Saints place starter Casillas on injured reserve

The Saints cut 19 players on Saturday, but the most surprising news to come from the team was that linebacker Jonathan Casillas will miss the rest of the season with a foot injury.

Casillas earned himself drinks for life in New Orleans by recovering the onside kick to start the second half of last Super Bowl. But the special teamer surprisingly earned the starting weakside linebacker job in training camp.  The Saints are rather thin at linebacker: they also placed outside linebacker Clint Ingram on the reserve/PUP list.

Here’s the full list of Saints cuts, some of which we mentioned before: running back Ladell Betts, defensive tackle Kendrick Clancy,
offensive linemen Nick Leckey andTerrence Metcalf, defensive end
Bobby McCray, fullback Jason McKie and quarterback Patrick
Ramsey and waived wide receiver Montez Billings, offensive linemen
Brandon Carter, Na’Shan Goddard and Jermey Parnell,
linebacker Harry Coleman, cornerback Reggie Jones, fullback Zak
Keasey tight end Tyler Lorenzen, defensive linemen DeMario
Pressley, Jay Ross and Al Woods and safety Chip Vaughn.

  1. I love my Saints and believe they can make another great run but they better find some creative ways to help that weak linebacker core. You have J.Vilma and that’s it. But I trust in the decisions the organization has made over the last couple of years.

  2. Omg. Gregg Rosenthal really is a flaming moron. Casillas isn’t the guy who came up with the ball after the onside kick. That was Chris Reis!!!! Tell me Gregg, do you think Jonathan Casillas has flowing blonde hair?

  3. And btw, this story comes in approximately six hours later than I found it on nola.com. Geez you guys really hate the Saints don’t you?

  4. Don’t worry last year you milked Katrina this year you can use that whole oil spill thing for more pitty. I’m sure we will see all the Saints fans in the Dome holding up oil spill signs. The referres will most likely bail you out again.

  5. Okay with Casillas and Sharper both out, I don’t wanna hear any whining from Queens fans when they lose on 9-9.

  6. Good news… Bad news. The good news is, he’s got free drinks for life… the bad news is, he’s an alcoholic.

  7. The Saints are thin at linbacker & they new that going into the draft and decided not to do anything about it. The had plenty chances to pick up a good linbacker and didn’t. It will probably come back to haunt them.

  8. So now the saints are missing Sharper, Vilma, and Casillas…I’d be very worried about All Day coming to town on Thursday, guess they should have been talking so much shit

  9. Taints know what to do. Injure key players on the other team. A 15 yard penalty is cheap for crippling an opposing player and if Goodell wants them to win again, there won’t be any penalties again. X marks the spot should be the official slogan of the Taints.

YOU’RE SO RIGHT! I mean the refs obviously rigged all of the vikings game for Brett Favre to get to the Superbowl but he ruined it by throwing that pick.
WHY DO YOU EVEN PONDER PASSING?
