Everyone knew Colt McCoy was a project type player. That’s why before training camp ever opened Holmgren said that McCoy wouldn’t play this year at all. He actually looked better in the 3rd game. He should get to see a ton of play time in the 4th game. Hopefully we can see more improvement. A few of his throws he has shown flashes of what he can do. He is just still uncomfortable most the time. And working behind the 3rd string OL doesn’t help him either, he has to throw it quick or get sacked basically.

Not that the Browns will make any serious run for anything…but barring injury, I think Delhomme may have a killer season.

I am by NO means going to say that Colt McCoy should be the starting quarterback…but I will tell Browns fans to be a little more realistic with this kid. By the time that he gets into the game (during the preseason), Joe Thomas, Alex Mack, Eric Steinbach and the boys have long since taken their helmets off for the last time of the day. McCoy is playing with a patchwork offensive line, receivers that will most likely not make the team, and running backs that are fighting for the last spot on the team…cut the kid a little slack. Has he looked good….obviously not…but give the kid some room!

A lot depends on coaching and what a young QB is surrounded with. Matt Flynn in Green Bay was drafted in the 7th round in 2008! He has had a good exhibition season and looks like a reliable replacement if Aaron Rodgers should be hurt in Green Bay. McCoy has talent — he needs time to develop.

Whoplayswhere, I disagree. Its the small things that make the biggest difference in the transition from the college ranks to the NFL. Colt’s inadequate clock management skills were on display the entire last drive and culminated with a short throw inbounds, and a hail mary out of the back of sideline/end-zone. He needs to find a way to remain calm out there.

Based on the play so far from Delhomme, and Wallace I think the Browns have time to see if McCoy can develop into a serviceable QB. If not, there is not a lot of money invested or hype surrounding McCoy, in the event he gets released.

McCoy looked lost Saturday. He reminded me a lot of Brady Quinn with a lot of dump off passes and has not seemed very accurate during the preseason. Still, I think he is going to stick simply because he was a third round pick. Rodgers got time to develop and he turned out pretty decent. I am not sure McCoy will ever be more than a reliable back-up. Lets face it, the Browns are really still lacking quality receivers.
Delhomme has looked pretty good this preseason. Wallace will be a decent backup.
I think that Holmgren and his crew have a least brought some stability to the QB position. Of course, a lot of this come against the Rams and Lions.
It also would not surprise to see both Ratcliffe and Mccoy cut and Kellen Clemens brought on board if he dumped by the Jets. One thing is for certain, The Browns need will still be looking for their quarterback of the future in 2011.

McCoy will not be ready for a few years. That is the reason he was taken so late in the draft. Good arm, average mechanics, below average field vision. Looks like a slower JP Losman out there.

McCoy clearly needs a lot of work before he’s ready to take meaningful snaps. Hopefully, Delhomme’s preseason success isn’t a mirage.
