Rex Ryan sends warning: "Better hold on to the ball if you want to make our football team"

Jets running back Joe McKnight’s rough training camp took a turn for the worse on Thursday night during the team’s preseason finale.

The beleaguered rookie fumbled the ball in the first quarter after running into a blocker, and it was returned 64 yards by Eagles safety Kurt Coleman for a touchdown.

Late in the first half, John “The Terminator” Conner lost a fumble that was also returned for a touchdown.  By Kurt Coleman.

Asked about it by WCBS in New York at halftime, Jets coach Rex Ryan said it was “Ridiculous. . . . You better hold on to the ball if you want to make our football team.  We seem to be playing some defense tonight.  I’d like to keep them off the scoreboard on offense.”

We know Ryan’s pet project “The Terminator” is going to make the team, so it’s not difficult to figure out who Ryan is directing his message towards.

Maybe he could petition the NCAA for another year of college and go make some real money…

    @ Ice Cream
No… it doesn’t. Prior to his injury, Leon wanted roughly $5mm p/ year to remain a Jet; definitely not worth taking the gamble on after shattering his leg last season! As well, he really only returned kicks and served as a part-time RB, so there’s no reason to believe he would even hold up an entire season as a #1 RB.
As far as McKnight… he definitely looks like crap right now… personally, I think he needs a year on the practice squad to get his shit together.
Chauncey Washington and/ or Danny Woodhead will do fine as a #3 RB for the Jets

Fumbles are bad…but interceptions are perfectly acceptable

Ya know, there are 31 other head coaches in the NFL. What are they saying……
    What is Mike Smith saying?
    What is Kubiak saying?
Tell Rex to go suck an egg. His dad could not win with good talent and neither will Big Mouth Jr.

  9. Terrell Blowens says: Sep 2, 2010 10:46 PM

Holmes is a tool. At the end of the game Otis Livingston asked him about his suspension and he says “Hey, man, it’s an ankle injury” while grinning. Dumbass won’t even man up and admit his mistake.

jets fans please dont worry about the fumbles…
    you got mark (INT) SANCHEZ…

Okay, enough with the “Terminator” nickname, did anyone watch that movie?
John Conner was not the Terminator, John Conner was the kid destined to bring down Skynet when he grows up. Thus Skynet sent a Terminator to the past to kill his mother prior to his conception.
Calling the guy who kills Terminators a Terminator is an insult.

  12. Dustin Chandler says: Sep 2, 2010 10:50 PM

Kurt Coleman is the real terminator… of McKnight

I am still perplexed by the fact that everyone calls John Connor, the fullback, “the Terminator”. Yes, John Connor was a character in the Terminator however he was not the Terminator. Please stop calling him the Terminator.

Really? C’mon man! Who cares. This makes you guys seem almost as bad as those buffoons that dress up in star wars and star trek costumes

  16. JackBurden says: Sep 2, 2010 11:21 PM

    Those are the facts FinFan68…
    Just like this one:
Marino is a woman who in 16 years as a pro has a playoff record of 8-10. HOF my a$$, he was no better than Jeff George or some other chucker (like Costanza).
So when you wear your Dolphin Jersey who are you dressed as?

  17. Rhapsody says: Sep 2, 2010 11:26 PM

    John Connor terminated the Terminator!

  18. FinFan68 says: Sep 3, 2010 12:05 AM

I see you totally missed my point that nobody (well, almost nobody) on this site cares about the plot or character names of a movie from the early 80s. I see I must have hit a nerve. Based off of your last comment…you must ACTUALLY BE one of those buffoons that dress up in star wars/star trek costumes. Have fun at your next meeting in Las Vegas.

    @sabotslugs-
Geez man calm down what the hell do you care what people call him? You’re perplexed?? Let it go

  23. NFLisDEAD says: Sep 3, 2010 9:17 AM

The Jets look like total crap this year. To make matters worse for them, they enter this season arrogant, cocky, and big-headed. If San Diego hadn’t beat themselves in the playoffs would they even have the nerve to be cocky?
None-the-less… sorry Jets fans…. your team is on FAIL status this year…. and it won’t matter if Revis is playing or not.
Tell Rex Ryan to lose some friggin weight and quit worrying about looking cool on Hard Knocks. How can you spend your entire career and your entire work day around state of the art athletic equipment and be such a sack of shit.

  24. UrTeamBlowsgoats says: Sep 3, 2010 9:33 AM

@FinFan68 Why r u even on here? this is a Jets post. Go to ur own teams posts and commisirate with the other turds in the toilet bowl.

  25. Hugh Jorgan says: Sep 3, 2010 10:55 AM

    @ NFLisDEAD …
Yup, the Chargers lost that game… as a team. The Jets won that game… as a team. That tends to happen in most cases. Nice try.
If you put a post-it on your forehead with your name on it, maybe your wife will stop yelling “Rex” at that oh so crucial moment and you won’t have so much anger towards him anymore. Try it!
    You have serious anger issues.
    Run along now.

  26. JMC296 says: Sep 3, 2010 11:45 AM

Some of these comments are a little much. As an objective observer of the Jets, I think it’s gonna be a tough road ahead for the Jets. Just about everything went their way towards the end of last season. Ask anyone around the league or who is an actual football fan, that does not happen very often.

  27. JackBurden says: Sep 3, 2010 7:24 PM

Calling John Conner the Terminator is just a dumb thing to say. I don’t need to be a Sci-fi dweeb to follow a plot in a movie.
Phins suck. FinFan68 sucks too. Stay off the Jets posts, not welcome here.
