The man who was ticketed for running a red light in the car crash that involved Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has a terrible driving record and has already, at age 21, had his license suspended multiple times.
But the man’s family is complaining about a lack of sympathy from the public, and asking why people only seemed to care if Brady was OK.
The Boston Herald reports that Ludgero Rodrigues, the driver of the minivan that collided with Brady’s Audi, has had violations for everything from speeding to driving with a child not properly strapped in to refusing to take a Breathalyzer after an accident to driving with “improper equipment” to driving with a suspended license.
Police say Brady had a green light when his car ran into Rodrigues’ minivan as it drove through a red light. Rodrigues was ticketed.
But at least one member of Rodrigues’ family says she’s upset that no one seems to be showing any sympathy to Rodrigues’ father, who was a passenger in the minivan and was injured in the crash.
“Why? Because we’re poor, we don’t have money, because Tom Brady is famous,” Rodrigues’ aunt told the Boston Globe.
Obviously, she’s right to the extent that Tom Brady’s fame is the only reason any of us knows about this accident. But according to the police, the only reason the accident happened is that a man with a long history of bad driving drove badly again. Brady was the innocent victim in this crash, and it’s only natural that our sympathies would lie with him.
