Shaun Phillips faces another lawsuit

Chargers linebacker Shaun Phillips was already being sued in one case that has the potential to disrupt his 2010 season. Now he’s the defendant in another suit.

Phillips is being sued by a 54-year-old woman who says he hit her at the Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas in 2008, the San Diego Union-Tribune is reporting. In the other suit, a security guard claims he was punched in the face by Phillips in April 2009.

Phillips did not face criminal charges in either of the two cases. In the Las Vegas incident, police described Phillips as “very cooperative” and the woman who accused him of assault as “drunk.”

The woman says Phillips elbowed her in the head to keep her off a dance floor. She seeks damages of more than $10,000 for injuries.

These are civil cases not criminal cases. These two are looking for a handout. It is dissapointing to see what passes as “news” to this organization. One can only hope that these stories are “filler” until the season starts.

Advocates of tort reform focus on the wrong targets. Since their pockets are being lined by corporate America, all they care about is limiting damages that might make negligent corporations reconsider deliberately marketing cars they know will explode on impact. What they SHOULD be doing is preventing people from circumventing the legal system and clogging the courts with frivolous lawsuits.
If you get drunk and start a row on a dance floor, you shouldn’t be able to sue the other patrons. If you get shot while robbing a bar, your family shouldn’t be able to sue the bar owner. If you’re in prison and want crunchy peanut butter instead of smooth, you shouldn’t be able to sue for cruel and unusual punishment. And if you screw some guy and text your friends how great he was, you shouldn’t be able a year later to sue him for $3 million claiming it was rape. Wish we could throw these people under the jail–and the lawmakers with them.

Could see an elbow to the face in a club where people get to be packed like rats. If itcwas intentional she would be bruised up and a criminal case would proceed.

Shaun, you should have headbutted her instead, then maybe they would have just thrown a flag.

These accusations are serious and unacceptable – I do not care if they are right or wrong – he has been accused so he must be suspended – cause has it right 6 knocked down to 4 if he kisses GODells ass.

Just jealous… you have got to be on medication my friend… Did you see how pitiful that D looked last night giving up over 500 yards of offense? Add to that the fact that McNeil isn’t there, so you can protect poor Philip… People being sued, people holding out and getting hurt as soon as they come back, the VJ distraction… not to mention the team has been Norved… you’ve been the beneficiaries of the AFC West being pathetic for a few years… that is changing, albeit slowly.. whereas you guys are changing too, you have NO depth… Chargers will be among the most disappointing teams this year.. along with the Jets and Vikes IMHO. This team has got implosion written all over it…
