Report: Colombo won't play against the Redskins

We told you yesterday that the Cowboys offensive line wasn’t rounding into form as hoped for their Week One Sunday night matchup against the Redskins.

On Thursday, Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas.com confirmed through a source that starting right tackle Marc Colombo will miss practice again Thursday and isn’t expected to be ready for the game.

The team hoped Colombo would be back in time — Jerry Jones said Colombo would need 10-14 days to recover from arthroscopic surgery back on August 16.

This is a situation to watch closely because of Colombo’s history.  It’s easy to forget, but at one point Colombo’s career appeared to be nearly over because of knee injuries.  Colombo missed the entire 2003 season, and then 19 games between 2004-2005 before getting durable again in Dallas.

Colombo also missed seven games last year with a broken leg.

I also hear he has a glass eye. Love him or hate him, Colombo is persistent.

The Skins are going to steal this game and be on their way to 10-6 and respectability baby.

Going to be interesting. In practice against Ware and Spencer, Barron has been good in pass pro. What he doesn’t bring to the table that Colombo does is that nasty, power run blocking.

Well, if he’s really hurt, he’ll have plenty of time to go back to solving crimes.

But Angela Lansbury will… so you know someone’s gonna die.

  6. Grulks says: Sep 9, 2010 11:41 AM

The skins may win, but there is no way in hell they are going 10-6. And they say Dallas fans are delusional…

Barron did not impress in the pre-season.

I fail to see how Dallas is everyone’s chic pick to win the Super Bowl – They have a make-shift offensive line and little to no depth there. Offensive line play is integral to successful NFL teams. Just ask the Saints.
Kind of related: I am getting sick of seeing the Packers predicted to do big things this season, I would feel much more comfortable if we were flying under the radar.

The Red-Headed Step Child (Jason Garrett) better make the proper adjustments: more bootlegs for Tony, 3-step quick slants and bubble-screens, basically anything quick and decisive. I don’t see Tony having time to wait on receivers getting down the field. Our three best run-after-catch guys are Miles, Dez, and Felix…..they better get them the ball early and often, along with a heavy dose of our three-headed monster at tailback. Make the needed adjustments Garrett or your ass is on the way out of town. This team is too talented to lose to the Skins and heads may begin to roll if we do.

Gregjennings85- Don;t you see it, every August the Cowboys are predicted to go all the way!! EVERY YEAR!!!
As far as your Packers, if you get a middlin’ amount of defense, you’re on your way…But golly last year in the playoffs was ridiculous!! Just keep opponents under 30 and you’re going 13-3…..can ya at least do that?

Good thing the Cowboys are playing the weak ass Redskins. They should still win easily even with their OL in turmoil.”
Haha coming from a Raider fan?? Get off JohnMaddenfootball10 and remember this is real life where the Raiders went 5-11 and they still got whooped 34-13 against them “weak ass Redskins”. Atleast the Redskins kept most games fairly close even having probowlers injured. Your an idiot.

I didn’t realize it was glass. I thought it wandered around because it liked looking at things from different angles.

Gregjennings85 I think the cowboys are favored more cuz the superbowl is there, if colombo and kosier come back soon they’ll be a real contender.

wheres boysTroll at? shouldnt he be here blabbering and LMAOing?
truth is a missing colombo does in fact hurt the cowbums OL but it isnt going to be the end for them. romo can scramble, he can throw on the run and he has done it before.
but that is going to make it interesting for our game planning and how much we blitz.

Really raiderrob21!?! Our supposed weak ass Redskins destroyed your pitiful Raiders last year with Jason Campbell. Yeah… Jason Campbell and our poor OL!!! Just FYI, our OL has been rebuilt and will in noway resemble how it was last year.

It seems like 3/4 of the league is havin O line problems. Colts, Cowgirls, Deadskins, Eagles and on and on and on.

@magicman – We don’t talk or pay attention to what raiderrob21 has to say.. all he does is go to other teams threads and say how bad those teams are but the funny thing is that the raiders have been the worst team of the decade, believe or not, worse than the lions.

Worry?, it’s only the Redskins!, McNabb’s on One Ankle and Rookie Trent Williams has to go up against D Ware, Sorry, it’s a another long day for the Skins. Oh, and I forgot how funny it will be for Hall to try and cover Austin.

im a little nervous your offense is only as good as the the o line.laot flo adams now colombo is out alex barron sucks and doug free is so so,we should still have enough to beat the skins

  29. Hap says: Sep 9, 2010 1:13 PM

The Skins are gonna steal this game, Cleg? I admit, they are due. They will have to steal it.
How quickly The Mental Midgets 9a.k.a.Skins Fans” forget that their o-line ios a dumpster fire, and their lockler room is a mess, too.
I guess there is that “fleet of foot” McNabb.Not. He’ll need to be.

  30. aligreene says: Sep 9, 2010 1:21 PM

i blame jerry jones,he should of kept adams ,free ,if he did we wouldnt be having this conversation, good lineman are hard to fine, most important position on offense

  32. Opie says: Sep 9, 2010 1:57 PM

I brought this up months ago re: lack of depth along the ‘boys Oline. Where’s Chap today?
One injury is too much for this group, let alone 2 and having to start Barron.
This game is going to end in a tie. 10-10…..wait, someone better let DNabb know that games can end in a tie….or did they change that rule?!?
Actually, how many times has both defenses outscored both offenses in a game?
17-14 ‘boys and zero offensive TD’s. Leading to “schisms” on the ‘boys offense.
Hell, they already cut Crayton (called that one too) and they have 3 RB’s who deserve the ball, but now no one to block for them?
Gonna be an ugly game……I hope it rains

  33. tiger2471 says: Sep 9, 2010 2:38 PM

Cowgirl fans are funny, hell Jason Campbell beat you bums 3 times and you think with the addition of McNabb we’re going to lose? Get real, you have a major problem with your offensive line and you’re resting your hopes on Dez Bryant. You clowns are going to be watching the Superbowl in your own stadium this year, now that SUCKS!

  34. Grulks says: Sep 9, 2010 3:28 PM

    Opie:
    1) lack of depth along the ‘boys Oline.
Well, they do have a lot of players that can man mor than one position. But I agree, there isn’t enough depth. one injury a team can handle, multiple injuries to the O-line, no way. Dallas, if they were smart, would find a way to pry McNeil away form San Diego.
    2)They cut Crayton.
Actually they traded him. It amounts to the same thing, since the draft pick wont help the team this year, but they did get value for him.
    3) 3 RB’s
True. I think Dallas’ season rests on how well the Oline plays/stays healthy, and if Felix Jones can stay healthy. If those two things happen, Dallas coudl have a really nice season. Unfortunately, I don’t see both of those actually happening.

  35. Opie says: Sep 9, 2010 6:26 PM

@ Grulks: I meant traded, but you’re right it’s just about the same thing.
A lot to ask to have the Oline rebound healthy “and” Jones to stay healthy….
