Tomlin had already said that he wasn’t going to announce his starter at QB. He only did so because Ed & Gerry Dulac had already reported it in PG+ and then later in the Post-Gazette.
It actually surprised me when Ed did, because earlier this offseason he pointed out in one of his columns that it was considered a no-no to report for example that the team had practiced the screen pass all week or anything along those lines. He also was aware that Tomlin had decided against publicly naming his starter before the game.

The Steelers rarely if ever sign high-priced free agents because they build from within and won’t let some primadona come in an upset the apple cart. Before you retort by calling them cheap, let the record show that their way of thinking works better than the other way … Just ask the Redskins and (after this year) the Jets.
As for big name free agents leaving Pittsburgh, dude … the Steelers keep the ones who still have lots left in the tank. About the only one they let get away too soon was Rod Woodson. Like I said before, whether it is league free agents or their own, their record is pretty damn good.

Considering the NFL started in the 1920s, most people don’t really care about what’s happened only since 1970. Of course, if you’re a Steeler fan, you have no choice but to pretend that’s when history began. That way, you can kind of brush over the fact that the franchise was a horrible joke for the first 40 years of it’s existence. Sorry dude, the rest of us look back at the whole game- not just what’s happened since the merger. When you look back at the history of football, you start finding teams that have won “the big game” more times than the Steelers, like the Packers (12 titles) and even the lowly Browns (10 titles)…. and of course, that means the Stellers are not truly “number 1″ for anything, unless you’re handing out a prize for “Longest Stretch of Total Suckitutde”.

Well correct me if i’m wrong, but I would think that the franchise with the most championships has a history of finding good coaches, players, and winning. So therefore that franchise would be better than the rest. If I were a rookie or free agent I’d want to play for the Steelers cause they have the best resume for success.
Help us with when was the last time a big name free agent went to pittsburgh?? Typically the big name free agents leave pittsburgh….. I’m just saying…
You all cannot have it both ways…..although I am sure you will all come up with tons of reasons why you can…the largest bunch of dumb asses among fans in the NFL….

Why are the Steelers irrationally fearfull of the media reporting who the qb is this week? It isn’t even news. It is a fact. It will be news in a few weeks from now if BR is available to play and Dixon is the qb running the 1st squad but right now it really isn’t news.

That is what I would expect someone to say that is jealous and frustrated. If you honestly don’t think that having won over 13% of ALL the Super Bowls is a major historical accomplishment that if the Ravens did it you would be proud of and would refer to it, then you are a liar and not really a serious football fan, sorry. Hopefully all the reporters will just chill out regarding Dennis Dixon. He’s taking over for a few games for a team that played terrible during the stretch last year, and that is introducing multiple rookies and new faces into their offensive first team unit, their short-yardage sets, and their three- four- and five-receiver sets.
Let the young guy play a little without all the over-the-top scrutiny. It’s not as if Ben would have gone 4-0 if he had not been suspended – he certainly didn’t show that last year. This is a team with a lot of roster turnover, that’s going to take awhile to gel.

I’m really starting to hate the Steelers. Seriously. Did you read that entire “media policy”? Who the hell do these arrogant fools think they are?
And how ungracious of them to criticize their official team mouthpiece, Ed Bouchette, after he so helpfully did their dirty work for them the other day.
And to any Steeler apologist who is going to scream “every team does this!”:
Prove it. If every team has a media manifesto like this in print, you should easily be able to dig up at least one with a little research. If you can’t, then keep your mouth shut.
