Chris Cook is out, Cedric Griffin could be in for Minnesota

Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield has expressed concern regarding the prospect of facing a Saints offense despite having only three healthy corners.

As it turns out, the Vikings could get a fourth on Thursday night, and it’s the one they least expected to have.

Cedric Griffin, who popped an ACL during the kickoff that launched overtime in the NFC title game at the Superdome, has been listed as questionable.  Rookie Chris Cook, who was expected to start in Griffin’s place, is out with a knee injury of his own.

Other corners are Winfield, Lito Sheppard, and Asher Allen.

Also out for the Vikings is defensive tackle Jimmy Kennedy (knee).  Running back Toby Gerhart (knee) is questionable, and three are probable:  quarterback Brett Favre (ankle), safety Jamarca Sanford (ankle), and center John Sullivan (calf).

For the Saints, linebacker Stanley Arnoux (ankle) and running back Chris Ivory (knee) are out.  Tackle Zach Strief (knee) is questionable.  Six player are probable, including receiver Marques Colston (kidney), tight end Jimmy Graham (ankle), defensive tackle Tony Hargrove (knee), cornerback Tracy Porter (knee), safety Pierson Prioleau (knee), and linebacker Jonathan Vilma (groin).

Hargrove has been listed as probably despite missing practice on Tuesday and Wednesday.

    @rcunningham
Bob Nelson had to stay at his sister’s house because his mother’s basement, which he calls home, is being fumigated for bed bugs. His sister only has dial-up, and he is frustrated that he cannot keep an eye on PFT Vikings news and watch porn at the same time.
JimmySmith has come to the realization that he is a asshole, and has nothing to offer PFT. Therefore, he has decided to piss off for a while. Not to mention the fact that it’s “Kissing Cousins Night” at the Municipal Bar in Elk Mound, Wisconsin. He’s busy!

I hope Cedric plays. We need him. It would be a quite the quick recovery if he does, but all one has to do is look at EJ Henderson and anything is possible.

  14. Hauschild says: Sep 8, 2010 9:30 PM

The Vikings will pick up where they left off last January on defense, continuing to stifle the New Orleans’ passing attack on 3rd downs and will win the game in convincing fashion. You don’t need a dominant secondary when you can can consistently pressure the opposing QB with the front four.

Of course not. They give all of us a bad name. Do you guys like Pervy or Gravy (especially since Gravy is really a Packer troll)?
I’ll take Jimmy over the worst joke of a Green Bay fan on this site though, the one you forgot to mention, Super Suck. That guy singlehandedly disproves all of Darwin’s theories about intelligence and survival of the fittest just by still being alive. Even Bob Nelson is a “genious” compared to him.
Having Griffin back is good news for Viking fans. He’s not great, but he’s better than Sheppard at this point. I still feel this game comes down to whether or not Griffin can recover and show he can still perform at a high level. We’ll find out soon enough.

Normally I like to see the Vikings bye week at or around weeks 7-9. Usually a good spot right in the middle of the season. Some teams are often injured or tired from the 1st half of the season and that’s a good 2 week resting period. The Vikings have their bye week 4. That might almost be perfect for this team. Pretty beat up from the start. To be 2-1 (@ saints, home against dolphins and lions) after 3 games and get that bye might be a good thing.

I hope they don’t play Cedric. Vikes will need him down the stretch, they shouldn’t put him out there til he is 100%. Even if it means a loss.

You talk about ignorant babble then say Brees will throw for 500 yards.
If I recall correctly, the only QB who has done that in recent memory was Ben Roethlisberger.
And he did it against the Packers.
    Thanks for playing.

Wrong. He’s still here. He just is under a new name, posing as a Viking fan, and spewing the most inane garbage possible, intercut with the repetitive mantra of Ted is gay, so as to give the impression that all Viking fans are really that homophobic and stupid.
It’s been working out very well for him too. Not only have most Packers, Bears, and now Saints fans dialed up the hate against the Mighty Purple Part-time Fanbase, many Minnesotans have now actually taken to AGREEING with the deliberately ignorant things he says. It has been pretty funny to watch.

  26. GBfanForever says: Sep 8, 2010 10:06 PM

I think I should restate my last post, I have no real problem with Jimmy Smith or Bob Nelson, they mainly stick to talking football smack and get vikings fans here hilariously riled up. You look at half of the attempts by vikings fans to talk smack and they regress into grade school jabs calling people from wisconsin fat (one of america’s most fit city is madison WI), drunks, rednecks etc etc. It’s beyond sad. If you can’t handle someone pointing out your teams lack of a viable stadium or prospects for one, your teams lack of a championship or the fact that you have a high percentage of fair weather fans, just turn quit reading the comments or turn in your man card.

  27. tradebait9 says: Sep 8, 2010 10:40 PM

GBfanForever…..Congrats on Madison….We’re happy for you!!!!! Now why don’t you guys try and figure out a way to beat the Vikings, or Tampa Bay or Arizona. Yea Yea, we know you won 3 Super Bowls. We’ve heard that all before. But what have you done for Wisconsin lately????

  28. PurplePeopleBeaters says: Sep 8, 2010 11:17 PM

GBfanForever: Vikings fans resort to bashing cities because they know they can’t debate football well.

If your relying on Cedric down the stretch, don’t bet the farm. Secondly, if they lose some games, there won’t be any stretch. The stretch you mean anyway.
That’s right though. Minnesota elected Jessy the body and Al Frankin (alis Froggy) So anything doesn’t surprise me!!!!

Last time I checked we managed a lot better in the playoffs against the pass than the Packers did. With their supposed defensive MVP as well.

  31. shaggytoodle says: Sep 8, 2010 11:54 PM

Well since they paid GM Favre, all that extra cash maybe he should go find someone, or maybe since they paid Coach Favre all that extra cash maybe he can scheme a little better defense to hide the lack of secondary they will have. If all that fails maybe since they paid football player Favre all that extra money maybe he should go out and cover someone. It will probably turn out as good as that block he tried throwing from the wildcat last preseason.

  32. Terrell Blowens says: Sep 9, 2010 1:37 AM

Trust me, as an Eagles fan, I can assure you Lito Sheppard doesn’t really count as a full corner. Once he started chasing the money he sucked. Plus he’s fragile

  33. packerhater28 says: Sep 9, 2010 3:43 AM

One just has to shake their head and wonder how much Bob Nelson and Jimmy Smiths parents where drinking the night that they were concived.Seeing the things they type is not unlike watching chimps play with their young.
If one is able to access any of their posts in say a centry from now, they would think that man kind evolved in the slowest possible way known.
It not hard for one to imagine that Bob Neson and Jimmy Smiths parents were swingers, and that Bob’s mom was Jimmy’s dad’s sister.
It is also quite entertaining to see how the Saint’s fans are so deluted to think that it was because of thier teams play that they won,and not say late and cheap hits perhaps and logic bending penelties?

And what have the Vikes done for Minnesota lately??????? Yes they have won one more game than the pack to take the division. Yes they beat the Pack twice, but in the end did the Pack or Vikes win the NFCC –No. Did the Pack or Vikes win the SB–No. So tell me did the Vikes really do that much more for MN than the Pack did for WI. Except to get Vikes fans hopes up of winning a SB just to be crushed again.

  35. Calistin says: Sep 9, 2010 8:38 AM

Vikings fans have more excuses for losing the NFC championship than they do lakes in the state.
Funny how you all will blame the ref, media, and some Katrina conspiracy, but when another team makes excuses for losing to you, it’s all STFU crybaby, and SKOL VIKINGS, and all that bs.
Hope they don’t flood New Orleans again with all their tears after the Saints steamroll them. Effing babies.

  36. mikemcsaint says: Sep 9, 2010 9:22 AM

To the Viking fans who truly follow this, is there any chance Griffin is actually ready to play? Usually these tears don’t allow much flexibility or lateral movement this soon after repair. Is there any concern he’ll have a bullseye on his back when he’s out there?

  37. Brewdogg says: Sep 9, 2010 10:13 AM

Yeah, I’m more than a little concerned about that. He has less than a week of practice to go on. I imagine if he’s out there at all it will be occasionally as a dime back, and even that is risky. One win isn’t worth losing him for the rest of the season…..

  38. Ilovefoolsball says: Sep 9, 2010 1:28 PM

    X marks the spot! ;)

  39. Brewdogg says: Sep 9, 2010 3:36 PM
