Work release request denied for Plaxico Burress

Earlier this month, the New York Post, relying only on an unnamed person who had visited former Steelers and Giants receiver Plaxico Burress in jail, reported that Burress could soon be placed into work release.

A source close to Burress told us the report was “bogus.” (Then again, perhaps it was a hoax. Yeah, we’re gonna milk that cow for a while.)

As it turns out, the report was bogus. (Or a hoax.) The Associated Press reports that the New York Department of Correctional Services has rejected Burress’ request, for the second time since he began serving his sentence in September 2009.

The denial reportedly resulted from the nature of the crime; Burress was carrying a loaded weapon in a Manhattan nightclub. The gun discharged, striking Burress in the leg.

He’ll be unable to reapply again before his sentence ends. Burress may appeal the decision, if he so chooses.
