Steve Sabol: Revis won't appear on Hard Knocks tonight

The conflicting reports regarding a possible deal between the Jets and cornerback Darrelle Revis has sparked considerable speculation regarding the potential connection between a new Revis deal and HBO’s Hard Knocks.  With Tim Cowlishaw of the Dallas Morning News reporting that a new deal will come “probably Wednesday” and a new episode of Hard Knocks coming “definitely Wednesday,” one possibility for the on-the-record and off-the-record denials by the principals of any progress was/is the unveiling of the new deal during tonight’s show, possibly with a brief live feed.

Bolstering this speculation was a Tuesday “report” from Cowlishaw that Revis taped a TV interview on Monday, which will air on Wednesday.  Though Cowlishaw also said he doesn’t think the interview is part of the Hard Knocks show, the suggestion that Revis talked to cameras only enhanced the speculation of a Wednesday night surprise.

And so the folks at ESPN 1050 in New York tracked down Steve Sabol of NFL Films for an on-air interview.  Sabol told Jody McDonald and Brandon Tierney of ESPN 1050 that Revis will not appear on camera on the newest episode of Hard Knocks.

Whether he’ll be appearing before news cameras to discuss a new contract before the end of the week remains to be seen.

… so… no reason to watch then.
Thanks for killing that teaser Steve Sabol.

Why is mike florio going so hard at Tim Cowlishaw? Holier-than-thou attitude for sure.
You peddle rumors for the NFL. Is Terry Bradshaw still dead?

Perhaps Favre will break wind and affect Chilly’s delicate sense of smell.
That should bring the 80% of stories being Revis and Favre back into a 50/50 balance between them.

Thanks for the continuing pointless updates PFT!

I think Florio is more amazed by the conflicting reports than anyone else.

Are you serious? Hard Knocks in entertaining even if you’re a jets hater. I’ve watched every season so far and will watch it again next year.

Didn’t realize how cocky Rex was before the show aired…

I hope he dosent join the jets. I want him to hold out the whole year then comes back next year and sucks… He is not even that good He will never be as good as Aso. Aso plays man to man and shuts down the half a football field. Revis plays zone if SO did that he would have 100 ints a year

he said he won’t be on camera…didn’t say he won’t be on phone…

I am aware that posting a comment only increases the likelihood that you will post still more of these stories, but I have to say you really are beating this one into the ground. We understand your position and thoughts and we understand Cowlishaw’s position and thoughts. And tomorrow if he IS signed, you’ll pretend this never happened and if he’s not, Cowlishaw will say “unforeseen circumstances” derailed the deal. We get it. Please move on. Go throw the football around with your kid or take the wife out. You need a break from this story and so do we.

Wasn’t Revis a first round pick? I would understand this contract/money issue had he been a later pick not making first round money. This man is selfish in my opinion.

    Revis > Asomugha

Maybe he’ll skype or use the iphone… Hey, will the players get the day off?
Maybe the J E T S jets jets jets should send Allen, Hutch, and Longwell to get him? That could be a whole new reality show! NBC will air anything!
In future episodes they could try to get Michael Jordan back, Bo Jackson, Joe Montana (SF could use him!) and each year the finally could be Favre!
Wouldn’t it be a kicker if those three showed up and tried to dump Favre on the Jets again because they got sick of his crap after another failed season where he throws an int? And the Jets could use a QB! Ratings GOLD MINE!

So Calishaw was wrong about them having a meeting, but you are trusting him on this? Seems like maybe he’s not as much in the know as you hope.

Zone? Have you ever watched a Jets game besides when they played Oakland? You’re a moron.

I thought hard knocks was supposed to be about the team’s training camp/preseason stuff…Revis would have to show up to “work” and he is too much of an arrogant POS to actually do that. I hope they let his ass sit out the whole year. Keep the fines rollin’ and he will find himself in exactly the same place next year.

  17. CJ SPILLER says: Aug 25, 2010 5:18 PM

Who gives a shit………..I wish Rex Ryan wasn’t on there either……..I’m sick of throwing up my dinner on my carpet watching him in HD wearing that tight shirt, with his fat titties and stomach bouncing up and down.

  18. ShootahCowboy says: Aug 25, 2010 5:21 PM

    Revis = Strahan & Favre?
Maybe Revis just doesn’t want to do the training camp thing…

  19. Wordsworth says: Aug 25, 2010 5:33 PM

Florio isn’t “going after Cowlishaw”. Cowlishaw has placed himself front and center of this clusterf**k and has earned any commentary for the negative or the positive.
So much for the Jets remaining tight-lipped about the proceedings with Revis, eh? This has turned into a huge joke. Hard Knocks shouldn’t want anything to do with this.

  20. TheSleepness says: Aug 25, 2010 6:00 PM

    @RaiderJackass
You’re that dumb huh? The Jets don’t even impliment a zone coverage scheme.

  21. g_sny09 says: Aug 25, 2010 6:06 PM

why do most of u even visit this site?! all u end up doing is bashing or leaving negative posts. good job (most of the time), Florio.

In other news .. A box of donuts will disappear on hard knocks tonight

  23. Fins Suck says: Aug 25, 2010 8:32 PM

well now we all know why you are a raiders fan steve …. you are obviously a moron so you root for a stupid team. The whole reason Revis is holding out is because your owner is so stupid and gave ASO that much money even though he clearly doesn’t deserve it.
