Report: Leftwich out 2-4 weeks

Earlier today, MDS pointed out the existence of conflicting reports regarding the MCL sprain suffered by Steelers quaterback Byron Leftwich.

Now, Steelers beat writer extraordinaire Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Leftwich will miss two-to-four weeks as a result of the injury.

It means that Leftwich will miss half, three-fourths, or all of the games played without Ben Roethlisberger.

    well, now we know why Rooney was pushing for a 2 game suspension. I’ll give you a hint….it had nothing to do with Ben’s growth or maturity.

    Steeler nation must be breathing a sign of relief that they won’t have to suffer through the Pillsbury Dough Boy at QB.

    Lucky break. Some of the earlier reports made it sound like he was done for the year, in which case his career likely would have been over.

    Hey Florio, should they go get Jeff George yet?

    Those of us who think that Dixon is a great young talent with a huge future that should not be limited to Big Ben’s backup will now get a chance to see how he does under pressure.
    He reminds me of a little less athletic M. Vick but someone who can actually pass the football at an NFL level.

    So the truth lied somewhere between Morts overly optimistic appraisal and the other doom and gloom one from earlier. What a shock.

    I hope to see Charlie Batch start the games with some appearances by Dennis Dixon. Use Randle El or Hines Ward as the emergency QB. Until Ben and Byron get back.

    That makes no sense. So your saying he does nothing like Mike Vick, but he reminds you of him? It’s pretty easy to see why the Vick detractors are hard to take seriously.

    “Steelers beat writer extraordinaire”?
    Still a better writer and reporter than you Mike.

    so you’re saying he’s like Vick only b/c he’s black?

    News flash: any qb who relies on his legs to make plays will be a flop 99% of the time. The only one who was successful was Steve young and he was one heck of a passer.

    Immobile QB+Shaky O Line=Hurt Quarterback.
    In fact, it appears his own lineman ran into him.
    Batch, c’mon. He’s had more injuries than that Chris-tal Chandeleer. He got hurt in the airport last year lifting his luggage.
    For better or worse, it’s Dennis Dixon.

    Can Florio account for his whereabouts on the evening Leftwich was injured?

    End of story…
    I actually rather play Ben and put a beating on him

  26. Deb says: Sep 3, 2010 3:58 PM

    @Meldog and Chapnasty …
    Actually, you two nail-hitting geniuses, the report that Rooney was seeking a three–not two–game suspension came out hours BEFORE Leftwich was injured. The report turned out to be erroneous and was corrected.
    But you two never let facts get in the way of mouthing off. Why start now?

  27. AttackRaven says: Sep 3, 2010 3:58 PM

    The best thing about all of this is that Dixon WILL get hurt and they will be forced to bring Bradshaw back.

  28. robert ethen says: Sep 3, 2010 3:59 PM

    Yeah, no offense intended, I’m sure.
    There is an elderly “mobile and athletic” woman from Nigeria, who cleans the apartment complex down the street. She is the sweetest person you ever met.

    “Steelers beat writer extraordinaire Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette” ????
    Ed is the douchebag who changed his DROY vote from Jarius Byrd ( first vote) to Brian Cushing ( 2nd vote). The AP should fire him from its panel of 50 voters. The guy is an over the hill writer who is out of touch with reality.

    You’ve been dry lately, but that was a good one.
    @AttackRaven …
    Terry’s the Pittsburgh legend. A throwback #12 is the ONLY offensive jersey I’ve ever owned. Will always LOVE our Terry.
    (Pssst … if he comes back, tell Ray to give him one good sock in the mouth. Just one. Not too hard. But right in the mouth. Thank you :)

  32. Ravens Macg says: Sep 3, 2010 4:41 PM

    Teams will be able to game plan against Dixon. Squeelers start 0 & 4. Lil jen gets back they go 6 & 6. Out of the playoff hunt by the 12th week!!

  33. BoMeister says: Sep 3, 2010 4:59 PM

    They say local drive by media are shills for their local teams….Florio proves he can do it working nationally for GE/NBC/Sprint/Nextel/…..
    If ever there was a Squeelers shill, he is it. Strike Two! (Strike One was being a motor mouthed dago)

  34. Canyonero says: Sep 3, 2010 6:15 PM

    Hey Florio, I just thought of a way PFT can make a lot more money!!!
    Just charge a nickel every time somebody posts the word “rapist” in a Roethlisberger story comment section!
    Heck, charge a penny! You’ll still pull in the bucks!

  35. Meldog says: Sep 3, 2010 9:52 PM

    @deb
    You are right, I read the article wrong, but that doesn’t mean the point of my post was wrong.
    The phrase used in the previous article was “Art Rooney II accompanies quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to New York on Friday for a meeting that apparently consisted of Commissioner Roger Goodell getting one more chance to visit with Roethlisberger in order to confirm that he deserved a two-game reduction in his suspension”
    I read through it and posted that he was looking for a 2-game suspension. My point was that this came after Leftwich’s injury. Art Rooney II’s objective is to win football games. I highly doubt that he feels Ben is a really nice guy who is being courageous as he is wrongfully being accused of sleazy activites.
    On a side-note, calm down….obviously you are a fan who is aware of how badly Ben screwed over your football team. I won’t blame Steeler fans for forgiving him if he starts to win games. You want a good example; look at what happened to Tom Brady after he left his wife with cancer for a supermodel. Boston fans didn’t give a damn because he won games…..what amazes me about your position, is that right now he is responsible for all this bad publicity, making your owner look like a hypocrite, and your team look less classy than the Bengals.
