A lot of failed recent draft picks among Bears cuts

The Bears reached the NFL’s mandatory 53-man roster limit on Saturday and their list of cuts has a lot of players that G.M. Jerry Angelo won’t brag about drafting in his media guide.

Offensive lineman Josh Beekman, defensive lineman Jarron Gilbert, wide receiver Juaquin Iglesias, and.safety Al Afalava were all recent draft picks that were let go. The team also released special teams standout Tim Shaw, after they failed to trade him.

Afalava started 13 games last year as a rookie.

Also waived: quarterback Dan LeFevour, fullback Eddie Williams, receivers Freddie Barnes and Greg Mathews, tackles James Marten and Levi Horn, center Tim Walter, defensive end Barry Turner, defensive tackles Edwin Williams and Mick Williams, linebackers Kevin Malast and Kelvin Smith, cornerbacks Cornelius Brown and Woodny Turenne and safeties Quentin Scott and Aaron Webster. The team also cut tight end Richard Angulo.

The Bears kept running backs Garrett Wolfe and Kahlil Bell.
