The Cleveland Browns have announced the first 16 members of their Ring of Honor, and will formally induct those 16 members at halftime of the home opener.
As it currently stands, that event will take place without the best Brown of them all, Jim Brown, who’s miffed that the team removed him from his management position. But Browns front office boss Mike Holmgren says he talked to Brown and he’s still hoping Brown can be there.
“We had a very good conversation,” Holmgren said, per FanHouse.com. “I’m hopeful he can be there. Jim Brown is synonymous with the Cleveland Browns, one of the great players in the NFL. This will be a great celebration for all of us and the 16 families on that day and I trust he’ll be part of that.”
Brown’s wife was quoted as saying that a scheduling conflict will keep Brown away from the ceremony. Brown hasn’t said publicly whether he’ll be there or not, but Holmgren seems to think that “good conversation” convinced Brown to make room for the event in his schedule.
“Hey Jim, come to this thing so I don’t look like a total doucheface in front of all these drunk-ass, bottle-throwing fans, and I’ll give you your job back.”
What? It’s a good conversation…
Jim Brown will be unavailable, as he is already scheduled to attend a “hate white folk” rally, after buying another multi-colored yarmulke on steroids.
“”We had a very good conversation,” Holmgren said”
“I said, ‘Please come’ and he said, ‘F- you Honkey!’”
Of course he does…
What exactly were Jim Brown’s job responsibilities? Regardless, I guess he deserves some easy money; he was an all-time-great in an era where they didn’t earn nearly as much. Even though I can’t stand it when he opens his big mouth.
Good conversation included 1 million bucks to show up knowing the classes Jim Brown
Jim Brown NEVER PLAYED FOR THIS BROWNS TEAM. It is an expansion team started in 1999. Jim Brown last played when the Beatles didn’t know what pot was. Why should he care? No matter how many times you click your red heels together clownie fan, the Browns you root for are not the Browns that Jim Brown played for. Pay the man to pretend!
He should have plenty of time now that he’s not spending those 16 hour grueling days helping to manage the franchise.
Maybe he’s got too many ladies to hit to have time to attend.
Dear Mr. Brown,
Please come to the ceremony, you deserve to be reconized finally in public, in Browns Stadium. You were always my hero when I was a kid growing-up in Toledo. When the Lord closes one door, He opens other doors for you, this is one of those doors.
You are the greatest running back I have ever seen! Please come, you’ve earned this honor!
Jack
NO!!!!
That’ll show em
I don’t understand some of the comments made here. In my opinion, Jim Brown is and was the best running back I have ever seen.
My only question is why he is not in the ring of honor in Baltimore, the Ravens are the Browns stolen from Cleveland.
So after we were snubbed by LeBron, the guy who we worshipped in some cases more than God is going to snub us too!? Come on Jim, sack up and show up. You may be mad about the front office move to push you out, but we all thought you talked too much about things you had no right to talk about. Get over it.
No doubt that “schedule conflict” his wife gave as a reason Brown may not attend has something to do with sitting on the couch watching film clips of himself in the 60s and bitching about someone or something.
the browns won 3 championships before jim brown. they won 1 with him.
and that championship was won primnarily becsuse the browns iffy d shut out the highest scoring offense in the league, stunning the colts.

The Browns, the NFL, and Modell actually reached a legal agreement in 1996 that keeps the Browns legacy in Cleveland; the Ravens are technically a brand new franchise. The “deactivated” status of the Browns from 1996-1999 is what separates this from the Indianapolis move in ’84.
It’s actually kind of interesting, because that agreement was used as leverage for a lot of other teams to get new stadiums in the years that followed. In that 1996 agreement, Cleveland was promised a new team by 1999–either through expansion or a transfer from another city–but in exchange the city of Cleveland had to agree to tear down Municipal Stadium and build a state-of-the-art facility (one that not incidentally cost nearly twice as much as the one Art Modell wanted them to build in 1994). Owners across the league threatened similar moves, and cities responded out of fear of being placed into similarly disadvantageous situations (read: overpaying for a stadium build on a very tight timeline). As a result, several new stadiums went up over the next four years, paid for with public funds.
(Witness some of the beneficiaries of said leverage: Broncos, Patriots, Eagles, Seahawks, Buccaneers, Bengals, Steelers, Lions, Cardinals, and Colts).

I was going to call you a fcking idiot, and correct your reformist history; but I see someone already did.
I guess I can still call you a fcking idiot.
hey maxtng, you are a fcking idiot.
Brown is not the best in franchise history. Otto is. Why do people keep overlooking him?
His wife is smart, she doesn’t want to get thrown off a balcony.
obiemiils-
You’re an idiot, too.
The Browns and their history are in Cleveland. just because d-bags in Baltimore didn’t have the sense to leverage the league to keep your name and history as we did here in Cleveland, doesn’t mean you need to show your severe mental retardation and mention this everytime the situation comes up. We could make a much better case that your Super Bowl trophy belongs in Cleveland, you short-bus riding drool rag!
Besides, Jim brown wouldn’t be caught dead in your crappy city. He hates you, your team, and Modell most of all.
Now go get your shine box!
Jim Brown might have been a great player, but he has proved to be nothing but a petty jerk off the field. For every good he has done off the field, he has made up for it by doing something to offend, disrespect, or spite others. I hope he stays far away from my Browns.
hazi- you are hazy. regardless of what ever else anyone says about jim brown, never imply he might have been a great player. he was the best player i ever saw. i am 57, so i never saw otto graham play. the first nfl game i distincly remember watching was the colts-giants sudden death game. i think jim brown ushered in the modern nfl era, and i think he was the best player ever in that era.
all you dinks making fun of the man, you either never saw him play, are racists, or just stupid. believe this, no one who ever tried to tackle him made fun of him.
i can’t see why it is so surprising that jim isn’t anxious to join a celebration of a company that just let him go a couple months ago. if the cleveland fans threw some party not profiting the browns, my guess is jim would show up. to me he seems to be a standup guy in the public sense,
although i know nothing about the stuff in his private life you all are bombing him with, my guess is if the commenters throwing the bombs shit was on display, it would look equally shitty or perhaps even more so than jim brown’s. and they were never the best at anything in their entire lives, so they have to elevate themselves somehow.
