Down goes Leftwich

Mike Tomlin’s decision between Byron Leftwich and Dennis Dixon as the team’s interim starter may have gotten a lot easier.

Leftwich suffered a knee injury during the second quarter of Thursday night’s preseason game against the Panthers.  Per play-by-play man Bob Pompeani of KDKA-TV, it “didn’t look good.”

Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Leftwich was taken to a local hospital for an MRI.

If Leftwich won’t be able to play in Week One, the Steelers will have Dixon and Charlie Batch at quarterback.

For the night, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger started the game, completing four of six passes for 39 yards.  Leftwich completed two of four for 43, and Dixon connected on the only pass he threw for a 23-yard touchdown.

    Bad news, Dennis Dixon is not good. This would be non-news if Ben could stop raping people but unfortunately he can’t keep it in his pants. Hopefully we aren’t the ones getting raped with Dixon at QB.

    Jeff George. It’s only for a month, how bad could it be?

  3. downwithdansnyder says: Sep 2, 2010 9:23 PM

    They are still better off (and let’s hope that Leftwich is ok, cause he seems like a good guy) than the Cards. Boy are the cards hosed. I’m a ‘Skins fan so it’s hard to throw rocks in a glass house, but boy the Cards screwed up by not getting McNab. IT makes all the difference.

    WOW very sad for Leftwich, has always been a really tough guy!! Lets hope the commish does’t go soft on Capt Anal Rape because of this.

    JaMarcus Russell is available! If only Ben could learn NO means NO and stop RAPING women.

    BigBear123 you hit the nail on the head there!!!

  10. Rat says: Sep 2, 2010 9:34 PM

    Why’d Leftwich leave the game? His linemen should have lifted him up and down the field.

  11. spyboots says: Sep 2, 2010 9:35 PM

    Keep in mind that Dixon had not worked with the first team before his start last week and also the WRs were trying out different positions and routes than they were previously, at least that’s what I read.
    @ Big Bear: Uh-oh. That’ll come back to bite ya in the a$$.

    I think Karma just reared its ugly head, just like Little Ben peaked out in that bar in GA.
    I hope Goodell keeps the suspension at 6 games and the Stoolers miss the playoffs again. It’s called justice and Ben deserves as much of it as karma can deliver.

  14. 49er Man says: Sep 2, 2010 9:43 PM

    Yes, Leftwich knows the system better than Dixon but in this system, Dixon is a better fit as he provides a lot more mobility than Leftwich, knee injury or not. Byron was terrible for the Bucs last year and was benched for Freeman, a rookie last year,. Ouch..

    You are so right break his leg or arm or his little ben because it has to be little you have to be a man to have a big one and you know he is not a man I was so happy that he couldn’t even score a td I’ll say it again if there is a GOD Ben will get hurt and get out of my life
    I am from Pgh and a steeler fan but hate his guts

  20. Macadamia says: Sep 2, 2010 9:57 PM

    So Stillerz you’ll have your starting Rapist on suspension, a statue on the injury list, a tease with the IQ of a rock starting and a geriatric backup. Good luck with that.

  21. Jack Burton says: Sep 2, 2010 9:58 PM

    Hopefully Dixon makes the most of this chance, it’s his job to lose at this point.
    I think Batch is a great QB but if he has to play more than a handful of series in that 4-6 game stretch he’s done for.

  22. steeelfann says: Sep 2, 2010 9:59 PM

    Charlie Batch and that defense can go 3-1 till Ben gets back.
    Question is, if Leftwich is out, and I mean out – out, then do the Steelers sign a number 3. And I don’t mean Fat Jamarcus, but rather, a real NFL QB? Hell, Leinhert or whatever is starting to smell fresher.

  23. Deb says: Sep 2, 2010 10:03 PM

    @flvikesfan and BigBear123 …
    The medical exam in Georgia showed Ms. DTF never had intercourse with anyone that night–as I’m sure you’ve both heard by now. That’s why Roethlisberger wasn’t charged. And the Nevada woman texted friends she wanted to see him again–texts are on file with the court. Sure you’ve heard that, too.
    So you’re both just evil pricks wishing injury on a good athlete who’s never done anything worse than act like a frat boy. What goes around comes around. You’ll both get yours.

  24. Deb says: Sep 2, 2010 10:06 PM

    @Steeler79 …
    The Browns are looking for a few good men. Unfortunately no one has seen any, so we’ll just send them you.
    According to the authorities, Ben didn’t rape anyone. Try acting your age, 79.

    That actually means he isn’t great

  26. LJ says: Sep 2, 2010 10:09 PM

    Roethlisberger (spelling, whatever), will get an easier sentence. No more than four games, maybe less. Ambasador Rooney is actually flying in from Ireland and going to the meeting with him. WTF is up w/ that? Is that his daddy? Leave the man to face the music himself. The NFL sure looks crooked sometimes. If this falls in dickweed’s favor it will add fuel to the fire. The Browns have given the Steelers like 56 years to catch up and they still only have six championships. I think we’re going to go ahead and begin to pull away again ’cause we’re tired of waiting. Steelers look like shit this preseason and it’s leaning towards getting worse during the regular season. No line, no QB. Hm…. Cool.

  27. aaronp says: Sep 2, 2010 10:10 PM

    Dennis Dixon is a poor man’s Vince Young…And considering he had 1 o.k year (rookie yr) and last year had the leading rusher in the league…Yeah nothing to get happy about but Byron at least plays a traditional QB and sits back in throw. Of course that’s because I might be able to beat him in the 40 but still at least Wallace can go deep and have Ward and the Miller to work the middle

  28. Poo Flinging Monkey says: Sep 2, 2010 10:15 PM

    In a touching show of support, Ben rode in the ambulance with Leftwich to the hospital. There he raped his unconscious teammate, not once but twice.

  30. furio says: Sep 2, 2010 10:20 PM

    Ha, the pillsbury dough boy got hurt-again!!!! What a shock. Both Dixon and Crapwich are brutal. 3rd stringers at best. Steelers better find something off the scrap heap, and fast.

  31. mos says: Sep 2, 2010 10:31 PM

    @LJ
    The rest of the haters and yourself – seriously?
    Have you seen Goodell’s lack of discipline lately?
    Assault people? ok Bring a loaded gun to the airport? ok But get accused of a crime then cleared – six games!!!! Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!
    To suggest a reduction would add fuel to the fire is ridiculous at best – if he does not reduce the suspension, that is ridiculous.
    If Goodell was going to turn into Taglibue (sp?) over the summer, he should have left discipline to the Steelers and the Rooneys. they would have given him 2 games – settled it in house and been done with it.

  32. Deb says: Sep 2, 2010 11:24 PM

    LJ …
    It’s Art II, doofus–he’s been in charge of the team for some time now, not Ambassador Rooney. Have you been inhaling fumes from the burning river?
    @southFLAsteel …
    That’s hysterical. I still have a life. Just gave up Facebook ;)
    GO STEELERS!!!!!!!!!!

    A fat girl joke? Really? That’s the best you can do? (She rolls her eyes.) Aw, you poor lil thing LOL
    But what more could we expect from a boy who nearly pisses himself over “this would be non-news if Ben could stop raping people”?
    Don’t forget your lunch money, sweetie.
