Wes Welker says "I don't feel the same"

nfl_welker1_250.jpgPatriots receiver Wes Welker tore up his knee during the last game of the 2009 regular season.  After surgery and rehab and ongoing signs of progress, Welker is ready for the first game of the 2010 regular season.

Or is he?

Welker will play, but he offered a caveat.

“I still feel like I’m a long ways off from that personally,” Welker told Albert Breer of the Boston Globe.  “People say it looks the same.  I don’t feel the same.  So I’m not
gonna put a number on myself.”

Still, there was no doubt that Welker would be back on the field for the start of the season.

“The whole PUP deal or sitting out games or whatever, that never really
entered my mind,” Welker told Breer.  “For me, it was never a
question.  I wasn’t gonna sit out. It’s just not in me.  I can’t do it.”

Whether he can get back to the guy he had been before the knee injury will go a long way toward determining whether the Patriots can get back to being the team that they had been before Tom Brady’s knee injury.

I like Wes Welker but this is also good news for us in that season opener against them. I hope after our game he gains his confidence back. lol

I hate the Patriots, but you’ve gotta like the little guy, he plays like a big man. I’ve torn an ACL, and it can take a full season of just getting through it before you can come back to full strength the next season. The knee and muscles around it can be back to strength, but the hard part is the mental part and getting past that, and that may take several weeks or most of the season. Once he makes it back though, look out…Come back strong Wes. Still hope your team loses a ridiculous amount of games, but hope you play well sir.

I utterly despise the Pats, but am a Welker fan. Dude’s a special player, hopefully he gets back to full strength and playmaking ability.

  5. EverybodyGotAIDS says: Sep 3, 2010 8:32 AM

Welker will be fine, but if he needs a little bit of time, Edelman should be able to fill in (assuming his mystery injury isn’t anything serious). Also, with the tight ends, the short passing game should be better with a variety of short to mid range options. The real question mark is Brandon Tate. If he can step in and be a legitimate mid to deep threat…..look out.

All the Fantasy guys just $hit a brick.
Gotta love this guy. Looks like they’ve moved on however. This Gronkowski is a beast at TE and Eddelman is a Welker mini-me.
His numbers won’t be great this year.

OK, this is going to be my first moronic Patriots post of the day. There’s gonna be many more to come losers! I have no life! Anything that this site posts that even remotely is related to the “Pats”, “Patriots”, “New England” I go crazy over. I can’t help it. I have an affliction. I HAVE TO write stupid, inane, juvenile and completely retarded posts. What is wrong with me? Please, help me Florio! This is a cry for help! What are you doing to me Florio? It’s like you have some kind of Satanic hold over my little impacted-turd of a brain. I can’t stop! It’s completely ruining my life! I lost my fry cook job at McDonalds to a 16 year old because of you! I worked there for 29 years for that position! What about my self esteem Florio? My Mom made me move back down to the basement! Help!

Not accurate at all….I believe they went 18-1 after videogate, which would mean they technically won the AFC championship.

The Miami Dolphins haven’t won anything in 37 years.
And they had Dan Marino (who won shit by the way). Talk about futility. The Dolphins have been a joke since Fiedler was escorted out of town about 10 years ago. And they were shit before him all the way back to the Bob “Taco” Griese era.

  28. Batman says: Sep 3, 2010 10:32 AM

Crazy Nick…I dont live anywhere near Foxboro…or Mass. But I am not naive enough to think the Patriots were the only team to “camcorde”. You must be a Jets fan..or some team the Pats dismantled. I cant believe we are back on this. Fans cant get over the fact the Pats did what every team does, but got caught. Old coaches admit to it. What else do you need? But, I digress. Fans of losing teams need to blame them..and I guess its the best way to go about it.
Let me reiterate…All Teams vidotaped other teams!!!
Also..under the gun..the Patriots went 16-0 in the regular season..and lost to the Giants in the Bowl. Good game..NYG played like animals..and even outplayed the Pats. But Id like to see Tyree catch that again in 100 attempts. Wont happen.

  29. purpleguy says: Sep 3, 2010 10:46 AM

I like Welker, but you’ve got to wonder, given the extent of the injury, how healthy it is for that knee to be pushing the comeback so hard. The guy will probably need a knee replacement by the time he’s 45.

My black soul is being stolen by this site! If this was 30 years ago and I was still in high school, my grades would be plummeting! Take my advice all of you losers and flee. Oh, and the Pats suck! 32. JSpicoli says: Sep 3, 2010 11:36 AM

Injuries like this, with surgery need 2 years for a full recovery. I know you can get back on the field and train etc, before that, but having gone through them myself and watching the NFL carefully, this is my opinion. You THINK you are whole within a year, but then you look back and realize that it took a couple years.

Tapes relayed to Ernie Adams in-game and then broken down in the bowels of the stadium, then the signals relayed to Belichick, who then relays them to Brady and the rest of the offense. Probably too complex for you Patsie excuse-making morons to comprehend though, WizzTurd.

This is classic Bill Belichick misdirection. No way Welker doesn’t have 100+ receptions this year. This was put out to the public so that other teams would focus less on that sneaky white guy running around in the middle of the field catching ten balls a game.

  37. Dave_in_the_sticks says: Sep 3, 2010 3:10 PM

I love all the haters! Remember when the Pats didn’t win anything? Nobody hated them back then. Everybody hates the winner, and when their team can’t compete, they call the winners “cheaters”. Oh boohoo… My team has 3 rings and your team doesn’t. Wes is too tough to play any way except all out. Pats offense will be fine- its the defense real Pats fans are worried about.

Why do you people spend your time being jealous over the patriots? You come up with the same lame BS about “spygate” and the tuck rule game.
“Spygate” is one of those things all the loudmouth low IQ sports fans like to talk about. It makes them feel better for the decade plus their team spent getting beaten to a pulp by a superior coach and QB.
I know I’m asking a lot but I think reading a paragraph or two on what the taping actually entailed would enrich your limited vocab and also help shed some light on a topic you have no clue about.
Once you realize that it’s standard practice and provided no edge whatsoever to the patriots you then might look towards other tidbits to make you feel better.

    @ Yawn Florio
One problem with your theory. The guy who made the tapes said he NEVER gave a tape to anyone until AFTER the game.
Also, Goodell investigated in game viewing and found no evidence it occurred.
Your scenario is plausible, but it was determined that it did not occur.
To all haters, here’s a twist.
The rule on camera placement states that you cannot have a camera on the field. The league defines the field as “sideline to sideline, endline to endline” (ie the playing field). BB did NOT have a camera on the field as the league defines it.
The league memo that you all like to reference should have been ignored. Why? In referencing the rule about camera placement, Ray Anderson, the lawyer who wrote the memo, changed one word in the rule. He changed the word ‘field’ to the word ‘sideline’. All competent lawyers know that by doing this, Anderson changed the rule, which he is unauthorized to do. Only the owners can propose and vote on rule changes. So, the memo that was sent was a memo about a rule that did not exist. It should have been ignored. So, the memo is irrelevant.
Also, what is on the film is not illegal. Teams can film whatever they want. So, unless it is proved that BB and the Pats were watching in game film, what exactly did BB do wrong?
I live 55 miles from Foxboro. Another theory shot dead.

  43. BCGreg says: Sep 5, 2010 8:58 PM

    @ Yawn Florio
You say: All other teams videotaped? Yes, but they did so in accordance with the rules, unlike the Cheatriots.
    WRONG!
    Google Jimmy Johnson Spygate
You’ll get a transcript from a WFAN interview where he states he used to do the same thing on his way to 3 SB titles. He learned from a guy who worked in KC under Schottenheimer, so KC did it. On Schottenheimer’s staff, there was Cowher, who has said the tapes didn’t help the Pats win, Herm Edwards, who is scene on tape WAVING to the camera, and Tony Dungy. I mention Dungy because the guy from KC that showed Jimmy Johnson how he videotaped went to TB to work for Dungy when Dungy got the HC job there, so TB did it too.
Johnson also said he stopped doing it because in the end, he didn’t really get anything out of it.
    That’s just from Jimmy Johnson!
