Uche Nwaneri and Jaguars agree to five-year deal

I arrived to a steamy New Orleans tonight, where I expect to write similar posts to the ones I’d write back home, but with a better view and a bigger smile on my face.  (Yes, I’ll refrain from participating in any chant at the game.)

It’s going to be a cool week down here, but I probably won’t have as much fun as Jaguars guard Uche Nwaneri did on Tuesday.  Nwaneri agreed to a deal worth roughly $24 million over five years, including $8-9 million guaranteed, according to Adam Caplan of FOXSports.com.

Nwaneri hasn’t become a big name since getting selected in the fifth round of the 2007 draft, but name recognition is rarely a good measure of an interior lineman.  He can play either guard spot and fits the mauling profile of a lineman that coach Jack Del Rio loves.

UPDATE:  Perhaps Nwaneri is partially being compensated for his scouting skills, given his February 2010 assessment of Tim Tebow.

Nwaneri is a good guard who has earned the contract. And he was spot on about Tebow.

    Nwaneri is average.
If he was on the spot about Tebow, then why was he such an accurate passer in college?
Let me guess “Because he played at Florida.”
Another hater. Keep it coming PFT.
