No Revis-Jets meeting last night

The two reporters who have claimed that the Jets and cornerback Darrelle Revis are closing in on a new deal, Tim Cowlishaw of the Dallas Morning News and Dan Graziano of FanHouse.com, reported on Tuesday that the two sides would be meeting on Tuesday night.

We’ve explained during a couple of radio spots — in unequivocal fashion — that no meeting occurred last night.  And we stand by that.  The Jets and the Revis camp did not meet last night, contrary to the reports that a meeting would occur.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News also reports that the Jets and Revis did not meet last night.

In the defense of the folks who reported that a meeting would occur on Tuesday night, they didn’t say which Tuesday.

We’re now waiting for our pal Mort (who probably doesn’t feel the same way about us) to report that, while he’s not reporting there was no meeting, the Jets claim there was no meeting.

No deal has been reached and no meeting will happen until Revis finishes reading (or having someone read to him) Mangold’s contract.

The only thing I liked about this “conflicting reports” story is that one of you media types was going to look foolish. T. Cowlishaw and Fanhouse.com, enjoy eating your crow

It’s the 21st century, you can meet via video conference.

  4. hnirobert says: Aug 25, 2010 10:15 AM

    Maybe they met on skype?

I actually like Cowlishaw but it seems he missed on this one.

  6. Rock48nj says: Aug 25, 2010 10:20 AM

Can we get away from blaming the Jets for some of the hoopla at this point? In essence this is the third PFT post saying the same thing, I can’t believe you did not shoe horn another self pat on the back on the Mangold story here (which you did not break until after Colishaw’s tweet anyway). You will be looking to get a rib removed if you break another piece of news.
Despite all the original conspiracy theories on the “media blackout” related to this contract negotiation (remember those you tried to stick to the wall?), it seems like both sides are in fact staying mum on things.

Cowlishaw was going to be right! Revis camp changed the plans probably…

  8. GNYJ85 says: Aug 25, 2010 10:28 AM

I don’t think a respected reporter like tim cowlishaw would have the nutz to break something like this if his source wasn’t 99.99% sure they’re close to finalizing a deal.
On a side note: Mangold, D’Brick, Revis, Terminator, Sanchez, Greene.. Not a bad young core!! We’re Back!

  9. Charlie Dungy says: Aug 25, 2010 10:29 AM

What if the “source” is telling some guys (Fanhouse) one thing and say you guys another?
    Just something to ponder about.

  10. Philly Cheese says: Aug 25, 2010 10:33 AM

Florio, get out of off-season mode and just stop with the journalistic masturbation. There are some many “real” things happening right now that are worthy of a post yet you continue to write these dumbass articles based on nothing more than two hacks like you who just want to keep their name in the news as a desperate attempt to remain relevant. Grow a sack and write something non-fictional.

Why do you take this stuff so personal Florio? People don’t come here because you get the first scoop. They come here because you condense news/rumors from multiple places onto one site. Who cares if your source is better than Cowlishaw’s source?

  12. TheSleepness says: Aug 25, 2010 10:45 AM

lol how did cowlishaw miss? Revis will be signed by saturday, trust me.

You should only stand by something unequivocally if you were there hanging out with Revis and his agent and have first hand information (with your own eyes) that they didn’t meet the jets.
Otherwise you’re just blowing smoke. Someone you trust may have told you the meeting didn’t happen, but unless you were there, you really are just taking someone’s word for it.

The NY Drama Queens are waiting to break the news in front of the sub-intelligence audience watching Hard Knocks. They’ve brought football to a new level – the basement.

  16. chrisritch says: Aug 25, 2010 11:24 AM

Geez …just think Florio will post 32 more articles on this same item including 3 more after his absolutely his last post on this non news item.

  17. Rhapsody says: Aug 25, 2010 11:26 AM

Florio is of such obvious low intelligence that it is embarrassing. He is not really a journalist – just a blogger – but he seems personally offended that someone else has better sources than he has. So naturally he has to accuse them that they are LYING.

  18. CityByTheLake19 says: Aug 25, 2010 11:39 AM

This shouldnt even need a discussion. If there was a rookie cap we wouldnt have to worry about money and everyone would play to full potential for more money. Kyle Wilson drafted by the Jets gets more money than Revis w.o. even playing a professional regular season game. Such a joke when the guy is the best cover corner in the game. Hands down!

  19. CJ SPILLER says: Aug 25, 2010 11:42 AM

It’s Day 24 of the Darrelle Revis holdout from the New York Jets, and the light at the end of the tunnel appears to be getting brighter.
Bob Pompeani of KDKA in Pittsburgh tweeted early Wednesday morning that “getting closer to accepting a record deal from Jets.”
It could be a 10-year, $150 million dollar deal, with $65 million guaranteed

If this deal goes down, it will come back to haunt the Jets. Revis is way overrated. He will get his ass burnt this year. Dude has one great year and he wants this money? Nnamdi Asomugha of the Raiders is heads and tails above Revis!! Asomugha is a better all around DB. What a waste of money the Jets are going to spend on this idiot!!!

If you’re going to be a hater, at least spew something of substance and make yourself look good. Drama Queens? sub-intelligence (??) audience? Good job of name calling, if you’re on a high school level.
The media is keeping this story on life support, not the Jets organization. Not happy about that, Miss Pats fan Lisa? Stop reading the stories! See that?? Problem solved!!

It is hard to fault anyone for hating the Jets the way they are jammed down everyone’s throat.

No no, you’re reporting that other people stand by their report that no meeting took place last night.
It’s not like you were waiting outside his house watching him Flo. Let’s be real here.

I cannot believe that with 11 guys on a defense, you would spend that much money on one guy. Where is the sense in that? It isn’t as if the guy is a QB, who touches the football on every offensive play and pretty much determines if you win or lose…
Revis cannot be all over the field – and let’s say for sake of argument, he’s ‘the best’ in the league and would shut down whichever WR he lines up against.
Is that the only player that the QB would throw to? If you tie up so much money in one guy and as a result you have to go bargain basement on others…teams will just find the weak link and go that way; be it the run, another WR, the TE.
You have to be strong all over and when you steal from Peter to pay Paul…

  24. SoFlor Steeler says: Aug 25, 2010 12:30 PM

Nnamdi Asomugha will be cut by the Raiders after this season – they will not continue to pay him this kind of money….
5 years and 50-60 million is the right range for Revis – they can pretty that up and make it look bigger by calling it a 10 year deal and putting some absurd back end numbers on it…
