Rooney applauds Roethlisberger's growth, maturity

Steelers president Art Rooney II accompanies quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to New York on Friday for a meeting that apparently consisted of Commissioner Roger Goodell getting one more chance to visit with Roethlisberger in order to confirm that he deserved a two-game reduction in his suspension.

Rooney thinks he does.

“Commissioner Goodell informed us today that Ben Roethlisberger’s suspension has been reduced to four games,” Rooney said in a statement released by the team.  “Ben has done a good job this summer of growing as the person that he needs to be, both on and off the field.  I am confident that Ben is committed to continuing in this positive direction.  As a team, our focus is now on preparing for the regular season and getting off to a good start on opening weekend.”

Roethlisberger will be barred from the team’s facility until the day after a Week Four game against the Ravens.  He’ll have the bye week to prepare for his first game of the season, against the Browns.

That’s right Ben you’ve grown up these past few months going without raping any more drunk women at bars!
This is a true sign of maturity! Just remember Ben is one free rape per superbowl win, so if you go win another ring all will be forgiven and you can make some mans unlucky daughter your treat for a night.
At this point, it’s not even a matter of IF but WHEN.

The Steelers got rid of Holmes for being a pothead, and they keep Ben even though what he has been doing is a lot worse. The Rooney family has lost some credibility in my mind. QBs should not get that kind of preferential treatment, especially when they do the kinds of things that Ben did.

Great news for Big Ben. It seems only fair that his suspension shouldn’t be any longer than Mike Wise’s suspension from the Washington Post.
I can’t even imagine the sleepless nights Wise’s ill advised twitter post has caused those who read it and relied upon it — Like Florio said, Wise could have and should have lost his job. That being said, maybe the Post should reduce Mike Wise’s suspension to 3 weeks for good behavior, such as not reporting the untimely death of a former NFL player. Good luck!!!

    Steelermichelle,
You are actually comparing one-time incidents with that of a sick predator? In Stallworth’s case, he didn’t try to kill the man with his car; there was no intent there. In Lewis’s case, what was he charged for? Certainly not murder like you Steeler fanatics keep spewing. He did hang out with the wrong crowd. How is that equivalent of locking a girl in the bathroom with a bodyguard as lookout so he can do God knows what to her?
I’ll keep my daughters FAR FAR AWAY from him. Face it. If he wasn’t a Steelers All-Star, he’d be out of the NFL by now. How many chances do you want to give the guy b4 it’s too late?

I never respected the Rooney’s for buying off the ref’s to win the last two Superbowls but there comes a time where you need to back away from the limelight and just keep your mouth shut. This qualifies as that.
Anyone with a ounce of common sense (thus eliminating all Stealer fans) knows that Ben can not redeem himself in just four months and his behavior is so sleazy that it makes you cringe just to think about it. Anybody who suggests otherwise is either a Stealer fan or just plain stupid, or in the case of most Stealers fans, both.

I find it hilarious all the Steeler Haters out there who continue to call Ben a rapist!! He has never had a criminal charge of that type……ever. I REPEAT, EVER!!!!
Lets see, the first groupie in Utah, who shacked up with him in Utah, has zero credibility. In fact, she has so little credibility that she cannot even file a criminal charge. It was strictly a frivilous lawsuit, hoping the make a quick score to pay off her credit card debts. They shacked, he blew her off, she goes pyscho in love, still gets blown off by Ben, and then here comes the civil suit as a retaliation.
Next, our little party girl in Georgia, who happened to have a blood alchohol level that would register on the Richter Scale, cannot remember much of anything that happened that night, and was pretty much up front with Willie Colon that she was down to party. Now is there the possibility that something bad happened. I’m sure there is, but its not like women are not throwing themselves at celebrity, millionaire atheletes out on the party scene.
I doubt that Ben has much of a problem in the lady department that he has to stoop.

What part of “the medical exam showed she didn’t have intercourse” don’t you get? Roethlisberger hasn’t raped anyone in Georgia unless he has an Immaculate Penis that can do the deed without leaving any …
    semen
    pubic hair
chemicals or lubricant from a condom
If he raped McNulty, she’s some kinda freaky since she texted her pals THE NEXT DAY that she couldn’t wait to see him again.
You guys are much bigger asses than he is.
@connie … The people going to hell in this are the women crying rape when they weren’t. Hell can’t be fiery enough for them after what they’ve done to the REAL rape victims out there.
I expect you’ll see them when you get home.

Funny that Hurricane Earl is rolling through Pittsburgh today. Someone thinks your city stinks and could use a bath.

  81. Deb says: Sep 3, 2010 3:26 PM

    @PFTiswhatitis …
Really? He paid her off? For what?
The medical report showed she didn’t have intercourse that evening.
The ONLY people who claimed the bodyguard blocked the bathroom were the sorority sister and friend Ben threw out of the party for ragging him about the Nevada accusation after he wouldn’t go to a party at their place. That story was refuted by multiple witnesses. Those are the same two women who claimed she was raped when she said she wasn’t.
She said repeatedly she was not raped and changed her story multiple times.
The DA said he didn’t even have probable cause–a reasonable assumption a crime had been committed–WITH or WITHOUT her cooperation.
The DA said he hoped she and her sorority sisters had learned their lesson.
What would Ben have been paying for jackass? You don’t usually pay the hooker unless you get the goods and the medical exam said he didn’t … even though she told everyone she was Down to F**K.
    Fact-checking. It’s a beautiful thing.

  83. Bdrunk says: Sep 3, 2010 3:34 PM

Ben owes you nothing. No explanations, no apologies, nothing. Like any other case involving punishment by an employer, it is confidential information. You don’t have a right to your neighbor’s work history, nor do you have a right to Ben’s. Wow talk about a false sense of entitlement! It was well known that the suspension was 6 games, reduced to 4 if he kept his nose clean and did the tasks the Roger laid out. I believe one of them was a psych evaluation. That’s the only requirement I heard made public, and it was here that it was mentioned. As for the rest, dunno.
The fake outrage is hilarious tho, well played trolls.

Proof of guilt (often) leads to the conviction right? At least I would HOPE that part of it is tackled before sentencing.

@Deb: Congrats for being the biggest Rothlisberger apologist here. She SAID NO. That’s enough. Just because you are still screaming PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE doesnt make it that hard to believe. Your beloved QB is going around wipping out his johnson while his bodyguards block the doors. Thats the facts. Like ‘em or not he is a sleazbag and is non-apologetic about it. As JimmySmith said “Anyone with a ounce of common sense knows that Ben can not redeem himself in just four months.” But go ahead you just keep apologizing for him, at least someone is, because Ben isn’t.

  88. JSpicoli says: Sep 3, 2010 3:44 PM

Stallworth had a guy jump out in front of him while driving. Stallworth happened to have some level of intoxication. As a result of the fact that even a sober person could not have avoided it, but they had to give him some time since he is a public persona, he got off with a minimal sentence.
He did not drive up the sidewalk drunk, or slam someone in a crosswalk, did you see the video? Dude jumped out in front of him. You guys pull things way out of context.
Now Big ben, by all accounts was in the context of being a complete ass-clown and sick bastard, but escaped prosecution most likely because he pulled out his check book. She did not press charges. The thing in Tahoe was just two sleazes getting together, but shows Ben is a scummy dude with little regard for how he treats people.

Thank you for letting me come back by week 5 so The Cleveland Browns don’t put us two games behind in the AFCN
    Your friendly neighborhood rapist,
    Ben
    Go Ravens!
    —————-
That was funny in the other two threads you posted it as well.
Seriously tho? Ben owns Baltimore. This Steeler fan thinks the Browns are going to be the real worry in the AFCN.

Where is the proof that this is a true statement.
And you are sticking up for a POS that was driving drunk and killed a person.

  92. Deb says: Sep 3, 2010 4:29 PM

    @Ravenmaniac …
I can’t believe I once thought you were a decent person, fair-minded fan, and someone with whom I enjoyed discussing football. Because you’re intelligent enough to understand the evidence in this case, there’s no excuse for your blind hatred and certainly not for the hate-filled rants you’ve leveled at me over the last few months. What a sad, pathetic excuse for a man you are. What kind of person exploits his own fatherhood just to level hate at a football team? God help you.

  93. Deb says: Sep 3, 2010 4:40 PM

    @PFTiswhatitis …
When a long-serving, well-respected prosecutor says he hopes the accuser and her friends learned their lesson, that’s very definitive. So was the medical exam. It is what it is. You don’t like it. JimmySmith doesn’t like it. Ravenmaniac doesn’t like it. So you stamp your feet, throw tantrums, and ridicule me.
Won’t change the facts. Won’t make you big men. Doesn’t make me an apologist. Can’t apologize for something the guy didn’t do.
He’s a jackass and he deserved a suspension of 2-3 games for being reckless and stupid. He needed a kick in the pants. But the whole “she said no” thing is something you guys invented as a football shout, nothing more.

  94. Ravenmaniac says: Sep 3, 2010 4:56 PM

Deb….I cant believe that I once sympathized with you! I actually thought you were coherent at one time.
While I am not sure what rants you are referring…isnt this where you once again hope that I am falsely accused of raping someone..you know like you said the other day…..God help you Deb…..
Maybe you should worry about your own life before you judge all of us. Dont judge me as a man by what I write on here. You do not have a clue….you are the single most self righteous person that I have witnessed on this site.
How about this….I will not reference you in the future and you do the same for me!

  95. Holeinone09 says: Sep 3, 2010 6:03 PM

Four games is what most of us expected, not that it is fair (it’s too many compared to other GODell punishments), but that was the minimum GODell laid down. Steeler fans and the team will deal with it just fine. Like I said, the haters main issue is that they don’t want Ben to play since when he does it gives the Steelers a much better chance of beating anyone in the league, and at some point their precious team might have to fact the Steelers during the season, playoffs or Super Bowl. Quit cryin’ already!
The Steelers will be 12-4 this year. 2-2 without Ben and 10-2 with him. And as Peter King predicted, they will win the Super Bowl.
connie, reba and other so-called Steeler fans probably never visited Pittsburgh in their life and have never like the Steelers. There is no way on God’s green earth that one person would make you hate the team and say things like they have. They are a joke.
Now, pay attention. 10/17/10. Browns will be beaten.
    GO STEELERS!!

“Ben has done a good job this summer of growing as the person that he needs to be, both on and off the field.”
    ————————————————-
Duh!!! Of course Worthlessburger is going to be on his best behavior with Goodell and Rooney breathing his neck!!!!
I don’t think he is truly sorry” for his stupid off the field furburger antics. In my expirience a truly sorry person takes his punishment like a man, instead of whinning to Goodell to have his punishment cut in half to 3 games. Worthlessburger and his agents going to Goodell and playing meek-goody-two-shoes and begging for the 3 game reduction made me doubt that he is sorry for anything, especially since Goodell stated previously that the punishment would be at least 4 games and no lower.
I think the only thing that is “growing” is the bulge in Worthlessburger’s pants the next time he gets to look at drunken coed furburgers in a bar/nightclub.

  97. Deb says: Sep 3, 2010 7:08 PM

Ravenmaniac, I regretted saying I wished you’d be falsely accused of rape because I’m not one to wish ill on other people although anyone posting here through the summer would understand why I might given the unrepeatable attacks levied–and you right there to egg on a lot of it. I’ve NEVER gone onto a Ravens thread and bad-mouthed Lewis or anyone else on your team. You’ve REVELED in this knowing full well Roethlisberger didn’t rape anyone, so don’t play that superior pissy card with me.
YOU came onto a Steelers thread and cheered on a sad, sick shrew who without provocation was screeching that I’m a bitch and telling me to shut the f**k up. And you’re whining because it drew a response??
This is a STEELERS thread. If you don’t like what I have to say, leave, you little nothing man.

A leopard doesn’t change its spots. Ben is the same PIG he has always been. I can’t WAIT for him to do the slightest thing. He needs to keep his ass home ALONE watching the NFL channel or HBO. For him he probably has those XXX movies too. That’s all he’s getting now anyways..or probably before… He’s too ugly for anything else.

I praised my son once for cleaning up his room without having to be told first by his mother or me. Of course, he was a 12 years old at the time.
There goes the Commish going off on Ben almot in the same tone. Only now were are talking about a grown man and not some kid. Goodell sounded just like me when I gave my son his pat on the back. Praising Ben for something like having a level of maturity that he should have aquired by the time he was turning 12 or 13 anyway is pathetic. Should have kept Ben out the full six games, too.
