The reason Dixon WILL NOT be the starter Week 1 is because hes too dumb to spell his own name. The coaching staff doesn’t trust him. I like his ability as hes a good enough athlete to stay in the league for awhile, BUT he is not ready to lead the first team offense on a consistent basis. Byron is no Peyton Manning, but hes a vet who still has a strong arm, knows the system, and how to game plan opposing defenses. Kordell 2.0 looks right, and then takes off. Anyone want to bet who the starter is Week 1? Ill save you some $ as its a fact Byron is starting.
This is why coaches HATE dealing with pencil neck dorks like Florio — aka the media. They speculate about NOTHING just to benefit their own name. “If Ben gets drunk again in 3 years and if Dixon becomes the next Michael Vick then the Steelers ownership sells the team and wants to move it to LA because a part owner is from there and hes black so he wants Dixon to start…then they will have a QB controversy!” Shut the hell up. You think management wastes their time with that bull crap Florio? Would you put a guy that CANT READ in charge of your website for 4 weeks? Actually, dont answer that as Rosenthal makes more errors than Chuck Knoblauch did for the Yankees in 2000.

Deb you said it perfectly. People do not seem to understand the difference between exciting and good. To add one point The unpredictability of the running QB is mitigated when teams actually game plan to stop it. When teams see film on Dixon and see that he is looking at one receiver and either throwing or taking off running. They will use less deep help, use a spy to stop the run and blitz more.

Your talents are wasted here. You should be writing about grassy knolls and Area 51.
Roethlisberger has been an ass to a lot of reporters and probably to you. But you’re not one of these dimwitted bozos. You’re a big boy w/a law degree and know as well as I do that
the guy had a motorcycle accident in which the other driver was at fault. And a couple of groupies made conflicting false allegations not supported by physical evidence or independent eye witnesses. Nothing warrants comparisons to Michael Vick or suggestions that he’ll be unavailable in 2011.
As for Dixon, he’s never demonstrated franchise potential. Roethlisberger came off the bench his rookie season without any special prep and led the team to the conference championship. Dixon is still struggling to learn the playbook. It ALWAYS seems impressive when a scrambling QB scrambles because it’s exciting and unpredictable. But his JOB is to make multiple reads and find open receivers, not to glance in one direction, then panic and run when receivers are available. If that’s what he’s doing against third-string defenses, what will he do against first string defenses? Finally, I guess we’re going to find out.
I’m all for using Dixon and Leftwich in tandem to keep defenses off balance until Ben returns. But to suggest that he’s capable of leading the team or challenging Roethlisberger for the starting job is either idiotic football commentary … or genius pot-stirring.

I’d take a Leftwich-Dixon battle over an Anderson-Leinert battle.
Actually I’d take Batch over Anderson or Leinert.
At least the Steelers only need to worry about the QB position for 4 games. Arizona has a whole season of painful QB-ing to look forward to.

Dixon starting is as ridiculous as Scalaid’s comment that Brees and Favre are “elite” QBs while Ben is not. It just doesn’t make any sense.
Dixon has looked great against guys who’ll be delivering for UPS soon. His big achievement so far has been a couple of dumps the WRs have turned into big YAC bonanzas. He’s been admonished by his O-coordinator for missing wide open receivers, when he’s taken off running instead.
The Steelers need to survive at 2-2 until Ben comes back. You don’t take chances on an unproven. Leftwich IS proven. Case closed.

Retarded.
Dixon started one game. He was in a protected offense based on his skills against Baltimore. He proved to be very inaccurate during the game and did not read the defense well in his limited role. He did run for a touchdown, waking the gallows of Kordell Stewart. He finalized the Ravens victory with a poor decision and poor throw.
Dixon has been admonished by his O-Coordinator of not being able to pick up the defenses well yet (very vanilla in pre-season by the way) and running too early, not going through progressions well.
So, in 8 total quarters you are pushing him like he is Joe Namath. He has been going up largely against 3rd and 4th and NO-teamers. Most of his throws have been of the short variety and his receivers have made the runs after the catch.
Let’s try to take a drink of common sense and back off the sensationalism just yet. Get back to the old school reporting with the glib comments, knock off the overhype.

I agree that Ben had a very bad performance in SB 40,but a lot of people forget how great he played throughout the playoffs.If the Steelers stuck to the plan of run first,play defense and dont take any chances throwing the football then we would have never beaten the Colts.In fact,we might have also lost to the Bronco’s the week after in the AFC championship game.Not to mention that it was only Ben’s 2nd year in the league.

Its funny that you mention that because Bens first super bowl was a great example of how the opposite can also be true. Despite him turning in the lowest QB rating in super bowl history his defense and run game was still able to overcome his mistakes and bring home the lombardi.

Finally….the coaches have seen the light. Dixon can beat you in many ways. Leftwich can’t. Gotta go with Dixon. As for the retards out there who think Dixon is better than Ben, you guys are just jealous that Ben is 1,000 times the QB your team’s QB will ever be. Steelers lost that game against Baltimore with Dixon. He through an interception in overtime. Other than running for a touchdown, he did not look very good in the pocket. He has yet to win a game in the big leagues and people are comparing him to a two time super bowl champion. Tomlin is giving him some reps against the first teamers on Sunday.. we will see.. So much hype!!!
