Derrick Burgess done in New England

The New England Patriots have seen enough of Derrick Burgess.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Patriots will cut Burgess today.

The 32-year-old Burgess had five sacks last year, his only season with the Patriots. Although he recorded 16 sacks in 2005, Burgess has steadily declined as a pass rusher since then and become even more of a liability against the run.

Albert Breer of the Boston Globe pointed out after the preseason finale that the Giants consistently had success running at Burgess, and that he wasn’t generating much of a pass rush, either. And now he’s done in New England.

A bad Patriots defense just getting worse.
Atleast Banta Cain will get to pad his sacks against the Bills O-line again

Yeah good luck Derrick we appreciate everything you… Wait… 5 sacks in exchange for a 3rd and a 5th? An absolute hole when it came to run fits and responsibilities? Uhmmm… On second thought good riddance and congrats Al Davis that’s your make up for the tuck rule…

God awful player…I’m glad he’s gone. I have no clue what BB saw in the guy. He was useless. I’d rather have young guys in there making mistakes rather than him sucking up a roster spot, doing the same. At least the young players will learn and hopefully develop.
We need a real GM…BB the GM is killing BB the Coach.

You Pats think he was bad, wait until you experience the Gerrard Warren “take every other play off” syndrome.
And no, this doesn’t make up for the “Tuck Rule”.

    It is about time.

Ray Guy-Warren was never as good as his hype in CLE and Den. I admit I was shocked the Pats would want him.
Yes Joeintoronto the Raiders got the best of the Burgess thing too. Maybe BB thought he was going to resurrect the Philly era Burgess. Never happened.
