Former Packers tight end Spencer Havner didn’t get too far down the waiver before a team bit on him.
The Lions -- the second worst team in the league last year -- placed a claim on the third-year. Havner scored four times in seven catches last year, making him the football equivalent of Rob Deer.
To make room on the roster, the Lions cut receiver/return man Dennis Northcutt, according to the Detroit Free Press. The former Browns player was entering his eleventh year.
Finally, five practice squad spots have been filled in Detroit: “Mr. Irrelevant” wideout Tim Toone, wide receiver Michael Moore, cornerback Paul Pratt, linebacker Caleb Campbell and defensive tackle Rob Calloway.
