Both, Rogers and Big Ben, are guilty of a crime. Rogers, should of recieved jail time. any one of us on here would of been charged and sentenced to jail. Big Ben should of recieved jail time. Its funny that the officer that the girl reported the rape to, RETIRED a few days after.
Know ive been a police officer for 17 years. and an officer retired with a few years on. cant draw a pention. so how much money do you think he recieved in his mail box. to say what ever he said about the rape.
know a woman being drunk does not mean she caint be raped. thats not an excuse.
now for rogers. every one knows that rogers wasent going to shoot anyone or take over the plane. But anyone with a gun knows where it is at all times. so he knew that gun was in his bag, and if you beleave he didnt then your kidding yourself.
the crimes that the pro athelet committs, should get the same punishment that the common person gets.
im not going to stick up for any of them. every thing is given to them, and i dont see them doing anything for others. out of sight of cameras.
both should be punished, and more then a fine.

I’m a Steeler fan and really do not believe Rogers deserved a multigsme suspension, but he shpuld have gotten something. If GODell’s gonna hand out 4-6 game suspensions when a criminal investigator finds no reason to even file charges how on Earth does GODell rationalize suspending anyone on a he said-she said claim ?
GODell first stated Ben’s suspension was determined because a “pattern of behavior…”. Yet, he admitted that the Reno suit was more or less a sham. So youre suspending him because of a motorcycle accident and the very conflicting accounts of acdrunken party girl?
GODell will prove to be the Jimmy Carter of NFL commissioners…the guy has no clue!

Ben Roethlisberger wasn’t charged with rape in the Nevada case. He simply was invovled in a rape accusation in the Nevada case.
You see, you can dress it up however you want, but the s**t still stinks.

I am pleasantly surprised to find that having a candid discussion of the inequities of punishments handed out by the NFL has spiraled into a putrid swill of rape jokes and low-brow insults.
You can call the Browns-Steelers rivalry a lot of things, but above a 6th grade level is certainly not one of them.
Quick side note, the one debate that comes up, the “insult Iron City Beer to inflame steelers fans” is no debate, Great Lakes Brewery absolutely demolishes any Pennsylvania beer. I do like Yuengling, however.

This Steeler fan is “over” it.
Ben was suspended for bad conduct, or, not conducting himself like a good little endorsement shill is supposed to. The NFL did not suspend him for rape or sexual assault . To do that, they would have to at least have charges filed or a guilty plea or a conviction, in which case he would be in prison. His known actions that night though, are tarnishing enough to warrant a suspension.
Now, Shaun Rogers’ bad conduct also includes a sexual assault accusation, and similarly it looks like the woman in that case was after a quick payday as well. Or Rogers paid her to go away. Whatever. Tack on to that he has a prior 4 game suspension for substance violations. Now you have a documented multiple offender.
The folks in here harping on this are justified in their questioning of the sentence, but I repeat…good for the Browns. Rodgers dodged the Roger. It’s now up to him to not make a fool out of the Roger for giving him a pass.

To all of you bitching and comparing this to what big ben did and was suspended for, think about it for a second. Shaun Rogers wasn’t planning on hijacking the plane or shooting someone in the airport. In Goodell’s opinion Rogers f’d up, but it’s not really a huge deal when you think about it. He had no intent to do something wrong with the gun, so he got a fine. Get over it.

Ok, now, close your eyes in Time-to-Kill style. Forget team allegiences. Then weigh Rodgers actions against those of 6’5, 240 lbs man sexually forcing himself upon a 5’6, 120 lbs. woman who is wasted out of her mind, due in part, to the specific actions of the 6’5, 240 lbs man.
Rodgers actions aren’t even close to as horrific. Not even in the hypothetic example that he “planned” the whole thing. This isn’t white or black. It’s not Steelers or Browns. It’s not even really Rodgers or Roethlisberger.
It’s incident 1 vs. incident 2.
Incident 2 is illegal, therefore punishable by the law, and the league.
Incident 1 is such a disgusting, sad, and evil portrayal of what human beings are capable of.
Incident 1 had a man callously, selfishly, and arrogantly rip the integrity, self-esteem, self-worth, self-perception, safety, and honor for about 19 seconds of, “wow, this feels pretty good.”
If you think either it didn’t happen simply because he wasn’t charged, or that Incident 2 is even remotely comparable to Incident 1, you have your f*cking head in the sand, and futher dwindle my hope for the future direction of our society.

I could point out all of Ben’s charity work and what he done for police departments throughout the country, etc… I could point out how poor, starving, flood ravaged people in Pakistan are being saved as we speak by members of the Taliban.

although i agree with the “personal conduct policy” in general, the punishments do seem totally random. Or worse, influenced by the quality and quantity of bad publicity. Even the on-field actions like Suh’s will get punished randomly. Noone can predict it.
Not Goodells fault. Owners fault for not deciding on recommended standards like legislators do when they pass laws.

Shaun Rogers does not deserve a fine. He does not deserve to be punished at all. He was carrying a gun in order to stop terrorists from taking over his flight, and possibly hurting innocent Americans.
Shaun Rogers is a true American Hero, and deserves a medal, and our thanks.
Ben Roethlisberger is a terrorist of 20 year-old women. That only makes him a hero in western PA.
Big difference.
