Adalius Thomas: Jets want me after Week One

A report surfaced on Sunday that Adalius Thomas could be a Jet early this week, but SI’s Peter King has a source that says that’s not quite true.  And the source is a good one.

“All I know is [G.M.] Mike Tannenbaum called my agent [Bus Cook]
a couple of days ago and they’re interested in maybe doing something
with me — but not until after the first game of the season,” Thomas said in King’s MMQB.

After the opener, Thomas’ salary for the season wouldn’t be guaranteed.  Thomas may not love that idea, but he may not have any choice.  He spoke with Rex Ryan this weekend, but it’s not like other teams are beating down his door.

“I don’t know if teams are scared off about me now or if I’ve been
blackballed,” Thomas said.  “I do think there are teams out there I’d be a
good fit for — the Jets especially.”

You’re not being blackballed Adalius. You just suck and you’re a cancer in the room. Wasn’t Sexy Rexy who kept you in line with the Ravs. That was Ray Lewis.
Hope the Jets do sign him. Will be one more omen guaranteeing their crash and burn.

  3. habibfromnewdehli says: Aug 30, 2010 8:40 AM

This was so obvious. The only reason he’s not already on the Jets is because they panicked this summer and signed Jason Taylor… because they were assuming Patriots wouldn’t release Adalius.

  4. Pastabelly says: Aug 30, 2010 8:44 AM

I guess when you show up late for work and then berate your coach, others aren’t so quick to bring you on. This is a guy who fell in love with himself after getting a megadeal.

Blackballed ? You were an utter and total failure in New England. Maybe if you hadn’t sucked you would have been picked up by another team.

Another head case goes to the Jets.

  7. Nsblend says: Aug 30, 2010 8:55 AM

good sign him too. pretty soon we’ll have a free agent from each team this offseason and will know everybodies playbook. Rex is smarter than he looks.

Dolphins should sign thomas. But parcells is so egotistical

If this is the case, great GM you have there in jestland. No one was knocking on JT’s door either and the Fins said they wouldn’t even talk to him until after the draft (since he turned down an earlier offer in November).

  10. BigBear123 says: Aug 30, 2010 9:05 AM

At least the Jets are doing things right with contract negotiations. No sure guarantee money for players and not guaranteeing anything for this clown. Once Mevis caves and gets his injury only guarantee(should there be any other guarantee) the rest of the league will start to follow suit.
Only thing guaranteed is injury protection, signing bonuses and Obama taking his 50% cut for welfare programs of course.

  11. BenRapistberger says: Aug 30, 2010 9:09 AM

lol, blackballed. right. All the coaches around the league are avoiding putting the oh-so-talented-and-productive Adalius Thomas on their roster because they really respect Bill Belichick.
Maybe you’re just not as good as you think you are?
Or maybe all of the Belichick tree of coaches in the league are telling their GMs not to sign you because you’re a pain in the ass to work with?

  12. Tcostant says: Aug 30, 2010 9:09 AM

  14. PFTiswhatitis says: Aug 30, 2010 9:15 AM

And of course they play the Patriots in Game 2.
    Jets are scum.

@nohopeleft So how do you explain the 2 playoff victories?

  16. It puts the lotion on the skin says: Aug 30, 2010 9:23 AM

Here is what is going to happen Adalius:
-You are going to sign with the Jets after week 1
-You will be the team captain for the coin toss in week 2 against the Pats
-You are going to miss as many tackles for the Jets, as you missed for the Pats
-You wont cover anyone trying to catch a pass
    and finally…
-You will be cut when Calvin Pace returns

  17. shingo says: Aug 30, 2010 9:26 AM

that’s smart business by the Jets.
Tannenbaum = best GM in the league.

  20. Ralphie says: Aug 30, 2010 9:53 AM

The Jests play the Patriots in Game 2. The inevitable signing of AT now completes their defensive (Thomas) and offensive (O’Connell) captains for the game. All they need now is Larry Izzo and they got the Special Teams captain covered.

  24. sportsbruh3 says: Aug 30, 2010 10:11 AM

I wonder why he left the Ravens as a STAND OUT then become miserable with the Patriots.
It appears something is fugged up with the Patriots and not with Adalius

  25. theeWillZee says: Aug 30, 2010 10:15 AM

@Robj hahaha exactly. Only sports (and the internet )can bring such delusions of grandeur to some people. Delusions. Everyone thinks they’re Jay Glazer just because they read a few blogs or troll Twitter.

Yea good idea jets sign somebody else rather then taking care of your own who just so happens to be one of thebest defensive players in the league

  27. Patsfansince73 says: Aug 30, 2010 10:26 AM

Enough of the Thomas bashing already. The real fault with his downfall is B.B. period. The first year with the team he had 82 tackles and 6.5 sacks not to mention the pressure he put on QB’s trying to throw. His second year with the team he was working on just as good numbers (if not better) before breaking his forearm in a November game. In his third year (’09) he wanted to come back and do his job as usual, that is being a pass rushing LB, one of the best the league has ever seen. What does B.B. do with him? Turns him into a stay at home LB instead of letting him be that pass rusher. What did most critics say the team was missing on defense last year? Yeah, a decent pass rusher. Why didn’t B.B. let the man do the job he knows best. Sorry all you Thomas bashers. This is one of the few things B.B. has done wrong since coming to New England. The fault rests entirely on his shoulders, not that of Thomas.

  28. Mike Daly says: Aug 30, 2010 10:33 AM

Adalius thinks he’s being blackballed? Gee, why would other teams not want him?
Patsfansince73 is wrong. Thomas didn’t want to play the way Belichick wanted him to play, and it’s the player who’s supposed to adjust, not the coach. Thomas sold himself as a versatile player and it was a bill of goods – part of his appeal was belief that he could handle the Colts, but he wasn’t used much against the Colts because the Patriots began realizing he was a bill of goods more than a legitimate player. Belichick didn’t let him “do the job he knew best” because Thomas wasn’t doing what he was supposed to do and the longer he was with the team the more he proved to be a cancer.

First of all….one of the best pass rushers in league history? Seriously? Come on.
Second, if he’s so great, and it was just a misuse of schemes, why hasn’t he been picked up yet? Why don’t the Jets want to guarantee his salary?

  30. theeWillZee says: Aug 30, 2010 11:01 AM

Probably a little of everything. AT being dominant in pre-megadeal seasons, then letting off the gas after getting the $$$. Belichick is a good coach, but comes from the AJ Smith school of douchebagery, so I wouldn’t doubt there being a coaches circle smear campaign. I disagree with the above assumption on what AT was “sold” as, again, you are privy to this info how? I’m sure you are in the inside, ie, reading Pats blogs and assuming you’re a knowitall Florio clone. AT was/is a passrusher, not a Dallas Clark shadow.Period.

  31. theeWillZee says: Aug 30, 2010 11:09 AM

Lol at Pats Nation, acting like the its the first time a player ever excelled during contract year only to fizzle after getting paid. You don’t see 49er fan cursing Mate Clements do you? The Sunday Ticket commercial with those retarded Pats fans shoveling snow is spot on.

  32. YouFools says: Aug 30, 2010 11:37 AM

All you Patriot fans are ridiculous. Are you just bitter that your dynasty is over and everyone is over the hill? There’s no running game, and the defense will never be what it was 5 years ago. Get over yourselves

  33. Mike Daly says: Aug 30, 2010 11:47 AM

theWillZee – it was practically boasted at the time he was signed what a versatile player he was supposed to be.
“You don’t see 49ers fans cursing Nate Clements, do you?” Chances are they’re doing so, you’re just ignoring it.
BTW, smear campaigns don’t exist – if a player is being “blackballed” it’s because he brought it on himself.

    Dear AD,
You should have stayed in Baltimore, I bet you’d still be a starter on one of the best D’s in the business. Funny how Ray will make anyone play better and even help a 6th round pick like yourself turn into a pro bowler. Best of luck selling insurance.

Who, exactly, is over the hill (besides the Jets defense)?
No running game? 10th in yards last year, 6th in TDs. The year before? 4th in yards, 4th in TDs.
The Jets are the ones with no consistency running the ball. Two years ago, they were 9th and 5th (yards/TDs). Year before that? 19th and 30th. They also lost their best two backs in Jones and Washington. Greene is an unknown and Tomlinson is a bum. An absolute bum.
6-10 may be shooting for the moon for this team.

  37. Mosi says: Aug 30, 2010 1:18 PM

This has brightened my Monday morning. Thank you, AT, for being such a d-bag. I don’t even have to worry about you keying the JETS in on the Pats defensive playbook, since you never bothered to figure it out while you were in New England, anyway.
Good luck to the JETS in the week 2 SuperBowl. HAhaaaaaa. Can’t wait.

You can tell how great you are by how many people hate you. I mean really are the Jets as bad as some of you people are portraying them? So they sign a few players with chips on their shoulders or who are on one year contracts trying to prove themselves. That old stupid GM of theirs going out to get players to make his team better, what an idiot. Oh thats sarcasm. Some of you wont realize that. Or realize that you get the best players available to try to win. Keep hating the Jets you just keeping the buzz going. LOL. Clowns.
