T.J. Houshmandzadeh looking at Raiders, Redskins

After getting cut by the Seahawks and spurned by the Vikings and Bengals, free agent wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh is now looking at the Raiders and Redskins.

Danny O’Neil of the Seattle Times reports that Houshmandzadeh has not returned messages since being released, but a source who had spoken to Houshmandzadeh said he appears to be narrowing down his destinations to either Oakland or Washington.

The 32-year-old Houshmandzadeh led the Seahawks in catches last year and has more than 900 receiving yards in each of the last five seasons.

O’Neill writes that Houshmandzadeh is likely to sign for the veteran minimum salary in 2010.

    Oakland or Washington means Career=Dead.

  2. tooz56 says: Sep 5, 2010 10:12 PM

With Chaz as fragile as he has been, T.J. would be a good addition to the Raiders as long as his ego stays in check.

  3. Legend says: Sep 5, 2010 10:16 PM

This would be great news for the Raiders. A proven vet at WR? Heck yeah…

I thought that there was no veteran minimum in an uncapped year? and i wrong in thinking that? and if i’m not wrong, how does a writer for the Seattle Times not know that?

  7. Big J says: Sep 5, 2010 10:22 PM

For the league minimum, the Skins should sign him.

  8. Captain Obvious says: Sep 5, 2010 10:22 PM

Dont you guys link every free agent with the Raiders and Redskins?

I’d like to announce that I am looking at Eva Mendes and Zoe Saldana as potential girlfriends if my wife decides to cut me.

  11. BrianMD says: Sep 5, 2010 10:32 PM

Well, why not choose between the two biggest spenders in the league.

  12. SkinsFan says: Sep 5, 2010 10:32 PM

As a Skins fan, I have been crossing my fingers that he would wind up in a Redskins uniform ever since I heard he was released in Seattle. His addition would be just what we need to bolster a non-scary receiving corps.

  13. Laxer37 says: Sep 5, 2010 10:33 PM

“he appears to be narrowing down his destinations to either Oakland or Washington.”
In other words, nobody else wants him.

  14. NFLFollower says: Sep 5, 2010 10:34 PM

the veteran minimum? that just doesn’t seem right….. How is there not more demand for a proven WR?

  15. wheresrickysanders says: Sep 5, 2010 10:37 PM

tj whos ya momma would be a good edition to our struggling receiving core in DC. Gotta be a no brainer for him.

  16. FinFan68 says: Sep 5, 2010 10:38 PM

He can sign for absolutely nothing and still get $7M from seattle

  17. Shark839 says: Sep 5, 2010 10:39 PM

Boy you know the end is near if your only choices are the Redskins or Raiders.
I am a little shocked the Vikings did not take a look at him. With Rice out at least half the year and Harvin being game to game with his head aches, depth at WR is something they could use.

  18. THERAIDERNATION dot NET says: Sep 5, 2010 10:39 PM

Sign him for a year and cut him if he’s a problem. Get it done, Al.

  19. Matt Cribbin says: Sep 5, 2010 10:40 PM

Not a shock. After all, those are two of the three teams (Raiders, Redskins, Vikings) most likely to sign Housh.
I think he picks Oakland b/c the main reason he was really good in his prime was because of Hue Jackson, the Raiders offensive coordinator.
He would have some value with the Redskins also, as they could use someone to compete with Devin Thomas.

  23. JMClarkent says: Sep 5, 2010 10:48 PM

I would love to see him in Oakland.
The Raiders really could use a vet to help provide some stability and talent to their group of young wide-outs.

  24. I RULE! says: Sep 5, 2010 10:48 PM

C’mon T.J., join the Raiders! Jump into the black hole. Come into the black hole! You love the black hole!

  25. RaiderChile says: Sep 5, 2010 10:53 PM

OK, Al Davis stick it to your ex-coach Shanahan and get this guy. You missed out on TO so don’t screw this over either. Don’t pay more than the minimum too!

  26. cronn100 says: Sep 5, 2010 10:54 PM

Or are his destinations being narrowed FOR him? Cinci and Minn don’t want him…

  27. Fonetik says: Sep 5, 2010 10:55 PM

So he hasn’t responded to messages since being released, but apparently this Danny O’Neil knows something everybody else doesn’t? What sort of dark magic is he employing?!?!?!

  28. i'm just a bill, yeah i'm only a bill says: Sep 5, 2010 10:56 PM

he’ll go to the Redskins since Shanahan never passes up a chance to screw the Raiders.

  29. RedskinOne says: Sep 5, 2010 11:01 PM

Cmon Housh, Oakland is where players go to die, come to the Skins and help us win the East, your choice of who is throwing to you, Skins new QB or our offseason castoff.

  30. Two-A-Days says: Sep 5, 2010 11:03 PM

This would be GREAT for the redskins!!! Even though Santana is going to have a good season under with Kyle Shanahan calling plays he still needs somene opposite him. If this happens i can see Santana getting 1200 yards this year. Cmon B. Allen cast your spell !!

  31. dirtyTHIRTY says: Sep 5, 2010 11:07 PM

I hope the Raiders sign him. I don;t wanna see Joey Galloway lose his roster spot… I can just see him beating out a Cowboys defender in week 1 for a deep TD. 🙂

  32. CaptainMarvel says: Sep 5, 2010 11:11 PM

Let me just say one thing. Childress knows what he’s doing. With Favre, all you need is a few decent receivers to do their jobs. And a RB to do his job. The most ridiculous thing I EVER saw was every member of predicting the Peckers in the Super Bowl. The Vikings and Favre tore-them-a-new-one in BOTH games last year. What’s changed???

  33. nutbuster says: Sep 5, 2010 11:13 PM

who cares he got really slow and really average quite quickly, I see why they all to to get as much money as possible while they can because the game leaves all the players in a relatively short time.

  34. Al Davis & Bo Jackson says: Sep 5, 2010 11:13 PM

Add Housh and FB Tony Richardson… Subtract Johnny Lee Higgins & Marcel Reece. Keeping Yamon over JLH because he knows Hue’s playbook from their time with the Ravens. BOOM!

  35. TheSolution says: Sep 5, 2010 11:14 PM

    Housh is washed up.
Idk why the hell would want him and also has a attitude problem.

  36. twinkletoes says: Sep 5, 2010 11:15 PM

A quick glance at the ‘Hawks 2010 schedule reveals an October 31st matchup with the Raiders but nothing with the Redskins this season. Hmmm…

  37. cmd88 says: Sep 5, 2010 11:28 PM

Viking are so dumb not picking him up

  38. purplepuzzyeatrz says: Sep 5, 2010 11:33 PM

He is a #2 role player only. He succeeds when the teams #1 is being double and triple covered. He is not a viable #1, plus he has no ability to stretch the field. He is not going to the Vikings, as Favre can make an average receiver look like a stud. Sidney Rice was average til Favre got there. Now everyone is freaking cause he is out.
Watch Camarillo, if he is avail, pick him up in Fantasy, as he will be a stud receiver.

  39. Seattlefan12 says: Sep 5, 2010 11:39 PM

We cut our best reciever that we owed 7 mil. does this message not mean anything to you people? There is something very wrong with him!

  40. smootysmoot says: Sep 5, 2010 11:41 PM

What has ur team won, Douchebag? Nothing, thats right! Ur Receivers r weak.

  41. Robski says: Sep 5, 2010 11:50 PM

  46. mwcarolina says: Sep 6, 2010 12:18 AM

Well if both these teams are wise, they sign TJ soon. BOTH need a go to reciever and both could use his services. Heyward-Bey isnt good and Devin Thomas is VERY close to being a bust while Kelly is as of now, a bust and Moss isnt a go to guy anymore.

  47. rickvaldez says: Sep 6, 2010 12:19 AM

Why would he go to the Raiders? All Campbell does is check-down. You have little Shanahan in Washington that loves to throw the ball…easy choice.

Kind of like when Favre got lit up by the Saints, huh?
be leery Viking fan … he’s one year older, and the Pack is one year better
Oakland and Washington have rings. Minnesota?
    thats what I thought.

  49. nycraider says: Sep 6, 2010 12:26 AM

tj is a must as chaz is unreliable..but Murphy needs to play..he has the potential to be a star..Al needs to get richardson to open up holes for DMAC..if your not a raiderhater then you realize the silver and black is on their way back..

  50. SemperfiSkins says: Sep 6, 2010 12:40 AM

Joey Galloway or TJ Housh? He would be penciled in the #2 slot right away. Then we can cut Roydel Williams. Who? Yep.

  51. Screwston says: Sep 6, 2010 12:43 AM

You heard it here 1st J-E-T-S

  52. AcidSoda says: Sep 6, 2010 1:12 AM

Raiders still need a better o-line. If Campbell is lying flat on his back it doesn’t matter who the receivers are.

  53. City_Native says: Sep 6, 2010 1:36 AM

To all the Redskins & Raiders fans on this post…you are drooling over an overrated wide receiver.
    Think about two things:
    1) Seattle, whose receivers suck, cut him
    2) Your franchises recent track record of signing free agents have been horrendous. If the other 30 teams don’t want him and you two do…that should be a red flag.

  54. kazkal says: Sep 6, 2010 2:01 AM

I been calling for raiders to be this years sleeper,I think TJ would be a good fit because Hue Jackson is now the OC there who was TJ’s WR coach for most of his career.

  57. Chrisl4064 says: Sep 6, 2010 4:26 AM

he’s on my fantasy team. I would much rather him play for the skins than the raiders.

  58. BigMikey says: Sep 6, 2010 5:39 AM

The Panthers need a 2 really badly.

  59. Julius Norman Esiason says: Sep 6, 2010 7:50 AM

All the posters labeling TJ as a malcontent and diva obviously have him confused with Chad. This guy did nothing but bust his but to go from a 7th round draft pick to a Pro Bowler, and leading the league in catches.
Did Seattle overpay a 31 year old possession receiver? Absolutely, but there’s no doubt this guy can still contribute. Hopefully he ends up in DC. With a QB like McNabb he’s got shot to prove all the naysayers wrong yet again.

  60. neblunt says: Sep 6, 2010 8:24 AM

Skins fans….stop getting your panties all wet, TJ would be a mediocre addition at best. If Pete Carroll and the Seahawks didn’t think he was worth it….well, lets just say the phrase another mans trash is another mans treasure does NOT apply here.
Cellar again, even with the Kolb and the flightless eagles, you will still be worse.

  61. Laxer37 says: Sep 6, 2010 8:32 AM

    dabus says:
“The curse of the Terrible Towel strikes again, Lendal White and now Housh”
    You nailed it.
Lendale White and T.J Housh were on top of their games right up until they stepped on a Terrible Towel. After trashing the towel they have both been abondoned by their teams, had a steady decline in production, and had trouble staying healthy.

  62. DeeDubb says: Sep 6, 2010 8:56 AM

Skins desperately need him. When Joey Galloway is your #2, you have issues. Besides, a true possession reciever is exactly what they need.

  63. MagicMan407 says: Sep 6, 2010 9:17 AM

Well, despite the comments saying he would be horrible on the Redskins. Well he would just have to help out Santana Moss on the other side. Stretching the field would be Moss’s job. Catching the ball on slants and getting medium yards Housh and if that doesnt fly you got Cooley and Fred Davis getting yards from tight end. I dont see an issue with signing him at all. He is better than having Joey Galloway and Roydell Williams, Devin Thomas will tear it up in the slot.

  64. Oakfan23 says: Sep 6, 2010 9:23 AM

As a raiderfan i can take him or leave him, doesn’t really matter to me. His veteran presence would be nice but he won’t bring “major” impact. Oakland is on their way back up Haters!! lol

  65. toadsox says: Sep 6, 2010 10:09 AM

Raiders offensive coordinator..hugh Jackson, was Bengals wide receivers coach when Housh had he BEST seasons in Cincy…my be is he signs with the Raiders!!

  66. joshington says: Sep 6, 2010 10:29 AM

Seattlefan12: what it tells me is that pete carrol still isn’t an NFL head coach and he never will be. Enjoy!

  67. lurch's nyquil says: Sep 6, 2010 11:00 AM

Really City Native, it couldnt possibly be that teams are already set and ready to start the season and they dont NEED another WR. What an ass!

  68. mwcarolina says: Sep 6, 2010 11:36 AM

(“To all the Redskins & Raiders fans on this post…you are drooling over an overrated wide receiver”)
agree he is overrated, BUT look at the Redskins recievers, yes, they need him and with two stud tight ends, he will have his catches.
(“TJ would be a mediocre addition at best. If Pete Carroll and the Seahawks didn’t think he was worth it….well, lets just say the phrase another mans trash is another mans treasure does NOT apply here.”)
Carroll cut TJ for one reason, he wanted to get younger and what he thinks is better. Branch staying is a mistake, but Carroll loves Mike Williams and i am a HUGE fan of Golden Tate, cutting TJ was just so they can use more of Williams and Tate.
(“The Panthers need a 2 really badly”)
agree, BUT i doubt the Panthers sign him.
