Report: Haynesworth may be inactive in Week One

Mike Shanahan’s quest to show Albert Haynesworth who’s boss has not ended yet.

While most Redskins starters sit out or barely play in Thursday’s preseason finale, Haynesworth will play and could see a big workload, according to Jason La Canfora of NFL Network.

Fair enough. The guy missed the whole offseason and has to catch up on work.  Shanahan may not stop there, however.

La Canfora says the a member of Shanahan’s staff told him Haynesworth could be deactivated in Week One against the Cowboys.  No matter what you think about Haynesworth, this is good news for Dallas.

We watched Haynesworth closely last week during an up-and-down performance.  He struggled on some running plays, but he also ended one Jets drive by himself with two good plays in a row.

Sitting Haynesworth in Week One won’t help Shanahan’s chances of winning.  And that’s why we don’t believe it will happen.

Cowboys O line is having a group prayer

  3. turgid says: Sep 1, 2010 3:07 PM

La Canfora is a dork . Even with the new regime in place at Redskins park he doesn’t get reliable info because Danny Boy Snyder doesn’t like him. He was constantly given misinformation when he was a Redskins beat reporter.
And on that note, we should be seeing another idiotic post from Boyrsroll concerning this article.

  4. Philly Cheese says: Sep 1, 2010 3:08 PM

No big deal, just a divisional game.
If Shanahan benches him to make a point he should be fired on the spot.

  5. BigMikeSkinsFan says: Sep 1, 2010 3:10 PM

that is complete and total BS. you are making up stuff now just to keep the haynesworth story going.
he has buried the hatchet with shan, he has shown that he is willing to do the work, is happy about his increased work load with the team and is putting forth his best effort.
stop slandering players and teams just because you need to fill up space on this site.

  6. Skinsfan says: Sep 1, 2010 3:11 PM

Haynesworth will not sit week one. Its not going to happen. This is a non story.

  7. Hail 2 Dan Snyder says: Sep 1, 2010 3:11 PM

    This CAN NOT be true!!
Josh Mcdaniels tried the same tough guy approach with B.Marshall last game of the season and blew up in his face like an over shaken soda can. Season is over if Shanny does this

  8. FinFan68 says: Sep 1, 2010 3:11 PM

I hope he does sit him week 1. It should prove to Shamesworth that he needs to EARN the money he has been paid. Benching him is better than watching him half-ass it through the games

Mike Wise was right. You’ll post anything.

  10. metigger99 says: Sep 1, 2010 3:14 PM

are you kidding me? first its Donovan and now Haynesworth… look for one, dallas is not buying any of this crap. second, haynesworth has been practicing are they really going to do this now to him. They will never have him in anyway again if they now pull this.
I am a redskin fan, but i am starting to wonder alittle about this coach?
Redskins – please get a good running back and a YOUNG reciever otherwise we are once again, the same OLD skins!!!

Does anyone else find it funny that Florio barely, if ever wants to be the one that writes anything negative about the racistskins? He kind of has to because everything the racistskins do noteworthy is either bumbling, stupid, head-scratching, or laughable, which is basically there organization in a nutshell under Dan snyder.

  14. Simon12345 says: Sep 1, 2010 3:18 PM

    You guys sound like marks.
Shanahan says that McNabb might not play the first game.
A member of Rat Face’s staff says Fat Albert will be deactivated game one.
There is no way they sit Haynesworth that first game. Shanahan is playing you guys like a fiddle with his “leaked information.”
I hope the Cowboys prepare for that game assuming Grossman will start and Haynesworth sits….though, I don’t think they are STUPID enough to believe it like the media or fans.

  15. titlesong says: Sep 1, 2010 3:19 PM

It’s pretty well understood in the DC sports scene that the Redskins will, at times, screw around with LaCanfora, so this does not surprise me, nor does the fact that JLC keeps falling for it.
How he got the NFL gig based on his work at the Post is beyond most observers. He was a hack, is a hack, and will always be a hack. The only worse beat writer is his replacement, Jason Reid.
So, no chance AH is inactive, it’s just the Snyder goons trying (And succeeding) in lowering JLC’s already subterranean credibility.

  16. mad555 says: Sep 1, 2010 3:20 PM

The Racist Foreskins have been the laughing stock of the league for the past 11 years! When you bring in big name free agents, pay them enough money to support their entire family tree for generations, and then release them the very next year because they do not produce wins, that is pretty damn funny. Then they fire an incompetent GM and Coach, bring in new dopes, say they are not going to sign big name free agents and want to build a team the right way and then what do they do? Sign and trade for OLD big name free agents that most likely will under perform, get released, and start all over again. It must suck to feel like you are in a bad Ground hog’s day movie, but instead of a day, it’s an entire year for your pathetic team to suffer and know it’s going to be the same thing next year. Andy thought he was going to do Don a favor by not trading him to the raiders, but instead he sent him to the far more pathetic team that doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell to make it to the playoffs, let alone out of the cellar of the NFC East. At least Don would have had a glimmer of hope to succeed in Oakland. But hey, there’s always next year, right?…
    HAHAHA
Thank god the team isn’t called the blackskins, then they really would have an image problem :s …not that they are the gold standard when it comes to making football decisions, or excuting, or playing, or anything related to football for that matter. Well at least they have Mike Florio as a fan…:} Maybe he can pick them to win the division again.

Thats not showing who is Boss. Shanahan has lived off of Elways & Davis backs to long. Once both of them were gone, he was 8 & 8. Doing this is not giving the team the best chance to win, then even a big dumb spender like Synder should take notice of the guy he hired to win games not prove a point of I’m the Big guy here. Shanahan is a joke.

Did Dan Snyder steal Mad555′s land or something? What was all that racist stuff about? It’s not like anyone affiliated with the Skins named the team. There is a reason the Skins are considered the second most valuable franchise in all of sport, and it isn’t becasue they are pathetic. Keep on hating loser.

  36. myopinionisrighterthanyours says: Sep 1, 2010 4:26 PM

Wow, you guys don’t read do you. First off, this is coming straight from LaCanfora. Secondly, to the one or two idiots mentioning Mike’s name might want to look and see that Rosenthal posted this. And thirdly, for everybody saying Redskins rumors and anti-Redskins, reread the last paragraph, please:
Sitting Haynesworth in Week One won’t help Shanahan’s chances of winning. And that’s why we don’t believe it will happen.

  37. Big J says: Sep 1, 2010 4:29 PM

  40. MaximaWSE says: Sep 1, 2010 4:51 PM

La Canfora has been wrong about every single story regarding the Redskins since he left the post.
Of course Haynesworth will be inactive, according to La Crap he was traded to Minnesota during the Draft.

  41. Visible says: Sep 1, 2010 4:53 PM

Shanahan will not succeed in Washington. That style of coaching does not work. Haynesworth is a Pro-Bowl DT and a game changer. This reminds me of when Rod Marinelli wanted to make an example by getting rid of Shaun Rogers and Dre Bly. The only two players to ever make the pro bowl for Detroit were shipped out. The result was 0-16. So while Shanahan continues to use this antiquated approach, it will only lead to his own firing.
Oh…and how many playoff wins does Shanahan have w/out Elway??? Exactly. Another TERRIBLE move by the Redskins.

  42. spytdi says: Sep 1, 2010 5:10 PM

Gurode owns this guy. That’s the only reason Haynesworth stomped on his head. Roll that fat pig out on the field, we’ll take him and his contract on any day of the week. No way Dan Snyder pays for his contract and McFlabb’s to have them sit against Dallas. That’s why he hires these bozos.

  43. jamaltimore says: Sep 1, 2010 5:28 PM

Can’t wait to listen to talk radio when skins lose at home in week one to the hated cowboys. For all the talk they’ll be already down on the leprachaun and looking to what free agent they can sign for next year. By week 8 vinny will be brought back in as the advisor to Danny on how to deal with things and the Cowher watch will begin. By week 10 they fire the offensive coordinator, shanny’s son and then all hell breaks loose.
    FAIL SKINS

  48. tajones58 says: Sep 1, 2010 5:42 PM

Jason La Canfora had NO sources when he was the Redskin beat reporter!!! This doesn’t pass the smell test and is just another job of posting BS. Can you guys please interview La Canfora after Haynesworth is not on the inactive list? Can we start holding these guys responsible for lousy and irresponsible reporting when they are wrong? If Mike Wise had said he had sources who said Ben would get 5 games it wouldn’t even be a problem. I have a source who says La Canfora is no better reporter then when he was in Washington. Post that please, it’s the TRUTH!

  49. mad555 says: Sep 1, 2010 5:44 PM

Actually AlphaQ2 they are not 2nd most Valuable franchise. If you are going by the (dart throwing while blindfold statistic), Forbes Mag,. The cowgirls are 2nd most valuable franchise IN SPORTS. They would be “considered” a valuable franchise, (which I question) not because they are a pathetic team(which they are, and everything they have done in the past 11+ years have proved this as FACT), the reason they would be a valuable franchise is because their fans are pathetic losers that keep giving them money for the team to put a laughable, pathetic product on the field. The word redskin is a racist word and they embrace that whole theme and not one of them are even American Indian. Now that is some serious ignorant shit right there.

Let’s see, Shanny is not stupid. Our Nose Tackle had a hard time against the run the last two preseason games…. Albert struggled against the run a bit, but was a force either way. He is still learning the defense, but has shown glimpses of what our D-Line could be this year if they all are on the same page. We have the best chance of winning when he is on the field and involved. Sit him week one against the Cowboys at their home, I truly do not think so. We have the best chance of winning when he is on the field. Shanny won’t be stupid and he will put the team in the best position to win the game. I can’t believe we are even on this subject.
