Jets cut Tony Richardson

Throughout this year’s installment of Hard Knocks, Jets coach Rex Ryan made it clear that veteran fullback Tony Richardson has a place on the roster.

If he does, he’ll get it back after Week One; Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Richardson has been cut.

A 15-year veteran and three-time Pro Bowler, Richard spent two seasons with the Jets, which followed two seasons with the Vikings, which followed 11 with the Chiefs.  The Jets could be planning to re-sign Richardson after the first game, at which time the balance of his salary would not be guaranteed.

The most recent depth chart shows Richardson as the starting fullback, and rookie John Conner as the backup.

TERRIBLE move. John Connor is a stud, but the leadership will be hard to replace.

“Richard spent two seasons with the Jets, which followed two seasons with the Vikings, which followed 11 with the Chiefs.”
I think you worded that wrong Florio.
He spent 11 seasons with the Chiefs, which was followed by two seasons with the Vikings, which was followed by two seasons with the Jets.

He’s the top rated fullback in Madden ’11 (94 overall) and a big reason the Jets have the ground game they do.
Is another team free to pick him up while he’s cut? Seems he’d instantly improve anyone’s running game.

they better bring him back otherwise it will be a stupid move, conner still has a lot to learn and t-rich can teach him the right way to play and he is great in the locker room

Favre is renting Richardson’s house in Minny. If Richardson isn’t picked up, he might move back in. ALL NFL stories, are Favre related.

Calling Buddy Nix, calling Buddy Nix. SIGN THIS MAN NOW!!!!!!!! He’s one of the best fullbacks in the game, and I’d love to see him in a Bills uniform.

  10. PittsburghSteelerz says: Sep 5, 2010 7:00 PM

    Steelers?
They just cut their “starting” fullback.
Eh, who am I kidding. They’ll just throw a TE back there and hope for the best.

who could not see this one coming, watch hard knocks and the Jets were basically telegraphing that T.Rich would not be there this year

  15. RexR#1 says: Sep 5, 2010 7:08 PM

John Conner won the job because of FOX’s Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles show.

  16. raynman49 says: Sep 5, 2010 7:09 PM

They sure play games with money. It’s ALL about the money.

  17. TheSleepness says: Sep 5, 2010 7:11 PM

dumb move by the jets..Tannanbaum needs to stop running that team like some kind of corporation…all glamour and bullshit up front with ZERO character & depth inside.

  18. majorlots says: Sep 5, 2010 7:13 PM

the “terminator” is gonna start? their O line got abused by the panthers young defense…greg hardy looked like a damn probowler…jets run game could be in trouble…so could the passing game if the former is true…

  19. nutbuster says: Sep 5, 2010 7:14 PM

    who?

  20. bigdawg24 says: Sep 5, 2010 7:18 PM

My God….. The Chiefs need him back….NOW!!!

  21. matthoover says: Sep 5, 2010 7:23 PM

Here’s my wish for 2010: that the Chiefs call T-Rich for a return to Arrowhead, and clear two rosters spots in the process by releasing Tim Castille and Mike Cox to do so.

  22. Percy Headachin says: Sep 5, 2010 7:31 PM

wow thats crazy. Watching Hard Knocks they dont need him to play. They just like him as a team leader on a team without one. Honestly tho I dont feel too bad for him. He has had 15 years of nfl fun, let the young kids play.

  23. jc says: Sep 5, 2010 7:33 PM

Vikes should sign him back up. Get rid of 12th man Tahi. More versatile and can pick up a blitz.

  24. toddm6d says: Sep 5, 2010 7:34 PM

If the Vikings were smart they’d make a play to get him back.
Petey hasn’t been the same since Richardson left.

  25. RealityTrip says: Sep 5, 2010 7:37 PM

Say hello to the Vikings Tony….

  26. DrakeDB says: Sep 5, 2010 7:51 PM

Oh please someone claim him. Jets going all cheap on Tony calls for a bolt of instant kharma!

  27. kbev87 says: Sep 5, 2010 7:53 PM

not if NE signs him first! It’s no secret how much BB loves Richardsons leadership qualities, somthing that’s in LARGE DEMAND in NE!!

  30. raidersteve413 says: Sep 5, 2010 8:22 PM

Who cares anyways HBO job is to make players look better than they really are. Rememeber the cheifs were on there they made them look like they were gona go to the superbowl. Look how that season turned out for them. Its the HBO curse. Every team who been on there had a horrible season

  31. David LeFebvre says: Sep 5, 2010 8:25 PM

dbellina – I think you forgot what the word “was” means, and what “followed” means when there’s no “was” before it.

  32. yem123 says: Sep 5, 2010 9:17 PM

raidersteve did you forget about the bengals last year? going from having the #6 overall pick to making the playoffs? they are the anomaly tho./ jets suck.

  33. NYJALLFINGDAY says: Sep 5, 2010 9:20 PM

    @Raidersteve413
Bengals didn’t have that bad of a season, by bengal standards.

  34. monropoobah says: Sep 6, 2010 5:10 AM

the ‘most recent depth chart’ includes many players who have been cut. so what.
