In the end, Clemens hasn’t been traded or cut. Per Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Clemens has agreed to a reduced salary in order to remain with the team.
A restricted free agent in 2010, Clemens was due to earn $1.176 million.
As Rosenthal previously pointed out, the Jets also have released Kevin O’Connell, a third-round pick of the Pats who was cut last year by New England, claimed by the Lions, traded to the Jets, and then named a captain when the Jets played the Patriots in Week Two.
O’Connell again will be exposed to waivers; last year, the Lions, Broncos, Browns, and Jets submitted claims for his services.
Good idea. Sanchez might flop bad, they need an insurance policy.

Zona, Raiders, Bills, Browns, Steelers, Jags, Broncos, Raiders, Bears, Vikings, Panthers, Seahawks.
Although I like Brunell as a mentor to the Sanchize, I think if Sanchez goes down the Jets would be better off with Clemens behind center

I have no gripe with the Jets but seriously, Sanchez had a lot of flaws last year and Defensive coordinators will have tons more tape to see how to handle this guy. He only played 16 college games which is about a season plus total. If it’s one things teams do in the NFL, it’s that they watch tons of film. Super Bowl caliber teams need a QB that can make plays. Sanchez won’t make enough of them.

The only things the Jets are ahead of the Dolphins are hype and (admittedly) defense (based on last year). Correction, they are also ahead in signing unproductive has beens (Thomas will be a Jet soon to add to that total). I admit the Jets have a more recent playoff win but if they played Indy and Cincy earlier in the year, the Jets would have been 7-9, behind the Dolphins, with no chance for the Chargers kicker to gift them an AFC Championship game berth. They lucked into the playoffs and then made the most of it. That shouldn’t make them “favorites” for anything this year. Once again the Jets fans have their hopes up…the higher they get, the worse the inevitable disappointment will be. Don’t sleep on the Bills…you might get 4th place
