Ken Whisenhunt plans to play Matt Leinart Thursday

We’re not sure if Matt Leinart is crazy or crazy like a fox, but it looks like he’ll get at least one more chance to display his wares as a member of the Arizona Cardinals.

Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic points out that Ken Whisenhunt still plans to play Leinart Thursday night as Derek Anderson’s backup.  It’s possible the plan could change, but it looks like Cardinals fans can proudly wear their No. 7 jerseys to the stadium one more time.

The Cardinals risk seeing Leinart get hurt, which would make him untradeable and expensive at the same time.  Somers indicates the Cardinals are still considering keeping Leinart as a backup in Arizona.

  1. maybe whiz knows leinart better than people think.
leinart just might play better if he has to ride to the rescue.

  2. Problem clearly is that potential trading partners will get to see him suck one more time. The UFL beckons.

  3. How can the team consider keeping him as a backup but “supposedly” talking him up as trade bait to other teams? Either Kent Somers or Adam Schefter is lying.

  4. “Cardinals fans can proudly wear their No. 7 jerseys to the stadium one more time.”

Who is your fact checker? Cardinals fans may have Fitz, Wells, or Hightower jerseys, or may still have Warner or Bolden jerseys. But Cardinals fans do NOT have No. 7 jerseys, and even if they did, the odds of “proudly wearing” them at this juncture is vanishingly small.

  5. Risk injury? He really doesn’t have any trade value as it is. Its hard to do any more damage. It’s quite possible that he could perform well and gain some trade value. Play him!

  6. wasnt that 7 a 10 awhile back?
i dont think the cards players would get sucked into a leinart tantrum.

  7. It will be interesting to see Leinart play ” bombs away” and prove he can throw the long ball. The question is whether his recievers will cooperate and risk getting their heads taken off on one of his floaters. Finally we will get to see Leinart play with back- to- the- wall intensity.

  8. The Cardinals could be considering keeping him, such as “should we keep him? nah?”. That’s considering. They may be playing him to showcase him for other teams.

  9. Name a bad move Whisenhunt has made in Az? The answer is none. He knows Lienart is a below average QB, came from USC where he got everything he wanted and was never critizied. Warner beat him out 3 years ago.

  10. What happens if Leinart gets hurt? They can’t trade him and if they cut an injured player, they are still responsible for his contract…at least part of it.

  11. Whisenhut just clearly hates him, Im just confused why he couldnt come to this decision until a week ago after coaching a guy for 3 years. Created a mess where there doesnt have to be. I cant wait to see the Whiz fall flat on his face. Humble Pie Whiz, enjoy it.

  12. I fail to see how a single preseason game is going to wipe out years of bad play. Sounds like they’re hoping he plays well enough to entice some desperate team into parting with a draft pick. I think they would be thrilled to get a 7th rounder for him at this point.

  13. I can’t believe how badly the Cardinals messed this situation up.
They should have started Leinart. He was playing just as good, if not better than Anderson anyway.
Then, if he struggles, you yank him and put Derek in. Leinart has no reason to bitch, he didn’t do anything with his chance to start.
INSTEAD, come Saturday they will have released Leinart, gotten nothing in return and be left with Anderson and no experienced back-ups at the most important position in sports. Yikes!

Try it this way: [sarcasm]Cardinals fans can proudly wear their No. 7 jerseys to the stadium one more time. [/sarcasm]
    See? Works better.

  15. Or maybe Whiz is just so irritated with him shooting off his mouth that he’s going to enjoy watching Leinart humiliate himself on TV one more time before they trade or cut him.

  16. I can’t believe all these Cardinals “fans” slamming Leinart. Do you idiots even know what you are talking about?
I will be laughing so hard once you start b!itching and crying 5 games into the season when you realize how crappy Anderson is.
Think about this…… Anderson got ran out of Cleveland. The Browns chose Jake Delhomme over Anderson. Has that sunk in yet?
The CLEVELAND BROWNS(about the most pathetic team in the NFL) chose JAKE DELHOMME (the worse QB in the league) over Anderson.
And you idiot fans are so ready to give up on Leinart for Anderson……… that makes Cardinals fans the stupidest in the league.(yes, I said STUPIDEST)

  17. Am I the only one who finds it odd that the title says he’ll play on Thursday and today is Thursday?

  18. the original draft had leinart fans wearing 10….so you change the story and refuse to post my correction….you lads are learning well from the obama media

  19. Nobody anywhere owns a Matt Leinart jersey. I don’t think Reebok would even be willing to manufacture one.

  20. Matt will end up being the starting QB for the majority of the upcoming season in Arizona. Bet your retirement home in the desert on that.

  21. Again with the “we” BULLSH-T!!
Man up and claim your opinions!!
If you weren’t being such a wimp, it would read like this………..”I’M not sure if Matt Leinart is crazy or crazy like a fox, but it looks like he’ll get at least one more chance to display his wares as a member of the Arizona Cardinals.”
The “WE” is some kind of pansy attempt to say what you want, right or wrong, without direct accountability. No?

  22. All 4 QBs will play tonight and the Cards may very well keep 4 QBs past Saturday. If some veteran they like comes available, then Leinart is likely gone. If not, this team endured Boldin, Dockett and Lutui. They will keep Leinart this year for $2.5 and dump/trade him before they have to pay him $7.5 next year.
