Heisman Trophy Trust says no decision has been made regarding Reggie Bush

Earlier today, Charles Robinson and Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports reported that the Heisman Trophy Trust will eventually conclude that Saints running back Reggie Bush should give up the 2005 version of the award.

But our friends at The Dan Patrick Show have gathered some more information in this regard.  Specifically, Rob Whalen, the Executive Director of the Heisman Trophy Trust tells Paul Pabst, Executive Producer of The Dan Patrick Show, that the Yahoo! Sports report is not accurate.

“Yahoo!
Sports claiming Heisman Trust has reached a decision is completely
false
,” Whalen said. “The Heisman Trophy Trust has made no decision
regarding the Reggie Bush matter.”

That’s fine, but Yahoo! Sports didn’t report that a decision has been reached.  Yahoo! Sports reports that the investigation is “coming to a close” and that the decision, when made, will be that Bush should give up the Heisman.

CFT has some more on the matter, with a report from ESPN’s Chris Fowler.  In our view, the Heisman Trophy Trust is splitting hairs and/or attempting to prevent the perception that anyone within the organization has prejudged the case before the investigation has ended.

That said, if a decision isn’t made and announced within the time frame reported by Yahoo! Sports, then the Yahoo! Sports report will have been wrong.  But even if the Yahoo! Sports report were accurate, our guess is that the Heisman Trophy Trust will delay the process in order to prove that the Yahoo! Sports report wasn’t accurate.

The kid won the Heisman. Get over it. The AP revoted and awarded Cushing the Rookie defensive MVP even after he was cuaght masking HGH. And the NCAA wants the trophy back becasue money. It’s not as if Bush was on roids or something. Rediculous IMO.

They should take his Super Bowl Ring while they’re at it.

heisman trophy: given to best college football player for his performance on the field for that year.
reggie bush: best performer on the field of all college football players in 2005.
the heisman trophy isnt a good-guy of the year award, there have been a plethora of douche bags who have won the award, its a performance based award. What does stripping reggie bush of that do? everyone will remember that bush won it in 2005, and even if its taken away from him, 2005 is a year no one will froget, especially because the national championship game. Reggie bush deserved it then, he deserves it now.
    Go buckeyes.

Are they waiting for the next AARP meeting. What the F?

  6. adellgfo says: Sep 7, 2010 5:55 PM

Look, the kid should keep it. He deserved it, there is no doubt about that. Yes, he broke some rules. But who is really to blame, the young kid who saw an opportunity to help his family, or the “adult” who gave it to him.

  7. TheToolofTools says: Sep 7, 2010 5:59 PM

Bush needs to give it back.
Nice to see Pete Carroll run from the sinking ship like
    a wussy captain.
Now he has his “dream job” (?) in Seattle?
Bush cheated and he knew he was cheating.
He cannot be thrown in jail, but HE MUST be punished.
    He didn’t HAVE to cheat.
    He chose to.
Other then that let’s just go back to the wild west days like when UCLA won all those basketball championships because they were paying players and giving them great places to live.
    Bush needs slapped down.
He needs to be made an example of or else let everyone cheat and just “wink wink”.
USC has so much dirt on it’s hands it needs a damn backhoe.

alpha is right…reggie won that with his play, not his off field actions. he was killing people out there and some of the cuts and moves he made were just amazing.

Cheaters, druggies and cheap shot artists. Looks like the Patriots are no longer the scumbags of the NFL. The Saints now hold the title.

    Who cares?
Does anyone here think “Heisman Trophy” when they think of Reggie Bush?
    1. Average NFL player who is a bust for where he was selected…good punt returner though
    2. Great, dynamic college RB at USC
    3. Kim Kardashian
Those are about the only things I think of when I think of Reggie.
This “trophy trust” sounds like Florio does towards Mike Wise…grinding an axe publicly that no one cares about except them and the other party involved.

  11. MrHumble says: Sep 7, 2010 6:20 PM

Won’t be much “trust” in the Heisman Trophy Trust if they don’t do the obvious.

  12. ZombieRevolution says: Sep 7, 2010 6:24 PM

This is when PFT is at its worst (not just name dropping “But our friends at The Dan Patrick Show…”. There is literally nothing to this story.
Rob Whalen may have read more into the story than was there. And if the award is not taken away by the end of September it turns out that the Robinson and Cole source was wrong.
For PFT this would mean a loss in credibility, because PFT actually “breaks” news of any real nature. It basically repeats what other have done. In the real Non-PFT non-minute world nothing will happen.
Florio needs to step away from the keyboard and get a breath of fresh air and try not to muck rake as often.

you can keep whining all you want on your high horse but it won’t change what everybody saw on the football field that year and that was he was the best player.5 years later and nobody but mr. perfect florio cares.

  14. TryTheVeal says: Sep 7, 2010 6:32 PM

i will believe that Bush won the Heisman when Gregg aka…Grantland Rice wins a pulitzer…..Frauds are frauds

  15. AWestcave says: Sep 7, 2010 6:33 PM

Who even gives a shit? Didn’t get get it, like, 5 years ago? It’s in no way relevant to anything anymore.

So every Black athlete in this country who sleeps with a white girl, is going to be destroyed, is that the new M.O.?
I just want to know when is ANYONE going to stand up to these slimeballs who think it’s
pre-Civil War times? These grown women, like Kim Kardashian & Rachel Uchitel, etc., know who they want.
    This chit needs to cease!

Your headline read … “report: Bush will lose his Heisman, and no one else will get it”
Now you’re saying Yahoo! Sports didn’t report that a decision has been reached. Your headline implied otherwise.
As for the Heisman Trust, what’s left to investigate? The Heisman is awarded for “the outstanding college football player whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence WITH INTEGRITY.”
Either remove the last two words from the mission or take back the Heisman. I don’t care which they do, but they have to do one or other.

  19. Winston Wolfe says: Sep 7, 2010 7:31 PM

How often have you known Charles Robinson to be wrong? Answer: Not Very… Charles has been right on the mark every step of the way since he broke the Reggie Bush story.

  20. Fonetik says: Sep 7, 2010 7:34 PM

He probably was the best college football player in the country that year. That’s not the point. The point is that he WAS NOT ELIGIBLE to play that year because he broke the rules by taking money from agents. It’s that simple. They should take it away, and he will only have himself to blame when they do.

  21. tigerlilac says: Sep 7, 2010 7:35 PM

“He who is without sin cast the first stone.”
Are there any psychologists that read PFT that can explain why so many particpants on these threads like to tear down anyone who is perceived to have violated the rules.
Also wouldyou please explain why average guys and gals so often identify with wealthy ownwers as if they had an equity stake in the team?
What is the specific pschological disorder and why is it so pronounced in football fans that have the shield of annonymity?

  22. Route36West says: Sep 7, 2010 8:16 PM

I think the Heisman Trophy Trust floated the story to yahoo so they could see what the public reaction was before handing down the final ruling. Denying the decision has been made doesnt prove if it will or will not happen. Its just there way to cover there asses.

  23. spyboots says: Sep 7, 2010 8:31 PM

They didn’t strip the Cheatriots’super bowl trophies when they were caught cheating during those years, so Reggie shouldn’t get stripped of his Heisman trophy.

  24. Randall says: Sep 7, 2010 8:33 PM

“Heisman Trophy Trust says no decision has been made”
They’ve made a decision. They’ve decided it’d be super-swell if Mr. Bush would give it back so they don’t have to grow a backbone.

  25. muchmaligned says: Sep 7, 2010 9:03 PM

My favorite part of PFT is when I read 4 posts in the morning and by nightfall each one is “refudiated.”

  26. Deb says: Sep 7, 2010 9:48 PM

    @Sanchize …
Wrong. The Heisman is awarded for:
“the outstanding college football player whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence WITH INTEGRITY.”
The Heisman Trust has two choices:
    1. Remove the last two words from their mission statement and let Bush keep the award for being the best player that year.
    2. Leave the mission statement intact and take back the award.
They can’t have it both ways.
And NONE of this has ANYTHING to do with who the man dates or with the Saints. That is RIDICULOUS.

I think the baseball hall of fame needs to take a page from the Heisman Trust committee’s playbook and start taking out the trash as well!
Reggie…I mean come on man….you didn’t just get paid…you took it to a whole other level x10. You rose the bar of shady recruiting to a never before seen of level. You are the highest paid amauter athelte in college football history, bar none. That being said, the hardware must be returned. Had you not accepted $400,000+ in houses, cars, clothes & ho’s, you could have kept the trophy. You chose to GET PAID, now it’s payBACK time.
