Rodney Harrison weighs in on the Patriots-Jets hate-fest

Rodney Harrison hasn’t played for the Patriots since 2008, but he still has strong feelings about one of New England’s AFC East rivals.

Referencing Tom Brady’s comments that he doesn’t watch Hard Knocks because he hates the Jets, Harrison said he thinks Bardy’s comments represent the feelings of the entire Patriots locker room.

“Tom Brady is an honest guy, but Tom never comes out and blatantly says
how much he hates a particular team,” Harrison said on an NBC Sports media call. “So obviously they’re very tired,
fed up with the trash talk.”

Harrison also noted that Jets coach Rex Ryan has become the most vocal member of the organization. Harrison said that can be particularly galling to players.

“It’s one thing if a player trash talks,” Harrison said. “But if a coach starts trash
talking, guess what? He hasn’t made one tackle, he hasn’t caught the
ball, he hasn’t scored one touchdown.”

Harrison said he thinks his old team is already getting excited about their Week Two game at New Meadowlands Stadium.

“You better believe, the Patriots have that circled with the Jets,” Harrison said. “They
hate the Jets, but they hate them even more because they’ve been coming
out saying, ‘This is our division.'”

My bet is that Harrison still hates the Jets and would take Ryan out himself if it wouldn’t cost him his job at NBC.

EVERYONE has the jet game circled due to this nonsense trash talking from a losing franchise.
It’s going to be a looooong season for you jet fans. Get ready for melt down and 6-10 @ best. 2-4 in the division is weak.

Nobody outside of the jets organization and their fans actually believe it “is the jets division”. The jets haven’t did squat….other than getting a “get out of jail free card” from the bengals and colts last year just to end up with a winning record and wildcard playoff game. Sure they put together a good game against the chargers in the playoffs but let’s give some credit to the chargers too, we have come to expect them to choke come playoff time. Other than that, the jets signed a bunch of “has beens” and “problem children” at the expense of not taking care of their own (t. jones, washington, bevis..etc. etc.), I can only imagine the cohesiveness in that lockerroom. In the early part of the decade, the Skins tried to do what the jets are doing, spending money on egos and past reputations and we all know where that got danny snyder. It would be nice if the media would report on teams that really matter and forget the jets until mid-season when they implode and then do a quick short obituary on them.

  8. bono-zoffa says: Aug 30, 2010 1:00 PM

As a Jets fan, I hope everyone in the Pats organization “hates” the Jets, as I know everyone in the Jets organization does, which means we’re getting a better game when they play.
But I’m sick and tired of Rodney Harrison at this point. I get that he had most of his success as a Pat, but the fact is that he’s no longer a Pat. He’s paid by NBC to be an ANALYST, who hopefully should be first and foremost OBJECTIVE. Unfortunately whenever the Pats come up, he turns into a cheerleader and loses whatever semblance of objectivity he should be working with. Much like many of the clowns who cover the NBA do w/ their teams and how Mike Golic @ ESPN does whenever Notre Dame comes up in convo. It’s nauseating. NBC and the NFL should be better, as should Rodney (as I think he could).

I always get a good laugh when the Jets fans talk about fans of other teams being jealous of Newark Jets.
Yes fans of the other 31 teams are jealous of 41 years of mediocrity
People hate the Jets because they like their fans are a bunch of loud mouth trash talkers who always FOLD .
Anyone noticed how quiet Newark’s fanbase has been since they are starting to realize that Nacho Sanchez looks like a career backup, not the franchise QB that New Jersey thought they had.

Yeah, I agree. Its one thing if a player talks since he has to back it up on the field. Its another when it’s a coach running his mouth, which is why most smart ones don’t.
As far the jets owning the division? Child please. The dolphins swept them last year and are on a 3? game winning streak against the jets, the Pats are better then them and the Jets proved it with their talk of the “superbowl” win in week 2 against the pats.
The bills, well, the jets have their number but it is the bills after all.

  22. 8man says: Aug 30, 2010 2:02 PM

Interestingly enough the Jets contributed heavily to the Patriots first championship. Aside from allowing Kraft to pluck the coach.
One, Mo Lewis knocked out Bledsoe, allowing Brady to ascend. Two, the Jets won a huge game on the road in Oakland in week 17 of the 2001 season to drop the Raiders to third in the conference, giving the Patriots a play-off bye and forcing the Raiders to come east for what would be the Snow Bowl and the Tuck Game.
So whatever the Jets and their fans think of this Patriots team and the team of the last decade, they had a hand in building it.
    So thanks, New York.

    ________________________________
Ummm HGH isn’t a steroid so there’s no roid rage (which you should understand being a fan of a team widely know for all its admitted roiding up back in the day). Besides you don’t GET CAUGHT for it, there’s no test approved by the NFLPA since the only test for HGH is a blood test. Rodney ADMITTED IT when they found a paper trail. He could have let the investigation drag out but he took his medicine like a man as he should have. He did wrong and he came clean.
As to that poster “bono” or whoever talking about RH’s “Pats cheerleading”… I guess you missed the whole episode where Rodney bagged on Belichick for going for it on 4th & 2 vs the Colts huh? Rodney speaks his mind for good or bad, he doesn’t toady up to anyone. That’s precisely why he SHOULD be on tv.

and I hate the Patriots. I’ll be down in the Meadowlands Week 2 and I can’t wait. It’ll probably be a good game, but the Jets aren’t letting them come in and beat them… no way. As for Rex Ryan talking, his team backs it up. You don’t see his players getting pissed about it, you see his players come out and say the same damn things. Kris Jenkins and Bart Scott aren’t afraid to speak their minds either. Everybody hates on the Jets… When the Jets were actually a 4-12 team or 9-7 team the past few seasons, people weren’t hating on them like this. People are hating on the Jets how everybody used to hate on the Cowboys in the 90’s and the Patriots for the past decade or so. It takes a good team to attract so much hate, nobody would waste their breath on a garbage team… I don’t go onto the Rams posts all like yeaaaa this team is garbage.
