Jeff Fisher hints at deactivating Kenny Britt

The receiver-needy Titans used a 2009 first-round pick on Kenny Britt.  As a rookie, Britt appeared in every game, started six, and caught 42 passes for 701 yards.

This year, Britt faces the possibility of wearing street clothes on game days.

“That is part of the learning process,” Fisher said Friday, per Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean.  “If I suspect
there’s issues he is not part of the [active roster].  If
his mind is clear and he is focused and is ready to play, he is
potentially a really good player.  But if I suspect there would be a
problem, we have other receivers I’ll play instead of Kenny.”

Fisher yanked Britt out of Thursday night’s preseason finale after a rash of errors.  But while Fisher makes a good point about Britt’s development, it’s not as if the Titans are deep at the position.  The starters currently are Nate Washington and Justin Gage; Lavelle Hawkins, Damian Williams, Dominique Edison, Marc Mariani, and Paul Williams also appear on the depth chart.

Tomlin benched Mendenhall last season, and after that, he turned out to be a really solid RB. Maybe this will work for Britt?

The Titans seem to overlook the character issues in their drafting…like Haynesworth and Pacman just to name a couple.

Britt’s still just 21. He’s got the physical ability to be a #1, but realistically that’s a lot to ask of such a young guy.

@AttackRaven…. what does that have to do with Britt. He’s shown no character issues. And you bring up two players out of a long history of drafting quality good-guy players. Stop hating on the Titans and go look at your own murders.. oh wait players like Ray Lewis.

the only things I can think of … Do we really want/need Houshmanzadeh ? He would be an upgrade over Paul Williams at least …

Mangini deactivated Jerome Harrison for a few games last year because he refused to work on his blocking. Following that, Harrison became more of a complete NFL RB & looks good *with the fumbling exception* for the upcoming 2010 season!

Britt needs to mature, Fisher (the longest tenured coach in the league) knows how to deal with him. The Titans will be fine.

He’s not deactivating Britt. It was in refrence to his being taken out of the game for being spaced out and that was in refrence to another article in the Tennessean prior to this one where the issue was already addressed.

I would make Britt my #2 WR. He is has good hands and always finishes his routes. He is young and makes mistakes, but so does half the NFL.

Seahawks should trade Housh for LeGarrette Blount

I’m almost positive the Titans won’t trade an Undrafted Free Agent to the Seahawks for a guy who has a salary of 7 million this year. The Titans would be losing out quite a bit in that kind of trade. They are not that stupid.
