The Jaguars have been considering dumping former first-round safety Reggie Nelson for a while, so we thought it was almost sad he was starting a recent game for them.
Perhaps they were just trying to “showcase” him for a trade.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Bengals and Jaguars are trying to consummate a trade that would send Nelson to Cincinnati. Giving up anything of value for Nelson at this point would be rather sad as well.
UPDATE: Apparently the Jaguars will get cornerback David Jones in exchange for Nelson. The deal will happen.
I’m definitely glad reggie’s gone. He was a liability in the secondary. There goes another Shack Harris era pick.
Nelson’s a joke and the Jaguars will be a better team the day he leaves town. Bengals would be foolish to do this for even a 7th round pick.
nice trade for the Bengals. They got the backup safety they need for a guy that was getting cut anyways in David Jones.
Well played.

Reggie Nelson: Super Bowl MVP !!
Neither one of these players would stick on his team, this trade just avoids Waiver fights and sures up depth. D. Jones is an average corner and Nelson is a first round bust. Maybe Zimmer can get this kid to tackle.
Good grief Mike Brown, don’t give away David Jones for this hack.

David Jones getting cut anyway.
I just want to remind everyone that the last player the Bengals traded for was Brian Leonard. This is the guy that unsheathed the dagger that was thrust into the hearts of the Steelers during week 3 last season by converting a 4th and 10 with a brilliant dive in a clutch moment. He has become a pillar in the offensive scheme with his versatility. He also jumps over dudes which is pretty awesome.
The guy they traded to the Rams to get him was Orien Harris, a guy that wasn’t going to make the team. The Rams cut him and the Bengals picked him up again. I’m pretty sure he’s still on the team and will probably be cut tomorrow.
That being said, Reggie Nelson is no Brian Leonard. Ndukwe should still be the backup at both safety spots. With Gibril Wilson injured the only other option is Kyries Hebert, who is little more than a special teams tackling ace. This is an upgrade.
both Hebert and Harris were cut today.
“This is an upgrade.”
Key point. His draft status means absolutely nothing for the Bengals, it’s all about depth.
Saw a report it was David Jones and a conditional pick next year for Nelson,
Nelson sucks
Stoked on the conditional pick. Nelson is a serious liability so I’m glad he’s gone. Thankfully for the Bengals they don’t have to start the guy. Look up the highlights from the Jags-Colts thursday night game last year. Just do it. Unbelievable.
