Brandon Jacobs: NFL is “a cutthroat, backstabbing business”

Giants running back Brandon Jacobs, apparently upset that Ahmad Bradshaw has leapfrogged him on the depth chart, reflected after Thursday night’s preseason finale on what he views as the harsh realities of being an NFL player.

No one’s your friend in this business,” Jacobs told ESPN.com. “This is a cutthroat, backstabbing business. That’s just the way it goes. It’s been like that before me. If you expect anything else out of a business like this, you’re crazy.”

After back-to-back seasons of more than 1,000 yards and 5.0 yards a carry, Jacobs signed a four-year, $25 million contract in February of 2009. Then his production slumped to 835 yards and 3.7 yards a carry.

And now Jacobs sounds unhappy, saying he doesn’t know what the Giants’ plans for him are this season.

“Nope, they don’t talk to me about anything,” Jacobs said. “They do what they do.”
