Cameron Sheffield leaves game with neck injury

For the second straight week, a Chiefs defender has been taken off the field after being immobilized on a stretcher.

We just hope that linebacker Cameron Sheffield is able to return to the team as fast as cornerback Maurice Leggett was able to after his injury last weekend. (Leggett suffered a concussion and was able to watch practice this week.)

Sheffield went down in the third quarter Friday after a scary helmet to helmet hit. While his teammates all kneeled in prayer around him, Sheffield was lifted on to a stretcher and then taken off the field in a cart. Sheffield did not appear to show any movement. The Chiefs say it’s a neck injury and that Sheffield is being evaluated.

We’ll let you know when we hear an update. In the meantime, we send our best thoughts to Sheffield in hopes for a positive prognosis.

UPDATE: Sheffield was conscious and talking to medical personnel as he left the field.

UPDATE II: Coach Todd Haley sent his prayers out to Sheffield, but didn’t have medical information he felt comfortable giving out yet.
