Next McNabb snap should come against Cowboys

Donovan McNabb’s first preseason in Washington was fun while it lasted.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan confirmed Wednesday the odds are “very, very slim” that McNabb will take another snap before the team opens against the Cowboys in Week One. We knew McNabb was out this week, and Shanahan doesn’t want to risk any further injury to McNabb’s ankle in the fourth preseason week.

Shanny, like a handful of coaches, traditionally doesn’t like to play his quarterbacks in the fourth preseason game at all. McNabb would love to play, but it sounds like he’ll watch the Sexy Rexy show from the sideline no matter how McNabb feels physically.

We’ll know how McNabb’s ankle is progressing by when he returns to practice.

The Redskins want McNabb to learn his new offense, but they can’t afford him to be hobbled heading into a 16-game schedule that starts with DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer teeing off against a questionable offensive line.
