Conflicting reports on Tom Brady and “imminent” deal

This morning the Boston Herald and WEEI reported that a deal between the New England Patriots and Tom Brady on a new contract was imminent.

But maybe not. Adam Schefter of ESPN threw 140 characters of cold water on the reports.

“Aware of Brady-contract talk,” Schefter wrote on Twitter. “But two knowledgeable people say reports of deal being in place are ‘inaccurate’ and ‘wrong’. We’ll see.”

The Boston Herald, meanwhile, added to the story on Twitter by saying, “To be clear on Brady’s contract. We are reporting a deal is ‘imminent’ not done. Brady camp has not formally agreed, could come in 24 hours.”

For his part, Patriots coach Bill Belichick waved off a question about a deal with Brady by saying, “I don’t have anything to report on any contracts.”

And so we may have to wait 24 hours to see if the deal that “could come” does come.
