We noted over the weekend that Giants running back Brandon Jacobs called playing in the NFL “a cutthroat, backstabbing business.”
But that doesn’t mean Jacobs dislikes the business.
Jacobs told Mike Garafolo of the Star-Ledger that he’s got no problem with the Giants.
“I’m happy,” Jacobs said. “People get different things confused through words. That’s not the case. The case is I’m here to win football games and ride it on out with my teammates.”
So what did those comments about “cutthroat, backstabbing” mean? Apparently Jacobs just doesn’t like the fact that he didn’t get a handoff in the final preseason game.
“Those were about the game, the last preseason game, only having four reps,” Jacobs said. “That’s where that whole thing came from. I didn’t have any carries at all, not one. I had a catch. I just wanted a few more snaps to try to get the ball.”
So Jacobs is the rare veteran player who actually wants to see more preseason action. And when he doesn’t get as many preseason carries as he wants, he feels that he’s been stabbed in the back. Sounds like a guy who’s ready for the real games to start.
