Pats cut loose Damione Lewis

The New England Patriots have gotten a head start on their move to 53.

Per a league source, the Pats have parted ways with defensive tackle Damione Lewis.

Lewis, a first-round pick of the Rams in 2001, spent five years in St. Louis and four in Carolina before joining the Patriots in the offseason.

Lewis, who started 16 regular-season games in 2009 and 15 in 2008, instantly becomes an unrestricted free agent.

Vince Wilfork and who? The Pats are a lot of defensive question marks. Their DL is suspect at best. Their linebackers are young and their secondary is led by a second year CB from UCONN and a rookie CB from Rutgers. If new defensive coordinator, Bill Belichick, can win with this group I think he should be promoted.

Damn he must of really stunk up the joint to not make that swiss cheese Defense… then again he has been a Freaking bust since leaving the Canes

D is a shadow of it’s former self. Brady better score a lot (of points that is) to keep them in games.

So that they can sign him after week #1 and not have to guarantee his contract for the season.
Is that so hard for people to see?
btw, “Introducing the next team captain of the NYJets, Damione Lewis”

8 ball, what does it matter what college the guys played at? They are 1st and 2nd round picks. Cortland Finnegan is a really good CB and he played at Samson….Assante Samuel went to Central Florida. Dunta Robinson is from South Carolina who got waxed by UCONN is a bowl game last year. Dominique Rogers Cromartie is from Tenn St. I guess you wouldnt want any of them on your team either?
It was nothing to do with where they played. If they suck they suck regardless of where they went to school.

Kind of looked like that would be the case after seeing him only with the last string unit last night. He’s a good dude though, hope he lands somewhere else.

@ 8 ball – I think it’s safe to say the question marks have been answered……and the Pats front 7 is borderline terrible, with a few exceptions (Wilfork, Mayo, and I’ll go out on a limb and include Spikes with this group, although he’ll make his share of rookie mistakes).
The DL is terrible. Warren is out for the year. I suddenly would like to trade the Raiders pick back to them for Seymour……or at least wish we had held onto/resigned Jarvis Green.
Maybe things will change in the regular season (schemes, play calling, blitz packages, etc.) But, I don’t see this group getting it done. At least the offense is solid. Almost reminds me of the Colts teams we beat up years ago – they had a solid offense, poor defense. Their defense is much improved, and now we can’t beat them.

Jarvis Green was overpaid and under produced. He was a run coverage liability. Pass rush was his role in sub packages, but he has done virtually nothing the last few years. Let’s hope Brace finally gets it. The Pats will never pay Seymour what he thinks he is worth. He has never been the same since the injury playing fullback, but you can definitely see what he meant to the DL now that he is gone.
