Chargers downsize to 75

The San Diego Chargers have announced their various roster moves in an effort to get the squad down to 75 players.

Gone are running back Marcus Mason, receiver Gary Banks, guard Lee Grimes, and linebacker Darry Beckwith.  Also, the team placed linebacker Donald Butler, a third-round pick from the 2010 draft, on injured reserve with an Achilles injury.

Mason appeared in 10 games for the Redskins in 2009, rushing for 127 yards on 32 carries.

Meanwhile, the Chargers announced that punter Glenn Pakulak has been signed.  He appeared in two games last season for the Redskins.  The team apparently hopes to give veteran Mike Scifres, who punted for the first time in the preseason during Friday’s third exhibition game, the night off when the Chargers close out the non-game games against the 49ers on Thursday night.

They’ll downsize out out of the playoffs if they don’t sign Jackson and McNeil.

$50 says dozens of Skins fans comment that Shanahan should bring back Mason, the sure-fire future HOF’er. And hell, they probably should.

The same skin fans that rip on other fans, yet don dresses, lipstick and call themselves, Hoggette’s? Yeah, you’re right, I can see them saying something that dumb.

@petro: Hardly. They can scheme to protect Rivers, and Mathews will take some of the pressure off of the WR corps. Now they have a real RB… bwahahahaha.
