Matt Leinart isn't pursuing a trade

The Cardinals and Matt Leinart continue to play a game of chicken.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that Matt Leinart isn’t pursuing a trade because he believes his best chance to start this year would be in Arizona.  The Cardinals, however, continue to gauge  interest in Leinart around the league.

This latest move by Leinart’s camp fits Florio’s theory from last night.  (We actually agree with this one.)  The Cardinals have no real interest in carrying four quarterbacks (or Leinart’s salary) and are just exhausting their opportunities to deal him.

Leinart wants to freely choose his next team and no team out there wants to deal with his whole contract.  Mort says he would still be surprised if Leinart isn’t traded or cut

We’d be surprised if he wasn’t cut.

Who is “we”? I always thought your “we” was sucking up to whatever Florio says. Now you are making it seem that there is a different “we”. Schizophrenia?

If you cant be the QB with Larry Fitzgerald as your #1…you cant be a QB in the NFL. Thats why no one will trade for him and thats why you would be stupid to sign him.

It would be stupid of him to pursue a trade… He will be installed as the starter as soon as they see how great Derek Clown Shoes is.

The Cards should try to trade for the Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck. The Seahawks are rebuilding. The Cardinals can be a contender with the right QB. When healthy, Hasselbeck is a playoff caliber QB. It takes some guts to trade with a division rival, but a Leinart / Hasselbeck trade makes sense. The Cards might have to give up a bit more than Leinart to make the deal happen.

    @ murray22
I don’t think the cards are going to be willing to trade draft picks in exchange for Hasselbeck. I think that the Seahawks should trade Hasselbeck while he still has some value, but Leinart is not in the same class as Hasselbeck.
The cards want him gone because his contract is too high. Since this has become public knowledge, there is no trade value for Leinart. If Seattle (or anyone else) wants him, they are going to wait for the Cards to release him.

Great point and he even had Boldin for a while there and Breaston as a 3 too.

Of course he wants to stay put, and all that says to the rest of the league is the guy is lazy. I think he earns 7mil for next season. Matt knows no one else will pay that amount for his services; so now (after saying he believes he is a starter and pouting on the sidelines) he wants to stay put…The Cards should get whatever they can for this guy even if it means paying the difference.

Not a bad idea in theory, but then the Seahawks would have to rush Whitehurst into the starter role, plus there’s the problem of what to do with Derek Anderson. I think Whis’ plan is to groom his rookies under the mediocre tutelage of DA.

Leinart doomed himself on draft day, when he openly wept over getting drafted to Arizona. A few days later he tried to damage control it with an interview where he basically said it wasn’t so bad, really.
I mean, c’mon.. Sure, that was before the Cards started making the playoffs but it’s still a million-dollar job in an NFL franchise and a hopper flight from his beloved LA. Plus Phoenix rolled out the red carpet for him..
Good riddance, I say. He never came close to living up to his own hype.

Sites like this get pretty boring — no, worse than that, mind boggling — if half the articles are written to refute previous articles. The state of journalism today. Just pass on rumors. PFT could try to break out of the mode. Why not actually check on a rumor independently before posting a rumor and then later posting the rumor that the rumor was wrong. These endless cycles of rumors refuting rumors make you sound busy, but what it actually means is you are LAZY. No real business would survive this way.
