Dolphins place Will Allen on injured reserve, cut Charles Grant

Some teams, like the Green Bay Packers, didn’t put in a single waiver claim after Saturday’s cuts, much less get awarded a player.

Other teams, like the Dolphins, just saw Saturday’s 53-man roster as a starting point.

The Dolphins were awarded four players off waivers: defensive end Clifton Geathers, offensive linemen Jermey Parnell and Joe Reitz and defensive end Robert Rose. (For a comical collage of the four players, head to the team’s website.)

The team also terminated the contracts of defensive end Marques Douglas, defensive end Charles Grant and guard Cory Procter. Miami also placed cornerback Will Allen on Injured Reserve, which Ethan Skolnick of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel first reported earlier Sunday afternoon.

Allen’s move is a surprise. He’s been a key contributor to the team and was slated for nickel back duties. It’s possible he could negotiate an injury settlement because he was only expected to miss a few weeks of the season.

Douglas and Grant are both long-time NFL veterans that were signed during the offseason to shore up the team’s defensive line. But the team will continue to go young up front.
