Percy Harvin on migraines: "Everything should be behind me"

Vikings wideout Percy Harvin returned to the field Saturday night, catching two passes for 30 yards against the Seahawks.  Harvin believes he won’t be sidelined again anytime soon by migraines.

“We did find something,” Harvin said.  “It’s not life-threatening, but it’s something that we need to work on, and we will.”

The Vikings’ trainer mentioned that an adverse reaction to some medicine may have partially caused his latest collapse.  Whatever it is, Harvin is convinced they may have finally found an effective treatment for his chronic and crippling migraine headaches.

“They found some things that we think is the main cause of it,” Harvin said of a test on Friday.  “We’re all
feeling really confident. I know we said that a couple times, but I
think this time we found what the main cause was. I’m not saying I won’t
ever get a headache again, but hopefully, we can slow it down a little
bit.”

With so many other issues on the Vikings offense, it would be a huge boost for the team to put this one behind them.

Migraines are a crippling and debilitating disease; I know first hand. Relatively new meds, eg., Imitrix, are migraine specific, in other words, they aren’t pain killers and do not work on headaches, only migraines. However, they do not work all the time or on all migraine sufferers. If the Vikings have found ways of preventing Harvin’s migraines, I’d love to know what these measures are. They could be of benefit to many others.

You have to be the poorest excuse for a fan. This is twice I see you mentioning people going to hospitals after they play the Saints. Most real football fans like to see a good game with no injuries but hey if that is what floats your boat sobeit.
Now, congrats on the Saints winning the Superbowl. I was happy for the town and Drew Brees. He is a class act and deserved it. But if you are going to sit here and think the Saints didn’t get their asses handed to them in that game you are highly mistaken. I credit their defense for causing turnovers and blame the Vikings for beating themselves. But it was the Saints that had their asses kicked up and down the field. The difference is the Vikings didn’t play dirty and didn’t intentionally go out to hurt someone.
Maybe before you spout off with your mouth you can think about how low the Saints team really is as an organization. Yeah, you won a superbowl now. That’s great. But it doesn’t take away the fact this organization has won only 5, yes count them, 5 playoff games in their 43 year history. Now maybe you can go place another brown paper garbage bag over your head. It will only be a matter of time before the Saints are bad again.

You know what else is great? The Saints are world champions NOW. TODAY! AT THIS VERY MOMENT! We’re not talking about 1973 anymore, or even 2008. They beat your team, deserved to win and went on to win the Super Bowl, so quit falling back in this insipid line of discussion wherein a team’s total history is called into question.
Go shit in someone else’s Post Toasties and learn to live with the harsh truth.

Um, the scoreboard is the sole indicator of who has “their asses handed to them.” As for who played dirty, it’s football, dude….if you don’t want to see your guy take a hit, watch tennis. Vikings fans are notorious for saying how the Vikes outplayed a team that beat them. Further, to suggest the Saints are somehow inferior and destined to be “bad again” only points to the fact that you are a crybaby. You conveniently left out the part where in that same 43-year span, the Saints are batting 1.000 in Super Bowls, whereas the Vikings are zero-for-four. Who sucks now? Try having your team win the big one, or at least consistently sell out games before you talk trash.

Ejmat…yes, you are correct…the Saints have been consistently miserable over the years and no Saints fan would argue that. We give you queens fans such a hard time because you make it so easy to do so. After a loss, that I’m sure was heartbreaking last year, all you fools could do was blame the refs, “dirty play” which was really nothing more than hard nosed football and even that the NFL rigged it, the superbowl and the entire season. For that, you leave yourselves wide open for the same type of trash talk. As for pathetic organizations…dude, yours takes the cake! You guys are the NFLs laughing stock…examples are Childo, the three wise Viqueens, begging players to play because your hopes and dreams hang on a 41 year old qb that you loathed for 16 years and now he’s your savior? Please man…you guys sure can dish it out but taking it is another story. You guys live on a bunch of solid (but empty seasons). I’d sure rather be in my boat anyday over yours.

Queens rule, keep telling yourself that the team with the number one offense 3 out of the past 4 seasons sucks. Keep telling yourself that the Saints really weren’t the NFCs #1 seed last year…whatever makes you feel better man. Vikings will lose miserably in week 1 and I’ll be looking for you on September 10th so that I can rub it in…queens won’t see the post season this year…watch!

ejmat, I agree with some of what you said.
“Most real football fans like to see a good game with no injuries…”
I agree, but most football fans like to see guys get hurt (based on the old football coach explanation of if you’re hurt you can still play, but if you’re injured you can’t). However, with a team that employs Jared Allen, can its fans really complain about another team playing dirty (see Schaub, Matt; 2008)?
It wasn’t a few questionably dirty plays that cost the Vikings the game, it was turnovers. How many Vikings fans have said “the Vikings would have won the game if they didn’t have so many turnovers.” That’s like saying, “if it wasn’t for the 15 beers, I wouldn’t have gotten a DUI.” Besides the score, turnovers are one of, if not the most important stat in football.
    ————————————————–
“Yeah, you won a superbowl now. That’s great. But it doesn’t take away the fact this organization has won only 5, yes count them, 5 playoff games in their 43 year history”
This is the hilarious part. Sure the Vikings have won 19 playoff games. Do you know who wears playoff victories as a badge of honor? Fans of teams which has never won a championship. They don’t award rings for playoff victories. Nobody plays for a Halas trophy. You don’t see teams with playoff victories visiting the White House.
Would you care to guess why Joe Montana is considered a better quarterback than Dan Marino? Here’s a clue, it’s not because of regular season stats. Would you care to guess why Brett Favre will never be considered the greatest QB ever? Because when it comes to championships, he’s in a class that includes Jim McMahon, Jeff Hostetler, Mark Rypien, Trent Dilfer, and Brad Johnson to name a few.
The fact remains, the Saints have a Lombardi trophy and the Vikings do not.

And before you begin talking trash, know your facts. The Vikings have sold out every game for the past several years. How about the Aints?
If you think the scoreboard is the only thing that tells the story then you are sadly mistaken. So there is nothing to the game other than the final score? Nothing happens at all except the score? I admit it is the only thing that really matters especially considering the game but keep denying the FACT that the Vikings kicked the Aints asses that game. Please do. It will show Sept 9th.

    ———————————————–
Um yes. They’ll let the Vikings move. The bottom line is money. The Vikings can’t afford to pay their quarterback all of salary in the year he earned it. It’s an uncapped year and their franchise running back is being denied a raise. Without signing another team’s HOF QB, this team struggles to fill seats – there’s no 60,000 person season ticket waiting list in MN. Long-term, this team is not profitable for the league.
They might not move as the Vikings, but the players, coaches, staff, etc. can move to Los Angeles. I bet the Minnesota Lakers and the Minnesota North Stars had some fun rivalries too.
Here’s what likely happens. Pawlenty wants to be president. As a conservative in an already financially strapped state, it would be career suicide for him to stick the taxpayers with the bill for a new stadium in the worst economy since the depression. The Vikings team name, logo, stats, etc. will stay in Minnesota, but the players (you know, the important part of a team) will move to Los Angeles, Columbus, Mexico City or elsewhere. Then in five years or so when the economy has recovered, Minnesota will build a new football stadium and the Jaguars or Rams or some other crappy franchise will move there and become the Vikings.

Dude by a %#$@ clue you moron. First, yes, the Saint beat the Vikes in the game. Fine. Its says so in the history books. But for you to call out another person and say they are a crybaby for pointing out the facts of the game is ridiculous. You can fall-back on the fact that your team won. But that is it. Dan Deirdorf said it the other night during the Saints broadcase on national TV dude: The Saints had a lot of things go right in the OT and were outplayed in that game. Your response shoud be ‘so what, we won.’
Dont come back and act like there is some legitimacy to your “watch Tennis” game you tool. The NFL flat out said their should have been 2 more 15 yarders against your D-Line for Favre hits. Thats a fact. Know what else is a fact? You barely had 200 yards of total offense against our D. You only put up points because of Percy’s only fumble of the ENTIRE YEAR, Bernard Berrians ONLY fumble of the year, APs continual issues and still, had Favre not made that throw, you wouldnt be saying a $@!%% word today. Do you know what else is the truth? Your team is a sad, pathetic franchise who has only made 5 playoff games. Yep, you won the big one there and are batting a .1000. Hmmm, but four chances in the big game, and 3 NFC title games in the last 11 years says we will still end up with alot more chances, and more SBs when its all said and done. You next NFC title game is probably 50 years away dude. Take solice in the fact you won a big game, but dont come on this board and act like your the better franchise, and even outplayed the Vikings on that day. If the roles were reversed, you’d be spitting out the same lyrics, and its the truth either way.
Oh, and one more thing Fire Ted, your obviously a complete moron, since the Vikings have sold out every single game since 1998. Dip$@#!@.

I watched it. The Saints scored three more points than the Vikes, so they DID deserve to win it. It reminded me of other Super Bowls I’ve seen like when the Steelers beat the Seahawks, or when the Giants beat the Patriots by scoring more points than their opponent. In fact, I’ve seen this occur many times when one team scores more points. I think you’re confusing the whole “winning and losing” thing, and I’d be happy to explain it to you sometime. Just be sure to bring flash cards and a dictionary.

So which is it? Did the Saints defense force the turnovers or did the Vikings “beat themselves”? If the Saints had gotten “their asses kicked up and down the field” the game wouldn’t have been tied late in the 4th. I’d say Favre got his ass kicked pretty good in that game. I take it you weren’t around to watch football in the 70’s and 80’s. Teams weren’t shy about wanting to kill the QB. It’s today’s pussified NFL fan (and their fuhrer Roger Goodell) that has a problem with defenders wanting to inflict violence on the opposing QB. That is the name of the game and always has been. And i’m not even a Saints fan or a Packers fan.
And as for Aaron Rodgers, he’s only off to the best 2 year start in the history of pro football. The Vikes would trade Old Yeller and their 1st round picks for the next 3 years straight up for Aaron Rodgers. No team in the NFL would choose Favre over Rodgers. None.

“LOS ANGELES — The company behind a plan to lure the NFL back to Los Angeles said Tuesday the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills are the first teams it will try to relocate.
He said the Jaguars and the Bills are at the top of the list because they play in small markets that tamp down their earning potential and because they have little hope of building larger venues in their home regions.
“Jacksonville and Buffalo are two teams in very, very small markets, he said. “They are teams that have either outdated stadiums or are having trouble filling their stadiums or both.”
The Jaguars have struggled for years to fill Jacksonville Municipal Stadium and had several games blacked out on local TV last season. The Bills, meanwhile, have been playing some home games in Toronto in an effort to expand their market.
Messages were left seeking comment from the Jaguars and Bills.
Jaguars majority owner Wayne Weaver and Bills owner Ralph Wilson have steadfastly dismissed any suggestion they will sell or move their teams.
Semcken said Majestic won’t approach the 49ers, Chargers or Vikings as long as they are seeking stadium plans of their own. He said it would not be fair to interfere with their efforts to remain in their home markets.
Semcken also said Majestic chief executive Ed Roski’s preference is to find owners willing to sell their franchise to a consortium of investors that he would lead, rather than buying a minority stake in a team that would move with its existing majority owner at the helm.”

Thirdly, I remember a PLAYOFF game at that dump your team calls a stadium just two years ago that was threatened to be blacked out because it didn’t sell out. Ultimately your beloved team has been a failure for the entire 50 years its been around. As for who I follow, yeah I am a Packers fan so go ahead and tell me how much my team sucks…don’t forget to throw in how they got beat by Arizona in the playoffs last year (make sure you ignore the fact that Aaron Rodgers should have gotten a 15yd facemask penalty on the last play…right after you use the same excuse ad nausem to defend the fact that your team lost, err HAD THEIR ASSES HANDED TO THEM by the Saints in the NFCCG. ) You suck, your team sucks, you had one good season, yeah, you beat the Packers twice and unlike you, I can accept that my team got beat by the better team….just like your team did in the NFC title game.
@pervy, the only response I have for your stupid assed comment about Hurricanes and crime, um…that bridge collapse on I35 W was a laugh riot…see how stupid that sounds? Effing douchebag.

To the Saints fans antagonizing as well: Shut up; you won the super bowl, congrats. You deserved it and were the best team all season. You didn’t play a great game in the NFC championship, but you played better than us because you had more points.
To the Packer fans: I absolutely hate you but your fan base is the best in the NFL. You are right that we don’t have a 60k person waiting list but it has nothing to do with the state’s passion for the Vikes. The dome is the worst experience in professional sports. It is unbearable to watch a game there unless you have really good seats. If the Vikes ever get an outdoor stadium just look what happened with the Twins, I think they are 3rd in the American League in attendance as one of the smaller markets. I am happy with all of the replies so I’m not going to quote anyone but just go with what I’ve read and answer.
A lot of people make great points. Yes the Saints are World Champions now. Didn’t I say that too? However, it stll doesn’t take away for their poorish play for many, many years. My point to that is that a fan that likes a team to where it has had such a poorish history has no ground to talk trash about any other team.
I love all the fans that say Viking fans are blaming the refs or the dirty play. All that is twisting anything I said. As a matter fo fact didn’t I give credit to the Aints defense for causing the turnovers and blame the Viking players for their lack of focus and beating themselves? Didn’t I? Please answer that. The answer is yes to both questions. Therefore before you start throwing out more trash (I know you are good at it since it seems that is all you know) ready WTF I write. I never blamed the refs. I never blamed the dirty play. However the FACT of the matter is they were part of that game. Believe me it was a heart breaker for all Viking fans. But they only have themselves to blame to lose a game they simply dominated. I understand that and have come to grips with it. So stop trying to twist what I say into something I am not saying.
Capt Fantastic – You act as though I contradicted myself. If you can’t understand what I wrote let me spell it out for you. The Vikings did dominate the game. The FACT is the Saints won the game. But if you want to deny the fact the Vikings outplayed them all that is denial. I have family that are Saints fans and they are the first to admit they should have lost. But I am the first to admit the Vikings beat themselves. At the same time I can give credit where it’s due. The Saints did what they had to win. As far as the dirty plays are concerned, you can win without playing dirty. They were blatently playing dirty. Did that cause the Vikings to lose the game? No! That isn’t what I am saying. Just bad sportsmanship.
Now the guy that spoke about Jared Allen vs Schaub – you do realize Allen was blocked into Schaub right? Or are you just trying to say something without knowing the true cause? Maybe when you watch the game or replay you will see you are FOS.
As for the Vikes fan that says I don’t know what I am talking about. You aer one of the reasons these guys come into Viking threads and talk crap about their fans. If you hope that people get injured then you are not a true football fan. You may call yourself one and think you are one but no one should wish injury on another player. I don’t care if it is Favre, Rodgers, Brees or whoever.
Enough said for now. Thanks for the feedback. I look forward to more trash talk. Maybe when one of you can actually prove what I am saying is wrong without twisting what I say you’ll look more like you know what you are talking about.

Look at it this way……Any team that turns the ball over 5 times and is still in a position to win the game at the end of the game obviously beat themselves. With 5 turnovers, the Saints should have never have had to worry about overtime, the should have been ahead by at least 17 points at the end of the game.
How get your head out of your ass when you post in the future!

  72. ejmat says: Aug 29, 2010 4:15 PM

SJ Apollo – You make great points. I can’t and won’t argue with any of them. But yes I do find it hillarious that Saint fans trash talk anyone. After all it isn’t Viking fans going into articles about the Saints going in and wishing harm to their team. It is me going in and blaming anyone but themselves.
You are right in that turnovers are an important stat. I for one am not a person that depends so much on stats to tell the entire story. They don’t. There are so many variables to each stat.
Again, I never made the excuse of “IF” the Vikings wouldn’t have turned the ball over they would have won. That is a given. The fact is the Vikings blew it by even being in an OT situation to begin with after dominating a game. I never blamed the refs nor the dirty play, nor did I throw out “Ifs”. It is what it is. Saints won and Vikings lost. But for a Saint fan to come in and say their team wasn’t dominated is laughable.

    For example,
Political Corruption in New Orleans, 21st Century
    The names include:
    * Governor Edwin Edwards, convicted of extorting money from applicants for riverboat casino licenses and sentenced to a 10-year prison sentence.
    * Jerry Fowler, a former election commissioner serving a four-year sentence.
    * Jim Brown, a former insurance commissioner released from prison in 2003, the third commissioner in a row to go to prison.
    * Congressman William Jefferson under investigation in the the probe of Governor Edwards.
    * Judge Alan Green, brother-in-law of Congressman Jefferson, convicted.
    * Former Judge Ronald Bodenheimer, under federal investigation.
    * Family members and associates of former Mayor Marc Morial under investigation.
    * Morial’s uncle Glenn Haydel, former manager of the Regional Transit Authority accused of diverting $550,000 in RTA funds into his person accounts.
In other federal cases, 10 people have been charged in an alleged scheme to skim hundreds of thousands of dollars from an $81 million dollar energy management contract that Morial signed with Johnson Controls while in office. Among those indicted are Morial associated Stan “Pampy” Barre and Kerry DeCay.
But, let’s be clear: the Saints won, no conspiracy. The NFC Championship and and Superbowl both reside in New Orleans for the 2009 season.
However, if there is a fan base which contains a worse bunch of winners, I’d hate to see it.
That being said, maybe coming from a place like New Orleans must breed one helluva inferiority complex, so you can understand why they are so defensive and bitter…

“the Jaguars and the Bills are at the top of the list because they play in small markets that tamp down their earning potential and because they have little hope of building larger venues in their home regions.
Jacksonville and Buffalo are two teams in very, very small markets, he said. “They are teams that have either outdated stadiums or are having trouble filling their stadiums or both.”

To the poster who said the NFL wont let the vikings leave Minnesota…Im sure you have some state law that will prevent this.
I’m one that said the NFL would never let the Vikings leave. No need for a state law. Most laws are based on flawed logic……keeping the Vikings in MN is based on common sense, something you obviously know nothing about!

Wait, because the team we root for hasn’t won the big one we don’t have the right to comment here? I don’t get it, where does it say that on this site?
Why are you so indignant about Vikings fans sticking up for their team on a story about their team and their team only? That’s like going to the official Republican Party website as a Democrat and razzing people for sticking up for their political beliefs on their own site. Or like going to a memorial site for Katrina victims and telling people to stop whining.
You people just don’t get it, do you? YOU are the invaders and unwelcome ones here. Some of us just want to talk actual football about our team, but we can’t because all you do is spit venom all over the comments. And don’t give me any of that “can’t take the heat!” crap, because we’re more than willing to trash talk football-wise right back at ya, but you guys constantly cross the line. Do Vikings fans in other team’s stories cross the line too? Absolutely. But everyone practicing eye for an eye eventually leaves everyone blind, and then… well then I can’t watch football :(

Every Viking fan is well aware of the fact they have never won the Superbowl. However, it seems to be the only thing other fans can throw at them. Other than calling peoplel names and attacking them all anyone ever does is say they’ve never won the Superbowl. Well, tell us something we don’t know.
The funny thing is we state facts about games. It is not like we make anything up. Yet, all the others do is say they are excuses for losing. Well, maybe they are. But please try and prove they are not fact. You can’t. I posted the you tube link that PROVES the Vikings were ripped off against the Saints for calls beyond their control. Again, I blame the Vikings for putting themselves in that predicament (fumbles, INTs, stupid penalties). But in no way shape or form does it take away the FACT the refs made calls that aided the Saints.
No excuses. The Saints won and deserved to. Anytime you outscore your opponent you deserve to win. However, it doesn’t mean you weren’t dominated. Which the Saints were in almost every phase of the game. Score and turnovers being the only two but they are the most important when all is said and done.

ejmat, your thread proves nothing. You see, if you knew anything about the NFL, you’d know that each week the league reviews the tape of the prior weeks games. After reviewing the tape of the NFCCG the leagues stated very clearly that NONE of the calls in OT were incorrect. No matter what talking heads on ESPN think of it.
The ball never came out of Pierre Thomas’s left hand so it goes to it’s furthest point.
Ben Leber was not looking back at the QB when he made contact with Dave Thomas so it’s pass interference.
Robert Meachem’s catch was controlled as it touched the ground meaning it is in possession.
See, these are the RULES of the game not my opinion. This what the head of officiating for the NFL said after reviewing the tape.
LEARN THE RULES before you post shit that you don’t know.

I don’t know anything about the NFL? Really? How do you know WTF I know and don’t know?
First of all you say the ball never left Thomas’ hands? Really? You must be blind.
Second, Ben Leber never looked back. That’s true. But he also never touched the receiver. Plus the ball WAS NOT CATCHABLE. Do you know the freaking rules?
3rd, Meachum’s catch did in fact touch the ground and he was bobbling the ball. Under the rules of the NFL that is an incomplete pass.
Before you start typing BS and claim someone else doesn’t know anything about football know the rules yourself. How does it feel to make a total idiot of yourself in the matter of 2 minutes or however long it took you to type your post?
The real sad thing is I was very happy for the Saints to win the Superbowl. The city and Drew Brees deserved it. But fans like you make it difficult to celebrate anything about it. You come into a Viking article thread, post a bunch of turd BS and attack the person you are trying to prove wrong. I have provided actual video to prove my point. What are you providing? ejmat, you gave your opinion. I gave the facts according to the league, after review. The ball was pushed back in Pierre Thomas’ hand but he controlled it all the way. Ben Leber stepped on Dave Thomas’ foot, and the ball was controlled and the rule is the rule. (Watch all 3 in slo mo on the replay of the NFCCG on NFL network). Again, you are the idiot who can’t face the facts. The league files reports after every game and Mike Periera said all of these were clear so take off your turd colored glasses and watch again. I don’t need to be set free . I have faced facts so I’m not sure what you are trying to prove. I faced the facts the Vikings lost and I have posted that several times in this thread alone. So don’t try to give your condescending BS.
    1) Thomas clearly lost the ball. CLEARLY! Then he recovered it behind the first down marker. Yes, behind. If you are not sure what the ball looks like it’s brown and odd shaped. You know that item in which Thomas looses controld of.
    2) Even if Leber stepped on Dave Thomas’ foot the ball was not catchable. By rule PI cannot be called if the ball is uncatchable. Yes, that is a rule. Look it up.
    3) This is the most debatable. Yes he did bobble the ball. Did he have control of it before it hit the ground? Many people say he didn’t (including me).
Now to clarify everything I have posted since you want to call me an idiot for not facing facts. I believe theSaints deserved to win the game. I am not blaming the game on the calls as a sole basis. Fumbles, INTs, stupid penalties all contributed. But again, if you do not think the calls (especially in OT) were bad then that is your opinion. It’s funny though because there are a lot of Saint fans out there that admit the calls were bad.
The bottom line is the Saints won the game. Good for them. I was happy for Drew Brees and the city of NO. But it is fans like you that make it difficult to celebrate that type of victory for the city. You call me an idiot for not knowing the rules yet you have proven now that YOU are the one that CLEARLY doesn’t know them. Couple that with the fact you have a hard time seeing that the football left Thomas’ control and you really look foolish. Keep trying. You make me laugh.

ejmat and purple4life, first, you assume incorrectly I am a Saints fan. Second, ultimately the scoreboard is the only thing that matters.
    ———————
First off, I apologize for assuming you were a NO fan.
Second – Please show me where I ever said anything negative about the Packers or Aaron Rodgers. Not once. IN fact I thinkk they are a very good team and I look forward to this year as it should be a good competition.
However, if you think the Vikings had their asses handed to them in the NFCCG than I will disagree with you. No, the Vikings didn’t win the game. Yes, I have handled it and have faced the facts they lost. But by no means did they get their asses handed to them. The stats themselves say that. Look at it this way. The Vikings were the visiting team. They managed to lose the turnover margin 5-1. Yet they took the supposed “better team” into overtime. So, like I face facts it amazes me that no other fan can face the facts there were in fact bad calls made in OT that affected the outcome. But hey, that’s part of football and the Vikings put themselves in that situation. But don’t come here and put words in my mouth. I never said anything bad about the Packers or ridiculed them for losing in the playoffs. What’s funny though is you are doing the same thing you accuse the Viking fans of doing. You are making excuses. I do agree Rodgers should have got the 15 yard face mask call. But don’t criticize us for bringing these issues up when you do the same freaking thing.
