Technically, safety Jarrad Page put the Chiefs in a bind on Friday by signing his restricted free agency tender.
But it wasn’t a big bind.
In lieu of having to choose between cutting Page or someone else before 6:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, the Chiefs requested and received a roster exemption for Page.
The exemption covers the first two games of the regular season, meaning that he won’t count toward the 53-man roster. Unlike placement of the player on the roster exempt list, which the Chargers did with tackle Marcus McNeill and receiver Vincent Jackson, Page will be paid for the games he’ll be ineligible to play.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs will have two weeks to figure out what to do with him.
