NFL investigating Brandon Spikes video

A sex tape featuring Patriots rookie linebacker Brandon Spikes has been posted on the Internet, and the NFL says it is investigating.

We are looking into it,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed to Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com.

Making a sex tape could be considered “conduct detrimental to the integrity of and public confidence in the National Football League,” which the NFL’s personal conduct policy prohibits. But Spikes’ agent, Terry Watson, said the sex tape was made before Spikes was an NFL player.

“It was something that occurred before he became an NFL draftee and a New England Patriot. I think for anyone it would be an embarrassing situation,” Watson said. “Brandon has shown to many people the kind of person he is before and after being drafted in the second round. He’s hoping to put this behind him and looks forward to having a great football season.”

Spikes was an excellent linebacker at Florida, although he’s probably best known for an ugly incident last year when he gouged the eyes of Georgia’s Washaun Ealey. Spikes has started all three of the Patriots’ preseason games.

Goodell the Jets fan will definitely suspend him for week 2 even though it happened before he was in the NFL.

  2. Kane says: Sep 1, 2010 7:54 AM

Umm…so now the shocking idea that players get it on with attractive young ladies in their spare time is going to tarnish the league’s image? WTF?
I don’t get how this guy did anything wrong (except be fool enough to trust that other chatroulette users would follow the no-taping rules).

  3. Laxer37 says: Sep 1, 2010 8:08 AM

I heard the girl he’s nailing in the video is Tom Brady.

  4. TheDPR says: Sep 1, 2010 8:13 AM

I don’t see the problem here. If everyone in the vid was a consenting adult, what’s the issue?
I don’t think the NFL has thought this quite through.
College kids, especially the athletes, have sex ALL THE TIME. So it was filmed and the tape was leaked. So freaking what?

  5. Saintsarebest says: Sep 1, 2010 8:16 AM

Good thing my saints don’t do anything like this! We are the class of NFL. Greatest team ever! Unlike the packers and patriots worst teams ever and a bunch of thugs!

If it happened before he was in the NFL then what’s the problem?

  7. PFTiswhatitis says: Sep 1, 2010 8:17 AM

How can the NFL penalize the guy for something he did pre-NFL? If they were going to do that then they should have hit him up before the draft. Besides an eye-gouge on the field is worse than getting your freak-on off the field and the league knew all about that incident.

I think now we know that Spikes didn’t intentionally pick Ealey with his finger. Obviously, he just accidentally poked him with his giant…

  10. mac1515 says: Sep 1, 2010 8:20 AM

so why isnt tebow being investigated? can you not see his face?

  11. DonTerrelli says: Sep 1, 2010 8:21 AM

I’ll bet the league office is investigating it verrrrry closely, over and over again.

This really gets to me! So now NFL players have to be like these boring homogenized politicians who try to act in the expected pseudo conventional moral correctness all the time when they are growing up so they won’t **** up their NFL careers. Geezzz. The NFL is getting so kind of moralistic and puritanical. Its too much. If he gets suspended by the NFL for this then I think it is blow to everyone. This code of conduct thing is pretty suspect in a lot of ways. It just seems like behavior control with this whole morality thing thrown just for the sake of the league image. Politics and money. What gives them the right really? Isn’t it our game. All the fans. Its not a morality play. It feels a little like an intrusive abuse of these players lives.

Only if you believe that he can’t learn. The guy didn’t stab anyone or beat on his gf and he wasn’t involved in illegal activities. So far he gets the benefit of the doubt.
But if he gets busted doing something from this point onward he will lose all credibility and regardless of what he does on the field his value will float in the toilet.

  22. username says: Sep 1, 2010 8:49 AM

Let me get this straight…the league is looking into
a college student who sent video of him having sex to someone who wanted to view the images.
but the league is NOT looking into
an active QB who sends photos of his dick to someone who did not want to recieve them.

@Saintsarebest , Yes the Saints are so clean only your coaching staff raids the drug cabinet.
And what about having sex makes someone a thug ? I guess almost everyone on the planet qualifies as a thug in your eye. Maybe some day you’ll get out of Mommie’s basement and have sex with someone other than a webcam girl, then you can be a thug too !

  24. Chapnasty. says: Sep 1, 2010 8:58 AM

Yeah I am pretty sure this is pointless. Just because some broad is trying to extort money out of the guy doesn’t mean he has done anything to the NFL. I mean Vick tortured dogs, ran an interstate gambling ring, passed on herpes. Big Ben rapes women after getting them intoxicated. Dante Stallworth accidentally kills a man. Numerous others take PED’s and beat their wives. I really don’t care if a dude got laid and found a girl freaky enough to let him tape it. Good for him.

  25. JoeSixPack says: Sep 1, 2010 8:59 AM

So Commissioner Goodell is interested in “looking in” to the tape?
Here’s betting that he gets more interested… and then even more interested… and then really interested… and then REALLY interested…
… and then not so interested
until a few hours later when he’ll probably feel a need to investigate again

If Brandon Spikes had taped himself doing Dolly the blow-up doll with those overly full circular lips & wonderfully smooth beach ball-like skin texture this witchhunt wouldn’t be happening.

  31. Patsfan83 says: Sep 1, 2010 9:29 AM

  32. jj jones says: Sep 1, 2010 9:29 AM

The girl in the video is actually Gary Danielson

  33. Richm2257 says: Sep 1, 2010 9:30 AM

Well, if he was in a locked bathroom, having “consensual” sex with a drunken, underage college student, after having won two Super Bowls by the age of 28, that videotape might have been very useful.
Otherwise he’s just a college athlete gettin’ a little poontang – she’s not crying “sexual assault”, is she? – and allowed it to be filmed.
By the way, username is right on the money: if the league investigates this without investigating Brett “Captain Crocs” Favre’s recent allegation, they are showing a very clear bias. Spikes might well have some legal redress.

Maybe the league should go back and investigate the allegations of Peyton Manning flashing a female trainer while they are at it?
Spikes was monumentally stupid for doing this, but it was before he was an NFL player. How do they have any standing.
Also, when did the NFL become the bedroom police? It is one thing to go after a player for engaging in illegal activities by fining and/or suspending them. But no matter what you think of the incident, Spikes committed no crime.

  41. steveinohio says: Sep 1, 2010 10:12 AM

It is none of the NFL’s business. The guy is short sided because he cost himself possible future endorsement deals, but who cares.

  42. footballnut says: Sep 1, 2010 10:14 AM

Matt Walsh could only dream of making such a film…
Hats of to Spikes as from what I hear the girl is a smoke show. And no it’s not Doc’s daughter.
Never even heard of this site until yesterday and the bigger question is when was this made. Before he was drafted? It shouldn’t even be in the mind of the NFL.
And LunarPie needs a life if he thinks having sex with a hot, consenting, of age woman.

  43. Grulks says: Sep 1, 2010 10:26 AM

I hope the league doesn’t suspend him if it did in fact happen before he was in the NFL. If people are going to be held accountable for their behavior prior to entering the NFL, then the NFL needs explicitly define everything that a player can be held accountable for.
That being said, I have to say that the NFL is showing the correct form of action by saying they are looking into it, if for no other reason than to cover their ass, and to show that they have a “hey look, we’re cracking down on the BS” attitude. Still, if it is determined that this happened before he became a player in the NFL, the league needs to say that, and as such, they have no jurisdiction over it.

  44. FinsUp says: Sep 1, 2010 10:27 AM

These guys should videotape all their sexual encounters. That tape might be the piece of evidence that acquits them of rape one day.

  45. FinFan68 says: Sep 1, 2010 10:28 AM

It is ironic that a video tape incident is effecting the Patriots, but there is nothing to look into. He did this before he was a part of the NFL. How can you punish someone (as an employer) for something they did legally prior to their employment? Goodell is going to talk to Spikes and that is all…and even that is too far for the NFL to go

    ________________________________
uhhhh yeah. Former Jets employee Goodell is REALLY a Pats puppet when the Pats got the single worst penalty for any rules violation ever levied on them. If you didn’t see any of those tapes that’s your own fault because parts of them were played on national tv.
    Dolt.
As for Spikes, it’s no big deal to me what consensual adults do sexually. It doesn’t warrant a suspension.

  48. superb owl says: Sep 1, 2010 11:10 AM

stuff before the nfl counts. it speaks to judgment. employers in the real world do not discount what happened with you before they hire you.
remember the case of the ghetto rat ballplayer who humped his biological sister?
