Guys who made the cut shouldn't uncork the champagne yet

There likely were sighs of relief in every NFL city today as players learned that they made the cut from 75 to 53.

But the men on the fringes shouldn’t get comfortable yet.

The process of flooding 32-times-22 guys into the market (that’s 704 players in all) routinely triggers a flurry of waiver claims and free-agent signings.  And for each guy who finds a new home another guy who thought he’d arrived will be jettisoned.

The process will continue throughout the 2010 season, with the final eight roster spots churning based on factors like short-term needs, long-term plans, relationships with agents, relationships with players, and other connections and motivations that influence the decisions to give or not give away one of the eight positions on the roster that lets a guy practice but not dress on game days.

Well it’s obvious people who write for this site truly hate the Saints. I had to get the roster information from the Saints website which is notoriously slow in posting new information.
    Sigh.

Who is this post actually direct towards?
Do you think there were players who made the cut, feeling good about themselves, and then swung on over to PFT for you to point out the obvious to them, and now they’re all depressed?
    Or was this just filler?

    Clintcooper,
Did you ever think that the notoriously slow Saints office didn’t let the info out to Florio and company either?

I like this post. It’s obvious, but so is nearly everything a play by play man says during a game. The point is that someone somewhere didn’t know or realize this, and I think it’s a great job to point it out.
As much as anyone likes to make fun of John Madden in his later years, the ability to deliver the same tired information over and over again, with some form of enthusiasm, was what made him a great coach, as well as one of the best color men ever. For every time some douche at your Sunday party said, “No shit, John” there was someone new to football who said, “OOOOH, so THAT’S why they do that!”
In fact, Mike, I would like more information. Do the players who are cut always have to clear waivers? Could you rehash for us how the waiver system works? What if a player is waived/cut while injured? If a player makes it through the waiver system and on to the practice squad, what are the procedures for another team to acquire him? There are a bunch of posts right there, if you’re looking for numbers.
More of this, and less of the personal opinion pieces…that usually go both ways…IN SEPARATE POSTS.
