picks when trading for a Jared Allen, cuz they don’t know how to use draft picks anyway. They can’t even turn the cards in on time on draft day thats how foolish they are when it comes to it.

So it’s just luck that Minny has drafted Greenway, AD, and Harvin in in the first round? I can buy being lucky with one good pick, but when it’s a trend like it is with the Vikes, it has more to do with good talent evaluation skills.
Kind of like that Thompson guy on the other side of the river, with draft bust after bust. He does manage to get lucky and sprinkle in some decent players, but the majority are misses.

Good teams, and good QB’s, find a way to overcome “bad breaks” (total excuse for losers by the way). And 4 of those breaks you speak of that went against them were game icing picks by the Golden Child.

i for one can’t wait for the season to start so we can actually talk about, you know, football. listen, a fan of any team can sit here in late August and make bold predictions about the impending implosion of their rivals, and of course their own championship-in-progress. I can think up a million reasons why I think the Packers will be good this year and about 2 million why I think the Vikings will be bad this year — none of those reasons are worth a $hit once the ball’s kicked off and people start hitting each other. Everyone needs to calm the hell down. It’s fun to argue, and everyone is entertained to a certain degree by this act…but don’t forget our petty arguments will have no bearing on the reality of this football season.
when it comes down to the way the coach addresses the fans and media, let’s get something straight. MM and TT speak in cliches and absolutes: pad level, improve from within, “packer people,” character, football culture, “graded out as a plus,” blah blah blah — not because they believe in them, or because they desperately want their fans to believe in them, but because they feel it’s in the best interest of the team to say as little as possible, period. Truth be told I think this is how MOST head coaches and GM’s approach the media. Their job requires them to address the media on set occasions, usually for a set period of time — to them this is a necessary evil. Don’t expect them to give a smidgeon more than the bare minimum. I think Rex Ryan is the exception here

Viking fans find so much humor form the improve from the inside, because they have never seen it done. Who is the last GREAT QB they actually drafted? The team leader in sacks was in KC a couple of seasons ago, and the all-world offensive linemen had to get poison pilled into a Vikings uni. While the Packers projected starting offesne has atleast 9 starters which they had originally drafted while the defense has 7.

Yes, Woodson was defensive player of the year. Remember when Shaun Alexander won the MVP? Remember how the wheels fell of the very next year. Players get old, it happens. And when it does, their production tends to nose dive.
As for Favre’s age, a QB’s speed and agility isn’t nearly as important as, say, a cornerback. Favre played tremendously at age 40 last year, no reason to believe he can’t do it again.

Yeah I watch football, Jolly may have started, but Pickett is back and healthy. So that isn’t really a concern for me, and as for “everyone getting older over 30,” your talking about the DEFENSIVE PLAYER of the year, and the all time leading reciever as a so most GB fans aren’t worried about that either. I am worried about Al Harris recovering from his injury but as far as teams that ran right at the trio of LBs last season, because without Kampman FOR HALF THE SEASON, they still a top run stopping defense.
If age is a concern for you on the Packers squad what do you think is going to happen when a team plays a QB thats 40? So old he can’t play more than 4 plays, in his TRIUMPHANT return. How much has he lost?
