Uche Nwaneri and Jaguars agree to five-year deal

I arrived to a steamy New Orleans tonight, where I expect to write similar posts to the ones I’d write back home, but with a better view and a bigger smile on my face. (Yes, I’ll refrain from participating in any chant at the game.)

It’s going to be a cool week down here, but I probably won’t have as much fun as Jaguars guard Uche Nwaneri did on Tuesday. Nwaneri agreed to a deal worth roughly $24 million over five years, including $8-9 million guaranteed, according to Adam Caplan of FOXSports.com.

Nwaneri hasn’t become a big name since getting selected in the fifth round of the 2007 draft, but name recognition is rarely a good measure of an interior lineman. He can play either guard spot and fits the mauling profile of a lineman that coach Jack Del Rio loves.

UPDATE: Perhaps Nwaneri is partially being compensated for his scouting skills, given his February 2010 assessment of Tim Tebow.
